Naparima and Presentation San Fernando earned contrasting victories yesterday, as they both advanced to the South Zonal final of the Coca Cola Intercol competition.
In the first match of a double-header, at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella, Naparima crushed Siparia 6-0 while Presentation San Fernando pipped Shiva Boys 1-0. The South Zonal final will take place in Marabella next Tuesday.
The longest arch-rivalry in schools football will be contested in the North Zone final, next Wednesday, at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo, as QRC and St Mary’s will square off. Both QRC and St Mary’s needed kicks-from-the-penalty-spot to eliminate St Anthony’s and Fatima respectively.
QRC prevailed 6-5 over St Anthony’s, after a 2-2 regulation time score- line, while St Mary’s got past Fatima 5-3 in the shoot-out, following a 1- 1 result after normal time. Christian Briggs netted for St Mary’s in the 39th while Phillip Coker equalised for Fatima in the 71st.
The semi-final phase will continue tomorrow (FRIDAY), in the Tobago Zone, with Scarborough opposing their arch-rivals and defending champs Signal Hill followed by the clash between Roxborough and Mason Hall. Both matches will be staged at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet, with the first match kicking off at 3 pm.
