Club management not for Roy Keane - Dwight Yorke

Club management not for Roy Keane - Dwight Yorke
insideworldsoccer.com

Dwight Yorke believes that club management is not suited for his ex-Manchester United teammate Roy Keane due to his temperament.

Keane, who walked out on Sunderland last December, is now under pressure as boss of Championship side Ipswich Town.

The Tractor Boys are contemplating their worst start to the season for 45 years and bookies have slashed their odds of the Irishman leaving Portman Road before Christmas.

"By now I was convinced that club management was not for Keano," said Yorke in his new autobiography Born to Score.

"I don't think the 24/7 care of a club manager is suited to his temperament. I don't think he can deal with everything that lands in the tray of a club man.

"But his standing in the game is such that he could still take a group of players and get a positive reaction from them for a couple of games - and then march off and walk his dogs for a month or two.

"I think he is an impact manager, which is why I believe he could be ideal for the international stage."

I could see it now

Ah wonder how much Text messages Dwight get from Keane already for these comments.

If he wish the man well after he leave Sunderland and he tell him F**k Off ah wonder if he go hunt Dwight down to break he leg. Aint like Keane ent capable ah that  :-\

Maybe but how much is the TTFF going to pay him as assistant.

Better he takes the opportunity now to promote his book and at least ensure he has some decent money coming in before getting stuck into his new role as assistant manager to Latas.

Dwight get asked some hard questions there.....but he look for dat

However, I find all the questions had a slant where they were being asked in a way that would verify the prevailing stereotype of the black male.

....."so u were not faithful"
....."your dad was not necessarily a good role model"

..... etc, etc

You think she would ask Beckham dem questions?

Question time: Dwight Yorke
« Reply #43 on: October 14, 2009, 05:19:41 PM »
Question time: Dwight Yorke
By: Hannah Pool (UK Guardian).

Dwight Yorke on dealing with fame, upsetting Alex Ferguson – and his bitter feud with Jordan

You describe your beginnings in Tobago as humble. Your mother was a cleaner and your father a binman who was, at times, full of rage and violence. Has he ever apologised for hitting you?

No, never. My dad's cool now, he's a bit older and more mellow, his rage is not as vicious as it used to be. In those days it was traditional to get a beating. Not so today, and maybe that's why kids aren't as disciplined as they used to be. I'm not saying beating is the right way to go about it, but it certainly put me into my place. I still love my dad and appreciate what he's done for me, but I despise some of the things he has done to the family and certainly to my mum.

You came to Aston Villa from Tobago while still a teenager. That must have been a shock.

I used to play football on the streets, kicking breadfruits or oranges. This was like a dream.

A year later Ron Atkinson became Villa's manager. You describe him as "a raging bull".

I found his style of management difficult, I didn't understand it. It was a bad time in my career, it looked like I wasn't going to make it. But I stuck with it, and Ron stuck with me, and I'm grateful to him for that.

Were you surprised by his racist outburst [on ITV] in 2004?

Yes, it took us all by surprise – he was the first British manager to have any black players in his team. But as much as I would like to say he's been good to me, I can't condone what he said; I've got to be truthful to myself and not try to protect him.

Did he use language like that when you played for him?

Looking back, yeah, maybe he did, but I never thought anything of it because I had a vision, I knew where I wanted to go – so little remarks here or there wouldn't faze me. He might have done things in the past that maybe were a little bit out of order, but it didn't bother me because I knew I wanted something bigger – so I wasn't going to upset the boss.

At the height of your career, what was the most you were paid?

I was on 23 grand a week in 1998, that was phenomenal. And before I signed to Manchester United, there was a £27-28,000 a week offer on the table from Aston Villa.

Were you worth it?

I like to think so. I came here wanting to play football but also to help my family back home. When you convert that money into Trinidad and Tobago dollars, you feel like a millionaire. I've spent it all now, though.

Moving to Man United in 1998, you encountered Alex Ferguson and his "whiplash tongue" . . .

My first three years at United were pretty much flawless. In the first we won the treble and I finished top scorer: I was walking on cloud nine. I came back the next year and scored 26 goals. But in the third year I took my eye off the football, things were happening off the pitch – everywhere I went the media was talking about me, and no one had taught me how to deal with those things. It took me a while to realise I'd done some wrong, and by the time I tried to change it around it was too late. Sir Alex Ferguson is quite intimidating; he can make your life very difficult.

Did your lifestyle and reputation off the pitch ruin your career?

I wouldn't say it ruined my career. People have seen me party and having a good time with beautiful women, I'm not disputing that, but I don't think anybody out there has a better work ethic than me. I'm full-on with everything I do: if I party, I party; if I train, I train hard.

In your book you ask: "Making love and scoring a couple of goals; is there a better way to spend your time on the planet?" . . .

Did I actually say that? But yes, when you're a footballer that's the ultimate thing: if you play a fantastic game, score a couple of goals and then go home and make love to a beautiful woman, what more can a man ask for?

The first dedication in your book, to Harvey [the son he has with Jordan], reads: "So he may know the truth." What do you mean by that?

