TV Schedule

Saturday:

10:00am-Setanta USA
10:00am-FSC and Sportsmax
12:30- FSC and Sportsmax

Sunday:
8:30am- Setanta USA
11:00am- FSC and Sportsmax

Monday:
3pm- ESPN 2

Tuesday
3pm- Setanta USA

Wednesday
3pm- Setanta USA

We understand that ESPN and Fox Soccer Channel are still feverishly working on concluding the contract so that the early Saturday morning and Monday afternoon ET Premier League games will be available on ESPN2. However, no agreement has been completed as of writing, and we’re now less than 24 hours away from the kickoff of the 2009/2010 Premier League season.

We’re still very hopeful that an agreement can be made in time, so that ESPN2 can carry the game, but the closer it gets to the kickoff time without the paperwork signed, the more nervous soccer fans become. There is the possibility that Fox Soccer Channel would still show the game either on television or online at FoxSoccer.tv since they still technically own the rights (until the agreement for sub-licensing the broadcasting of the game to ESPN is concluded).

Of course, this game takes on even more importance for most Americans because it may feature the debut of Jozy Altidore up front for Hull City.

But if Fox Soccer Channel and ESPN are unable to conclude an agreement in time and if Fox decides not to show the game on television or online, here’s our guide of five ways you can either watch or listen to the opening game of the Premier League season between Chelsea and Hull City:

1. Sirius Satellite. The Chelsea against Hull City match will be available to all Sirius radio customers on channel 125. If you’re not a Sirius Satellite Radio customer, they do offer a free trial of their product online, but unfortunately channel 125 isn’t one of the stations available.

2. Hull City Player. You can subscribe to Hull City’s audio commentary of the game from its website for as little as £3.99. ‘Player’ was formerly known as ‘World’ and now works on both a Mac and PC. Chelsea FC may have their own commentary available, but you’ll have to check back here. Right now, it still says ‘Coming Soon.’

3. BBC London 94.9. BBC’s local London radio station streams live on the Internet and often features live commentary from matches as well as match reports from around the grounds. There’s no guarantee they’ll be broadcasting the Chelsea match (they always broadcast from a match featuring a team from London; the times when I’ve listened, it’s been either Tottenham Hotspur or Crystal Palace). Plus, their sports program doesn’t begin until 9am ET, but at least you may be able to catch the second half of the game from its stream.

4. Justin.tv. We hate to recommend this one because any streaming video of the match online would be illegal, but unless Fox or ESPN show the game, this will be one of the few sources where football fans can watch the game online.

5. Ustream. Similar to Justin.tv, Ustream will carry streaming video of the
match. Note however that Ustream videos are illegal. We hate to recommend illegal avenues, but if that’s the only way we can be able to watch the match live, what else are football supporters supposed to do?

boy i was suprised this morning, scrolling channels while waiting for the games on FSC and Setanta to start and I catch the 2nd half of the Chelsea game on ESPN2..but me didn't see them advertise that atall previously
if ESPN having the games they better do a better job of promoting the games
as for Setanta is it even worth having it?..i paying $15 a month but I might cancel once Tri-nations rugby done

Nah man keep it, I was thinking the same thing, but dey will be carrying Carling Cup, some FA cup matches, World Cup qualifiers, plus they will be replayin those 7:35am matches. Still has some EPL plus Champions League matches.Fox just showing the matches that ESPN use to show.  I still don't trust f^ckin ESPn especially when the college season starts for football and basketball, not tuh mention log rolling. Setanta is still worth keeping.

E.P.L. on ESPN in the U.S. — Starting This Weekend

By Jack Bell

ESPN will carry 48 live matches from the English Premier League on Saturday and Monday in the United States, the cable network announced Friday night. It was the eve of the 2009-10 E.P.L. season.

The first game will be Saturday’s opener between Chelsea and Hull City from Stamford Bridge in London at 7:40 a.m. Eastern. Chelsea will be playing its first match under its new manager, Carlo Ancelotti, and the American Jozy Altidore has just joined Hull City on a season-long loan from Villarreal in Spain. But then late Friday night, in a posting on Twitter, Altidore said work still needed to be done on his British work visa and that he was still in the United States.

“The Barclays Premier League is one of the crown jewels of professional sports throughout the world,” Scott Guglielmino, vice president for programming at ESPN, said in a statement. “We’re pleased to work with Fox Sports International to bring some of the league’s marquee matchups to ESPN2 in our continued efforts to serve soccer fans in the United States.”

ESPN will also show 12 Monday games that kick off in the afternoon Eastern in addition to either 7:45 a.m. or 10 a.m. matches.

The network announced this schedule (all games on ESPN2):

Sat., 7:40 a.m. Chelsea vs. Hull City
Sat., Aug. 22, 9:55 a.m., Wigan Athletic vs. Manchester United
Mon., Aug. 24, 2:55 p.m. , Liverpool vs. Aston Villa
Sat., Aug. 29, 7:40 a.m., Chelsea vs. Burnley
Sat., Sept. 12, 9:55 a.m., Liverpool vs. Burnley
Sat., Sept. 1, 7:40 a.m, Burnley vs. Sunderland
Sat., Sept. 26, 7:40 a.m., Portsmouth vs. Everton
Mon., Sept. 28, 2:55 p.m., Manchester City vs. West Ham

So far, no word if the matches will be shown in high-definition. (Update: An ESPN representative, in a response via e-mail, said some games would be in standard definition. A commenter Saturday morning said the Chelsea-Hull City match was indeed in HD.)

The ESPN family of networks has a large inventory of soccer properties, but recently lost the UEFA Champions League games to Fox Soccer Channel. It will still carry the men’s and women’s World Cups through 2014; Major League Soccer; Confederations Cup and other FIFA tournaments; and a number of other European Leagues.

The recent collapse of the Setanta network in Britain enabled ESPN to pick up its package of E.P.L. games over there. Setanta’s North American operation remains in business and owns the rights to some E.P.L. games, which it shows on its premium cable channel and its Web site (for subscribers).

I know one should be grateful that ESPN showing some of these games but damn dey  have tuh hustle off the air so? Get home late for the Liverstool v Villa game waiting tuh see the goals or even hear some commentary from the studio-ESPN cut tuh commercial. Then dey start they NASCAR show about 5 minutes early! Steups dey couldn't take dat 5 minutes to show some highlights? Dat is why I doh trust dem! I still feel all the American sports will still take precedence over football and providin quality live coverage.
