Baptiste, King to be honoured on Boxing Day
Gregory Trujillo

BMOBILE Joe Public’s coach, Derek King and its top goalscorer, Kerry Baptiste, will be honoured on Boxing Day by Earl “Mango” Pierre, president of the T&T Football Players Association of Brooklyn, New York. King, who steered Joe Public to four titles in the T&T Professional Football League and the FA Trophy championship, along with Baptiste, will receive plaques after the staging of a friendly match between members of the T&T Football Coaches Association and players of T&T Internationals, which is based in Brooklyn.

The match will be played on St Anthony’s grounds in Westmoorings, from 3 pm. King will be appearing on the coaches team while Baptiste has been invited as a guest player on the T&T Internationals squad. Both are hot favourites to be crowned 2009 “Coach of the Year” and “Footballer of the Year” respectively. Also receiving a plaque will be Trent Noel, who was honoured last year but did not receive his award. He was the 2008 “Footballer of the Year.” T&T Internationals will be under the captaincy of former national defender Brent Sancho.

Some of the other players on the side will be Cornel Glenn, Marvin Oliver, Leslie Fitzpatrick, Steve Sealy, Clint Marcelle, Ricardo Aleong, Shane Pierre, Dean Mapp and Joel Gibbons. Pierre, who is home for the Christmas holidays, said yesterday that his organisation, T&T Players Association of Brooklyn commemorated 100 years of football in T&T by producing a handout that honoured former Prime Minister Eric Williams, national player and coach Russell Latapy and the legendary Pele.

If that is a joke what you will say about the one we say we have, every year Mango does do this and he around a long time, this is more about himself than anything else,he tries to keep himself in T&T Football and it's his way of doing it,he has no sponser or makes no money from it,it's just a day for all to come together and have a good time, meet old friends etc etc

Guys,
Mango and some of the ex-TT players does do all kind of exhibition games in Brooklyn. Sammy does run with Ice-picks. Men like Godfrey Harris, Selwyn Murren, Leo brew, Carter and some I don;t remember reside in NY/NJ. I does see some of them, off and on at games. Especially at Boy's high. I know Mango is involve in TT football brooklyn.I attended a back-yard lime after a game against Ice-picks, a couple years ago and saw quite a few former national players there. I will find out more about The TT Footballers Assoc.

Deeks,
Mango and Sammy are two guys who have been trying to keep the ex T&T players connected in NY by developing different events, wheather it's fete match, get togethers etc etc it had one where they honored the guys who died like Sharkey,Russel etc the last one they had was where they honored Buggy,Headley,Span etc what you are saying there is correct, but it's nothing more than just a social thing.Since i know Mango he always like to know he can rub shoulders with the big boys in Football,he is that kind of fella.

Latapy, Pele star in Brooklyn booklet
Trinidad Guardian

“Sport is a way to achieve consistency and excellence in professional skills and attitude,” said Earl “Mango” Pierre, president of the T&T Players Association of Brooklyn. “It can also transcend into other lifestyles and professions. We must use the power of sport to change things.” In the booklet, was a famous quote from PM Williams: “Bacchanal and confusion cannot be the foundation of an orderly society. Thrive for excellence and character in the great virtuous such as trust worthiness, obedience and honesty so that under God our nation would produce worthy citizens.”

Pierre said he was grateful to several business places in New York owned by T&T nationals for assisting in making the handout possible, as well contributing to several initiatives organised by the association over the years. Among them are Rising Sun Travel Agency, Juniors Auto Repair, Dach’s Auto Repair, A&A Doubles, Mike’s Tire Centre, Trinbago Shipping, Gloria’s 1, 2 and 3, Tropical Paradise Restaurant and Ballroom, Ali’s Roti Shop, Breakfast Shed, Bake and Things, Rango Mas Camp, Best Bites, Canarsie Hair Salon, San Juan Roti Shop, Sugar Cane and One Love.

Pierre, who is home for the Christmas holidays, honoured bMobile Joe Public’s coach, Derek King and its top goalscorer, Kerry Baptiste, yesterday following a friendly match between foreign-based T&T Internationals and a team from the T&T Football Coaches Association on St Anthony’s ground in Westmoorings. King, who steered Joe Public to four titles in the T&T Professional Football League and the FA Trophy championship, along with Baptiste, received plaques.
