W Connection beat Real to stay alive in CCL.
« on: October 21, 2009, 08:02:32 PM »
W Connection beat Real to stay alive in CCL.

Jose Carlos Diaz scored twice in three minutes and Jose Luis Seabra-Filho scored another to keep alive W Connection’s hopes for a berth in the CONCACAF Champions League, leading a 3-2 victory over Real Espana on Wednesday.

The result eliminated Espana, leaving it with six points and tied with Comunicaciones, while W Connection climbed to second place in Group D with seven.

Comunicaciones can claim the last place in the knockout round from the group with a victory at home against Pumas on Thursday, but a draw will send the Trinidadian side through as the Caribbean’s lone representative in the quarterfinals. Pumas already has clinched the group title and a berth in the final eight.

Diaz scored in the sixth and ninth minutes to give an early lead to W Connection, and -- after Espana rallied with an equalizing goal by Carlos Pavon in the 57th – Seabra-Filho scored the winner in the 65th.

Diaz put W Connection early, taking the ball outside the penalty area, dribbling around Espana defender Marion Pena and unleashing a left-footed shot from 22 yards that eluded goalkeeper Marcelo Macias.

Pena was victimized by Diaz less than three minutes later, outracing the Espana defender to a cross from Elkin Gonzales at the right post and side footing the ball for a tap-in.

Espana increased its intensity immediately with both Pavon and Douglas getting dangerous chances before Douglas pulled Espana within a goal in injury time.

The Brazilian took a ball just outside the box, turned and hit a low right-footed shot inside the far post.

Pavon, who was the hero with his second-half goal a week ago against El Salvador that qualified Honduras for its first World Cup since 1982, seemingly brought Espana back to life. Jairo Dainiel Puerto Herrera sent a cross that bounced twice before Pavon beat defender Nickolson Thomas and tapped in at the back post.

Seabra-Filho, who replaced the injured Diaz just before halftime than tallied the winner, settling a cross and beating Macias from 10 meters just inside the right post.

You can't hope on other teams to help you out coming down the stretch. So from the get go you have to make use of your chances. It was unfortunate for them in them 2 Pumas game. They give Puma a fight both games. At this moment Connection is the best playing team in TT(Clubs and national). But it was depressing to see all them invisible people in Mannie Ramjohn. Sando, wey the south people.

Well Andre,
When I mentioned sando  I was really referring to Sando on this forum.  I know Marabella is just outside of Sando. I pass there enough time to go to Union park, Guara and Skinner Park. But since I living in foreign, distance is a relative thing now. As far I am concern, Marabella, Gasparillo, PaP, LaRomaine are all part  Metropolitan San Fernando. Dc United stadium in in Washington, but their fan base is DC,MD,N. VA. Mannie Ramjohn is the main stadium for South. And as far as I am concern, Connection is a South team and I hope southerners are proud of them. I will asked again whey the south people when you want them.

Again Jose Seabra to the rescue like he did against Guadalajara in 2007.

W Connection is the only team from Trinidad and Tobago carring the flag proudly !!

I notice W Connection got better as the tournament progress.

Big up to W Connection. Whether they go through or not they made us proud.

T&T teams having been beating outside teams consistently and this is a good sign, I only hope the T&T government gets involved and help the league, but first Dexter Skeene must go.

T&T teams have beaten; CD Guadalajara (Mexico), Chicago Fire (USA), New York Red Bulls (USA), Real Espana (Honduras), San Francisco FC (Panama), Puerto Rico Islanders (Puerto Rico), C.S.D. Comunicaciones (Guatemala), New England Revolution (USA) and Atlante FC (Mexico) as of recently.

Defence Force also had success long ago beating teams like Pachuca (Mexico) and C.D. Olimpia (Honduras). They even win de CONCACAF Cup in 1978 and 1985.

Big up W Connection.

Put some money into de league and make sure it is run properly and are better organized. Make sure the money is well invested and not put in someones pocket.

Make sure they put someone who can market the league so it could survive on they own.

The league is important for T&T football, the youths, crime, employment etc....

This is why I feel the government could get involve more and clean up de place and start fresh with new admins, etc...

Same thing they have to do with the TTFF, but we all know how that goes.

But somebody needs to take charge because we have to many worthless dictators in T&T football and the league.

Sam,
I know where you coming from, but you ain't see all the Udecott crap the gov't involve in. On side Jack will welcome the money to assist the league, on the side of his mouth he will blaze Gary Hunt for not assist the national teams. Plus he is an MP, plus he is the CFU man, then he is the Concacaf man, then he is the FIFA man. Too much bachannal.

The main issue is most businesses in TT are not sold on the PFL. The big and powerful businessmen don't see football clubs being an asset to their business, unless they form their own team. But will the fans identify with Pizza Boys FC or KFC FC or Mau Pa. Empty stadiums is not encouraging them business people to put their money in a team. If the stands use to be 1/2 or 3/4 full a businessman might make a gamble with a team. But then we does hear that the reasons fans don't  go are: the footbal is shit, I rather watch EPL and Euro football and after watch that, I can't spend 20 buck to see them local shithongs play,  it too far, that team from marabella, I from Sando.

Last night, Connection went out and win their home game in front an  empty stadium. Barca lost their home game in front of a full house. I sad!!!!!!! not for Barca though.

Pumas own goal (H. Gonzalez 5th).... Comunicaciones leads 1-0....

Victory for Comunicaciones tonight will send them through to the quarter finals, a draw or a loss and Trinidad & Tobago’s W Connection will squeak through on the head-to-head.
