Not sure why people thought that Mexico was out of it in the first place. Even the likes of Brazil go through a bad spell every now and then. Yes, Mexico lost a couple games in teh semi-finals, and lost to El Salvadore the other day, but football has changed, the gap has closed somewhat. Look at what the USA did to Spain.

If tomights results hold (Mex currently leading CRC 3-0), the honduras will be sitting atop the tables, and Costa Rica will be sitting in the 4th spot. Mexico suddenly looking to lay claim to one of the automatic spots.

Just thinkin, if Mexico win, then the top 4 in CONCACAF almost guaranteed to stay in the top 4 till the end.

T&T and El Sal are too far behind to change that.

Mexico is the team best equipped to rob a South American team of a qualifying spot.

T&T and El Sal are too far behind to change that.

It will boil down to who will finish 4th to playoff with the CONMEBOL team, which right about now could very well end up being Argentina. From a pure football perspective, Mexico would probably have the best chnace of all the other three to beat Argentina over two legs.

Regarding the bottom two, cant say Im surprised. I had selected these two teams to end up in the cellar positions from before a ball was kicked in the Hex. El Salvador put in a decent shift today vs USA, that added to their victory over Mexico and narrow defeats to date gives them the edge in the race to avoid finishing in the cellar.  There must be better defenders in the T&T leagues than Marvin Andrews. He's way past his best. Hard to imagine that not a single member of the under-20 team is good enough for the senior team.
