Silvio Spann wants Wrexham FC stay
By Richard Williams (The Leader)

SILVIO SPANN wants to extend his stay at Wrexham.

Hoping to make his comeback from injury in tomorrow’s FA Trophy first round tie against Altrincham at The Racecourse, Spann is – like the majority of the Reds’ squad – out of contract at the end of the season
.
Manager Dean Saunders has already offered new deals to goalkeeper Chris Maxwell, centre-back Frank Sinclair and midfielder Andy Fleming, and he has challenged other members of the squad to play their way into his plans.

The Trinidad and Tobago international, who joined Wrexham from W-Connection FC after gaining a work permit in September 2007, hopes he will be offered a new contract.

“My contract is up in June but I can’t disclose anything with that,” said Spann.

“It is looking positive and I would like to stay. So far I have been enjoying myself here – Wrexham is like home away from home.

“The future is always uncertain in this profession but I would like to be part of the direction the club is trying to go, and be part of what the gaffer is trying to do which is positive.

“If I have to move on, I would wish everyone at the club all the best.”

Spann has been troubled with hamstring problems for the last month and last featured for Wrexham in the 2-0 home defeat against Hayes & Yeading on November 14.

Having returned to full-training, Wednesday’s postponed reserve team match prevented Spann from continuing his comeback but the 28-year-old hopes to feature at some stage in tomorrow’s tie.

“I did my outer left hamstring to start with and was out for two weeks,” said Spann.

“While I was at the sprinting stage coming back from that, most of the weight and pressure I’d put on the other leg eventually strained that hamstring and kept me out for two weeks as well.

“I had a month of hamstring problems and it was very frustrating watching and not being part of things.

“I am okay now. With a couple of games under my belt and more full training sessions, I will be 100 per cent.

"I would like to be part of it tomorrow and get some minutes under my belt.

“I would love to play every day, that is what we are in this profession for, and I enjoy playing. Nothing else matters when you are on the pitch.”

Signed as  a midfielder, Spann was converted into a right-back by Saunders during the close season and has made the majority of his performances this term in defence, and although pleased with general standard of his performances, Spann admits he can improve further.

“Everyone went away on vacation when last season finished but I went straight to international camp,” he added.

“I think that benefited me in a way and it gave me a good start to pre-season, and that continued when the season began.

“I have had a lot of games. There is room for improvement, I am always trying to better myself and the gaffer has a lot to say so I take it on board.

“I feel it has gone alright so far, apart from the fact we have been playing well and then conceding goals.”

Prove to the powers that be that you have the skills and fortitude to be worthy of a roster spot on the team. Leroy Spann is your father but that is where it ends. If you don't have the skills just shut to f&^k up. Nobody owes you any f%$king thing. You heard?.

somewhere along the way he lost faith in his abilities and decided to settle for mediocrity......when you shoot for a high level you train to play at a high level if you shoot for mediocrity you train to maintain and then you forget how much better you really are or really can be .... kinda sad .... think I need to go back home call up Jan and coach some belief in some of our youths ..... :'(

Wrexham FC release 11 players as manager Dean Saunders revamps squad
Wrexham Daily Post

WREXHAM FC manager Dean Saunders has told 10 players they will not be offered new contracts as he revamps his squad ahead of next season's Blue Square Premier campaign.

The 10 players culled as Saunders looks to build a squad capable of promotion are defenders Mike Williams and Sam Williamson, midfielders Mark Jones, Hedi Taboubi, Nathan Fairhurst, Silvio Spann, Jamie McCluskey, Steve Abbott and Luke Holden, and strikers Wes Baynes and Matty Wolfenden.

Saunders has decided to offer new one year deals to defenders Aaron Brown and Ashley Westwood, midfielders Christian Smith and Kristian O'Leary, and striker Gareth Taylor.

Striker Marc Williams, recovering from a broken foot injury, will be given a six-month contract to prove his fitness. Centre-back Mansour Assoumani has also been offered a new deal.

For real though. Spann need to get out of that blue square league, even if that mean playing proleague he will still get more looks on the national setup
