What do Trinidadian cricket and England's 2018 World Cup bid have in common? Longdenville Cricket Club will be the site of a clinic for T&T soccer coaches put on by Frenchman David Ginola, an ambassador for England's 2018 World Cup bid. David Dein, England 2018's international president, the bid's chief executive, Andy Anson, and the director of campaign operations, Jane Bateman, were also headed to Trinidad & Tobago for the Caribbean Football Union dinner and congress.
The connection? Trinidadian Jack Warner is the president of Concacaf and an influential member of the FIFA executive committee that will decide the hosts of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups. Warner hails from Longdenville, whose cricket clubs are seeking assistance to get cricket facilities.
"Clubs in Longdenville are craving better opportunities and better facilities for their cricket," Warner said. "If we have to seek assistance from outside of the country, then we shall do that as I have promised them that I will take whatever necessary steps are required."
