President of the Trinidad Muslim League (TML), Azid Ali, has expressed jubilation at the ruling handed down by Justice Joan Charles which states that the court does not have the jurisdiction to order a woman wearing a burqa to have it removed in order to serve as a juror. Charles, who had heard arguments from several interested parties in 2008, made the ruling yesterday in which she stated that neither the judiciary nor a criminal trial judge has the authority to request that the headgear be removed.