I've tried in the past to get to know my son. But his mum has made my life hell for a long period of time with some of the allegations she's made against me. My advisers and legal team tried so many times to make it work, yet this woman constantly tarnished my name out there, [saying] I'm a bad person, that I'm not caring. So I wanted to let Harvey know that I'm always here for him.

Do you think you've been a good dad?

I'd like to think so. I'm not saying I haven't made mistakes along the way, but I can say that I genuinely make an effort. And yet it was made to sound like I was never there.

When did you last see Harvey?

I haven't seen him for nearly nine months.

Do you feel guilty about not seeing more of him?

Yes, of course. I'd love to have an input in his upbringing, I'd love him to know the other side of his family, but it wasn't allowed. I can take some blame for not being able to contribute a little bit more, but not all of the blame.

Jordan has recently said that she was raped. Did she confide to you about it?

That's news to me. I know nothing about it.

Is there still a lot of bad feeling between you and Jordan?

Yes – but it didn't stem from me. I've defended her to my friends, I've tried to be as nice as possible, but over the years you can only take so much pounding. If I saw her on the street now, I'd walk straight past her. I don't want to say it because she's the mother of my child, but she is constantly making me feel like I'm such a bad person; she's got this bitterness towards me.

Aston Villa star Stan Collymore talked the talk but didn't deliver - Dwight Yorke
Sunday Mercury

DWIGHT Yorke made many close friends in football and only failed to get on with one player – Stan Collymore.

Villa manager Brian Little signed the Cannock-born striker from Liverpool in 1997 for a club record £7 million fee.

But ‘Stan The Man’ went on to score just seven league goals in 46 appearances – a poor return which Yorke put down to a bad attitude.

“I never had any issues with my team-mates throughout my Villa days, save for one,” he said.

“Stan Collymore disappointed me, I’m afraid.

‘‘He certainly had talent, no-one could deny that, but there were rumours that he could be a bit moody.

‘‘Stan’s arrival brought an unsettling tension to the team. He had left Liverpool, undoubtedly a bigger club, and to me gave the impression that he could swan into Villa and just take over the place.

“We saw someone who was basing his authority at the club and inside the dressing room on reputation alone. And that’s how it stayed.

“We never saw Stan deliver anything on the pitch with any consistency that warranted his big attitude around the place.

“He talked a great game which he rarely, if ever, delivered and to me that simply wasn’t acceptable.”

When Collymore signed, Yorke had just finished as the club’s top scorer for the second year running.

But the formidable partnership that Little had hoped for never materialised and the Cannock striker, who has suffered with depression, eventually left the club for Leicester in 2000.

Yorke said: ‘‘Stan was troubled at the time and had his own issues. And who knows if that contributed to what seemed to me like a bad attitude. But I found it hard to bear.’’

T&T football star Dwight Yorke officially launched his autobiography Born to Score at a news conference at the National Library on Abercromby Street, Port-of-Spain, on Thursday. The book chronicles Yorke’s life from growing up in a family of nine in rural Tobago, coming through the ranks of local football as a youngster; being drafted by Aston Villa at age 17; helping Manchester United win a Treble in 1999 and leading T&T to its first World Cup appearance in Germany in 2006.

He speaks candidly also of his much-discussed personal life beginning with his sexual contact with an older woman on a beach at age 12; fathering a son with the English glamour model Katie ‘Jordan’ Price and about a rocky relationship with Naomi Smith, mother of his second son. “It’s a real insight into my life and 22 years as a professional footballer,” he told the gathering. “There’s some of the good things, some of the bad things and some of the loneliness. “It’s been a real tough ride. I’ve learned to understand a little bit about life and the discipline, dedication and self belief that it takes. I could have easily been one of the many talented sportsmen that slipped by the wayside but I was always determined to make something of myself.”

Yorke says his lifestyle may have negatively affected his career and he touched on that aspect in his presentation. “The glamour side of mansions and cars can be great but the real reward is being recognised for what you have accomplished.” “I know my life has not always been a perfect scenario but we all make mistakes. I’ve learnt from them and moved on as an individual to become a better person.” He also writes that Russell Latapy is a better footballer than he and acknowledges that Brian Lara’s achievements outweigh his own. In the book review, Dr Barry Ishmael applauds the 38-year-old for writing an honest, intriguing and often inspiring account of his life and career.

“The very human side of a star is revealed and the reader is left to weigh the pros and cons of stardom and to ponder how greatness, wealth and popularity are to be best managed,” he said. “By the end there is little doubt that “Yorkie” is easy-going, fun-loving and bears no malice towards anyone. “At heart, this is a motivational story, not of perfect man, but of a man constantly striving for professional perfection. He is a flamboyant, talented and controversial individual and an elite athlete by any standard of any sport.” Yorke will be signing copies of his book at the following locations today: Trincity Mall, Trincity, 11 am-12 pm; West Mall, Westmoorings, 12.30 pm-1.15 pm; Long Circular Mall, St James, 1.30 pm-2.30 pm. Yorke would like to advise the public that he would be doing just one signing session today at Long Circular Mall from 10 am to 11 am.

No signin in West Mall he and Lara going and meet d Queen
