Youngest hockey official off to Mexico
Tobago News

SEVENTEEN-YEAR-OLD Ariel Wallace from Tobago will be the youngest-ever official to work in an international hockey tournament.

Wallace flew out on Thursday to Hermosillo, Mexico to serve as a judge in the 2010 Pan American Youth Championship, which ended last Saturday. In an arena where the majority of judges are 40 years and older, Wallace was obviously happy about his appointment by the FIH, the international governing body for the sport.

"I was a bit excited...I mean I was kind of surprised because somebody had to be thinking about me to say 'we should send this young boy to Mexico...'"

Wallace's interest in officiating field hockey began at the age of 14 in 2006, although a year earlier he had passed the Trinidad and Tobago Football Referees Association's recruitment exam to become Tobago's youngest football referee.
