North Zone Round 2 - Matchday 1 Roundup

Tigers go top of North: Trinity 0 - 3 St Anthony's

St Anthony's College went to the top of the North Zone after an assured 3-0 victory against cellar placed Trinity College at Trinity Grounds.

Reshard Allen, Shaquielle Rogers and Ajani Clarence scored for the visitors, who would have scored more goals had it not been for an inspired performance by the Trinity goalkeeper who kept the scoreline  respectable with a string of good saves.

St Anthony's now sit on top with 15 points while Trinity college remain rooted to the bottom of the table with only Woodbrook in their sight.

QRC fighting for top spot: QRC 2 - 0 Fatima

Akil Morris scored a double to keep QRC in the hunt for the North Zone title as they defeated Fatima College by 2-0 at QRC Grounds on Saturday.

QRC sit level on points with league leaders St Anthony's College, but trail on goal difference.

Fatima College slump to 5th position in the North Zone with 12 points after being the early leaders up to Matchday 4.

Fatima are still in with a shot since they only trail the leaders by 3 points, but need to get their 2009 campaign back on track as they have lost their last three matches.

'Compre' keep pressure on leaders: Woodbrook 0 - 1 Mucurapo

Defending champions East Mucurapo Secondary kept themselves in the title race after a slim 1-0 victory over Woodbrook.

Johan Peltier scored the game's only goal from the penalty spot to ensure his team got three much needed points which kept their title defense alive.

Mucurapo draw level on points with 3rd place St Mary's with both teams having 13 points, but trail due to goal difference.

Woodbrook remain in 6th spot with 1 point ahead of Trinity College on goal difference.

Mucurapo and QRC clash on Wednesday 30th September at Fatima Grounds in a crucial encounter for both teams.

The 'Saints' face arch rivals Fatima College at CIC Grounds in another must win encounter for both teams also on the 30th.

The third fixture see's an all out relegation battle as Trinity travel to the St. James Barracks where Woodbrook awaits.

South Zone Round 2 - Matchday 1 Round Up.

'Pres' San Fernando hand 'Naps' first defeat of season: Naparima 0 - 2 Presentation

Presentation College San Fernando defeated their bitter rivals Naparima College on Saturday 2-0 after a tense encounter at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium.

The result pulls Presentation level on 14 points with Naparima at the top of the South Zone table, but they still trail the defending champions on goal difference.

Naprima's talismanic attacker, Shahdon Winchester, had a quiet match by his normally high standards as the Presentation defenders certainly did their homework and ensured Winchester had very little influence in the game.

The opening period was largely dominated by a battle in midfield as the two teams were quite evenly matched and gave very little ground to the opposing team. Clear cut goal scoring chances were few and far between.

Things livened up a bit near the end of the first half, when Winchester should have given his team the lead after a mixup in the Presentation defense led to a Pres keeper, Terrence Ramsaroop failing to hang on to a routine defensive header back to him.

The ball fell to none other than Shahdon Winchester but he uncharacteristically blasted his effort overbar.

Less than one minute after, Presentation took the lead through Tristan Khan after he broke into the penalty spot on the right and hit a low, blistering drive toward the far post past the diving Naparima keeper, O'Shea Noel.

At the half, the score remained 1-0 in favor of 'Pres'.

After the break as expected it was Naparima pressing forward in search of an equalizer. They forced a number of corners and dangerous freekicks around the Presentation penalty box but failed to truly threaten the goal on the set pieces.

The missed opportunities would come back to haunt them when suddenly at the other end it was Presentation going 2-0 up.

Duane Edwards drove in a free kick from the left and Tristan Khan was at the end of it with a well directed header into the back of the Naparima goal to get his and Presentation College's second goal of the game.

Despite some last minute pressure, the 'Pres' defense held firm for the shut out.

Benedict's keep in the title hunt: St Benedict's 2 - 1 Vessigny

St Benedict's ran out comfortable 2-1 victors over Vessigny at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium.

Despite some loose defending at times, it was a deserved victory for the boys in green, although Vessigny did have a couple gilt edged opportunities to draw level which they failed to capitalize on.

The game was virtually all St Benedict's from the opening kick-off and after just 11 minutes they found themselves in front thanks to a goal from Sheldon Alexander.

'Benedicts' doubled their lead just one minute later through Troy Moses.

St Benedict's continued to enjoy the lion's share of possession but it was Vessigny who scored against the run of play in the 33rd minute.

Terece Marshall found himself with the ball in the St Benedict's penalty box and hooked it past goalkeeper Keron John with the rest of the Benedict's defense caught napping.

The second half was also one way traffic for large durations of the half. However neither side could add to their tally.

St Benedict's had the best chance in the 55th when they earned themselves a penalty, but Shackiel Henry blasted it wide of the top, right corner.

Vessigny did get forward more as the game neared its conclusion, but it was too little too late and the referee blew for full-time.

Benedict's are very much in the title chase this season and are presently tied with Naparima and Presentation at the top of the South Zone table with 14 points, but trail them based on goal difference.

Vessigny remain in 6th spot with 4 points, 2 points above Siparia.

Siparia and Shiva share the spoils: Siparia 0 - 0 Shiva

Siparia Secondary and Shiva Boys fought to a goalless draw on Saturday at Siparia Grounds.

