The Premier League's lethal new strike partnerships.
...should make for a thrilling season.
By Stan Collymore (mirrorfootball).
As a player I enjoyed prolific strike partnerships with both Bryan Roy at Nottingham Forest and Robbie Fowler at Liverpool.
Having a trusted fellow forward gives any striker more confidence and should help a team be successful.
So it is good to see this season a real renaissance in potentially lethal partnerships upfront.
Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe have joined forces again at Tottenham following their previous spell together at Portsmouth under Harry Redknapp.
While Sunderland’s Darren Bent and Kenwyne Jones will test any defence with their pace and power.
Then you have Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney at Manchester United who could well end up being paired with each other for England at the World Cup if they gel.
The arrival of Roque Santa Cruz and Emmanuel Adebayor at Manchester City suggest the Citizens are more interested in scoring goals than keeping it tight at the back.
So hopefully it should be an exciting season again in the Premier League.
I just hope Didier Drogba and Fernando Torres, both of whom are regularly used upfront on their own for Chelsea and Liverpool respectively, are eventually given the chance to play consistently with a strike partner too.
Then it really could be one heck of a season.
