Hyland, Gay join U20 camp in Turkey

Hyland, Gay join U-20 camp in Turkey.
T&T Express Reports.

European-based players Khaleem Hyland and Jamal Gay have joined the Trinidad and Tobago Under-20 team in Turkey as they continue preparations for this month's FIFA U-20 World Championship in Egypt.

Gay and Hyland arrived at the T&T camp yesterday and head coach Zoran Vranes said he was keen to have them work with the rest of the squad.

"These two players are welcomed and I look forward to them being part of our team. A lot is expected from them based on their experience," Vranes told Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation media officer Shaun Fuentes.

Commenting on Wednesday's 2-1 victory over United Arab Emirates through goals by Sean De Silva and Qian Grosvenor, Vranes added: "It was a very good win for us. It was good for the confidence of the players because we lost to them before in Dubai. I hope we can go on from here and build on the victory.

"I am excited to be part  of history. We will be the first Trinidad and Tobago team to win at the World Cup level," said Gay.

Meanwhile, However, England born utility player Jake Thomson of Southampton FC is not expected to join up with the squad until September 10.

Cheryl Abrams, Laison Officer for the T&T team said that T&T camp is still trying to get an early release for Thomson so he can have a better opportunity to gel with the team.

Looking for big things from Hyland especially.  He has shown the ability to play at the senior level.  Hope he steps up to the plate Big Time.

I like Gay's confidence!!! Would be nice to celebrate a VICTORY for T&T AT a World Cup Finals in truth! The draw with Sweden is our ONLY point to date.

As for Thomson, he will have very little time to gel with the team, BUT seeing as how he's a "Utility Player" that means he can slot in wherever the coaching staff feels he can best contribute to the team... kinda like Anthony Rougier - wh played Last stopper,right-back left-back, right-wing, Defensive Midfieder, Cental midfielder and striker.... practically every position except in goal :)

the safest bet would be to replace our weakest defender with jake, that would help us bc he is a utility player

I'm wondering who would get dropped between Paul and Da Silva for Hyland. Or is their partnership that strong that Hyland have to hold down a wing or somethng?

I think most times our U-20 team play 3-5-2...meaning 3 in central midfield...so maybe Moleno will be replaced by Hyland..leaving Hyland, De Silva and Paul in the middle..

Sando they touring with at least 9 defenders and with 4 forwards including Gay. They might drop about 3 defenders, a midfielder and one of the forwards.

The Paul-DeSilva partnership is too productive to break for Hyland/Thompson. But with Gay in the team Vranes might resort to a 4-5-1, and use Hyland/Thompson/Cyrus as holding mids and let Paul Molino and DeSilva run wild in the upper middle to link Gay upfront.

The attacking mids have been scoring as many if not more goals than the forwards, so IMO no need for 2 forwards

Thomson mostly plays at right back/right wing. So he likely isn't challenging for a spot in the middle.

OK  :beermug: I thought he was defensive mid sometime used as a right back. A good right wing with defensive capability will be very useful to us, similar to Aaron Maund on the left at last world cup. I think we'll see Hyland Paul and DeSilva in the middle, Thompson on the right and maybe Grovsnor on the left. Gay in front. Not bad.

Cyrus as a sub for Hyland or left back/wing, Molino subbing for DeSilva or Paul.
