Stay away from cricketers
« on: October 25, 2009, 06:47:53 AM »
John Bravo, father of T&T cricket allrounder, Dwayne Bravo, is sending a message to Prime Minister Patrick Manning to not come to Piarco airport when the team returns home. “Tell Manning don’t come by the airport. We don’t want him up there,” an angry Bravo told the Sunday Guardian shortly after the T&T team lost the final match to New South Wales Blues in Hyderabad, India last Friday. “He aint give the boys nothing.” Bravo was referring to the Government’s alleged lack of financial assistance to the team and the help they solicited from an Indian firm. “We don’t want the Government in the airport,” John insisted. He said he and a Cantaro possee are planning to go to the airport. “I have to go to welcome my son home.”

He said he expected the team to win the league but felt good, nevertheless, because they gave 100 per cent. “They played Australia, who had eight Test players on their side. “Is cricket... If you know cricket, so it is.” T&T cricket captain, Darren Ganga’s entire family went to India to support him and his brother, Sherwin, Barackpore MP, Nizam Baksh said last Friday. “But we’re planning a celebration function for he and Sherwin with their original cricket club, All Apaches. “This is the club they played with from small.” He said Ganga’s grandfather was a cane farmer in the area and his father is a retired school teacher.

Nearly $3 million cricket has gotten up to now from the government, $550,000 of that was used to prepare the team for this same tournament they're returning from. Misguided anger and an overall foolish sounding person, although one can't judge that just by this quote alone.

The politicians should stay away because they typically don't care these athletes until they are successful, but you can't expect a politician to not play politics.

so how people expecting the ttcb to have funding for this project when this competition wasnt in thier at their budget request from the government? Wouldnt that 3 million be for the regional competitions?

Did the govt allocate extra money for the soca warriors to go the world cup? or they expected TTFF to use thier usual yearly allocations?

I think is high time the gov't stay away from sports altogether. No stadiums, no grants. Let everyone fend for themselves. Like the US does.

They did not get $3 million for the tournament, nor did my quote say that they did. The government, through SPORTT, disburses money to different sporting bodies based on submitted budgets. The money received is based on what was submitted by the TTCB.

$550,000 of the money given by SPORTT was used directly by the T&T team to prepare for the tournament. That was in my quote.

And d next day the Guardian put " It was reported in a daily newspaper that Bravo Sr. etc"

Before they even bother to print a retratcion to a boldface headline, they try to pass it off as a "daily newspaper".
