Public star in Jabloteh horror show.
By: Lasana Liburd (tnttimes.com).

Bmobile Joe Public captain and talisman Kerry Baptiste rose from the dead to terrorise Clico/ Blink San Juan Jabloteh last night as the “Eastern Lions” romped to a 4-0 triumph over Jabloteh in the Toyota Classic Competition at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya.

It is Public’s third title this season and will surely guarantee the club, owned by the Warner family, the “Club of the Year” title. Twenty-nine-year-old coach Derek King is a cert too for the “Coach of the Year” gong—having already helped the Lions to the Digicel Pro League and Big Six titles—and Baptiste can start clearing space on his trophy case for the Most Valuable Player and Top Scorer awards.

Yet, Friday the 13th of November, 2009 was more memorable for a Jabloteh horror show. At the final whistle, Joe Public were showering in champagne again with another deserved trophy. But it was a tad soulless. Something like “Jason” pumping his fists after carving up a defenceless woman in a bathroom.

Outside the ground, a Jabloteh director railed against the perceived injustice of playing Public at their headquarters rather than at a neutral venue and voiced his displeasure at match official, Neil Brizan. If Jabloth’s players exhibited just half his passion, though, it would have been a different match.

It is more than passing strange that Joe Public played all four of their Classic Competition fixtures at home. Yet, Jabloteh have won at Macoya before and are free to bring as many supporters as they like—there is rarely a shortage of seats at domestic matches. The “San Juan Kings” were their own worse enemies after chosing the wrong night to act like the guy who fumbles with his car keys as the demented slasher closes in.

Yes it definitely was a horror show by Jabloteh who looked like a non-professional team last night. They played with no desire, no cohersion, no game plan, no discipline, no communication. Their defence, midfield and fowards played like three seperate units and never looked interested in supporting each other.

Yes Joe Public playing at home could have given them an advantage but from the first wistle Public was the better team by far and the only fault I could have found in their game was the score line which should have been atleast 8 easily.

Hopefully Jabloteh can get back on track next season. One note about the Jabloteh defence was that they missed Dennis Lawerence badly at the back.

Congrats to Derek King and Joe Public. Well done. I do hope Jabloteh rebound next year. This team is no fly-night team. They have been in football for a longtime. I hope they get more financial resources to get good local team to challenge Connection, Mau Pau and JP.

Can't give you a number but the stadium was filled. Don't think I noticed much empty seats.

1000 peeps. No wonder mih padner Coops does only shake he head, when he read them reports. All I have to say is the clubs sponsors, admins. and the PFL(Dexter) have serious serious work to do. The league can't sustain it self on an average of 1 thousand peep.

The background rythm they used was real pulsating. better that some of the other music they does use.

Exactly. A cup final between the #1 and #2 teams in the league will definitely draw more than average crowds. The question is how teams like Rangers and Tobago survive year after year. The league is the most competitive in the Caribbean, give them that, they could hold their own with MLS and Central American sides.

People like to cuss the players, but is the PFL board that need to get their business together and start to market the league effectively and start filling these stadiums. Either that or just let it die off and start over with people that know how to grow a league properly

While we luv 2 cuss Skeene etal d gospel truth peeps not into football. D national team cyah pull a good crowd until it look like we goin a WC and it is d lime of d day. What d teams need 2 do is strt to identify wit dey communites via d schools etc. So d chirren and dey parents go identify wit d team and go games.