Both teams' positions in the South Zone standings remain unchanged with Siparia at the bottom of the table on 2 points while Shiva stay in 4th spot with 7 points.

The games postponed due to rain are scheduled for Monday 28th September.

These games are Shiva Boys vs St Benedict's at Shiva Grounds and Siparia vs Vessigny at Siparia.

Presentation and St Benedict's clash on Wednesday 30th Sept at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium with both teams desperate for victory and hoping to claim the top spot in the South Zone.

Naparima go on the road to Vessigny also on that date in what could be a tricky road trip for the defending Champions.

Princes Town host Shiva Boys in the third fixture scheduled for that date.

East Zone Roundup

St Augustine's perfect season ends: St .Augustine 1 - 1 El Dorado

St Augustine and El Dorado battled to a 1-1 draw on Saturday at St Augustine Grounds.

Jevaughn Vance struck for the league leaders after reacting quickly to a mishandled cross by El Dorado goal keeper Keston Mata.

Kerron Hernandez equalized for the visitors with a sublime left footed free kick which flew into the top right hand corner of the goal. A contender for goal of the season.

'Gustine' should still have grabbed the three points, but were guilty of squandering numerous opportunities and would no doubt be disappointed with a draw.

St Augustine are still very much in control in the East Zone despite dropping their first points of the 2009 campaign. They remain on top of the East Zone with 19 points, while El Dorado sit in 2nd with 13 points.

San Juan return to winning ways: San Juan 2 - 1 Arima

San Juan picked up a much needed victory on Saturday when they emerged victorious 2-1 over Arima Secondary at San Juan Grounds.

Aaron Ballantyne scored for the visitors but it wasn't enough as San Juan got the win through strikes from Daniel Apparicio and Kurdell Braithwaite.

San Juan move into third position in the East Zone with 11 points. Arima drop to 6th position on 4 points.

Grande shock Trinity East at home: Trinity East 1 - 2 Sangre Grande

Newboys, Sangre Grande, pulled off a shock 2-1 road victory on Saturday against Trinity College East.

Capildeo Sharma and Akeel Alvarez were the heroes for the visitors giving their side a much desired victory.

Chryston Brown scored Trinity East's only item.

Trinity East slip to 4th position in the East Zone with 10 points, while Sangre Grande rise to 5th position on 6 points.

East Zone action resumes on Wednesday 30th September when league leaders, St Augustine travel to Arima.

Second place El Dorado also go on a tough road trip to Toco, while Trinty East and San Juan square off in a clash with both teams needing all 3 points if they are to stand any chance of catching St Augustine.

Central Zone - Matchday 5 Roundup

Caps drop first league point in 3 seasons : Carapichaima 0 - 0 Presentation Chaguanas

Carapichaima and Presentation College Chagauanas battled to a 0-0 draw on Saturday at Carapichaima Grounds.

This result will come as a surprise as Carapichaima has usually maintained 100% seasons over the past few years in the Central Zone.

'Caps' still sit comfortably on top of the Central Zone with 10 points with Presentation Chaguanas  trailing them in 2nd spot on 7 points.

Neighbors battle to draw: Gasparillo 2 - 2 Marabella

The clash between Gasparillo and Marabella resulted in an exciting 2-2 draw on Saturday at Guaracara Park.

Gerald Ruiz scored twice from the penalty spot for Gasparillo while Marabella's Karlon Howard also scored a brace to ensure the teams split the points.

Marabella remain in 3rd spot with 7 points, trailing Presentation on goal difference, while Gasparillo sit in 4th spot with 4 points.

Gasparillo tackle Waterloo next on Wednesday 30th September with Presentation College Chaguanas having a chance to draw level on points with leaders Carapichaima when they host Marabella also on the 30th.

Tobago Zone - Matchday 5 Round Up

Mason Hall stay top: Signal Hill 0 - 1 Mason Hall

Mason Hall's brilliant season continued on Saturday when they edged Signal Hill 1-0 at Bon Accord.

Selvon Williams scored the game's only goal for the visitors.

Mason Hall now go 6 points clear at the top of the Tobago Zone, with 12 points. Signal Hill stay in 4th spot with 3 points.

Roxborough Goodwood in 6 goal thriller: Roxborough 3 - 3 Goodwood

Roxborough and Goodwood gave their fans quite a treat on Saturday in a six goal thriller which ended 3-3 at Roxborough Grounds.

Roxborough was up 2-0 at the half thanks to goals from Akeel Sterling and Akeel Scott but Goodwood fought back into the game tying it up at 2-2 when Michael Ramsey and Goswald Patterson found the back of the net.

Once again Roxborough then pulled ahead, this time through Dillon Villafana, but Goodwood never surrendered and drew level once more through Rondell Winchester.

Goodwood continued to apply the pressure and Roxborough would have been extremely grateful to come out of it with a draw by the time the referee blew for full time after twice giving up the lead.

Roxborough remain in 3rd spot with 4 points, while Goodwood sit in last spot but get their first point of the season.

Roxborough face Scarborough on Wednesday 30th September when Tobago action resumes while Signal Hill host Goodwood in the other fixture carded for that date.

Doh forget de days when naps use to get level cutarse from everybody, as u said every dog does have its day and i feel naps days are coming to an end.  However, I feel benedicts winning this year despite pres victory over naps, benedicts looking real good although they had a lucky win against pres in the first round.  Their match with Pres this week will be fireworks.
