U-17 Women clinch third place.
By Shaun Fuentes (TTFA).

Trinidad and Tobago Under 17 Women’s Team clinched third place in the Caribbean Football Union Championship with a 3-0 victory over Cuba on Sunday in Puerto Rico.

Following their 1-0 defeat to Jamaica in the semi-finals on Friday, the T&T girls lifted themselves to finish on top in their final encounter of the series.

T&T got goals from Laurelle Theodore in the 25th minute and 76th minutes and Shenieka Paul in the 69th.

The win was however not enough to secure a place in the CONCACAF Finals in Grenada next March as only the two finalists Jamaica and Haiti progressed along with hosts Grenada as the Caribbean’s three representatives in the 8-team tournament.

T&T lost to Jamaica 1-0 on Friday after conceding an 83rd minute goal.

The team will return to Port of Spain on Monday evening.

Today marks day 1 of the CONCACAF tourney. Canada defeated Guatemala 3-0 and Haiti has started off in a rampaging mood versus hosts Grenada. Match in progress. When last I had a look, it was 2-0.

Very interesting story doh ... Grenada has a 10 year old in their squad. Not sure if she is seeing action in this match doh. Will post a highlight reel for a glimpse of her. Talented and foreign-based.

EDIT: 4-0 now. First half.

6-0 with less than 35' on the clock.

I wonder if Concacaf have a minimum age requirement for the under 17?

I seen some 10 year old girls play and I also seen 17 year old girls play.. the level of play cannot be compared. That 10 year old must be a boss on the field.

The US is routing Jamaica 8-1 with the match in progress. Frankie Tagliaferri seems to be scoring every few minutes since the second half began. Jamaica will soon be put out of their torture as we are almost in injury time.

Historic win gives Haiti Group A crown at CU17W
CONCACAF

ST. GEORGE'S, Grenada -- Haiti overcame a one-goal deficit, scoring twice in the final nine minutes, to earn a 2-1 victory over Canada and clinch first place in Group A of the CONCACAF Women's Under-17 Championship at the Grenada Athletics Stadium on Monday.

All the goals were scored in the second half of a battle between two sides that previously secured semifinal places. On her 17th birthday, Sarah Stratigakis gave Canada a short lived 1-0 lead. Mikerline Saint Felix equalized and then Shelsie Melissa Dacius converted a penalty kick in the 84th minute to give the Caribbean runner-up a historic win

Haiti (3W-0D-0L, 9 points) will meet the Group B runner-up for a spot in the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Friday's semifinals, while Canada (2-0-1, 6) will face the group winner.

Stratigakis, the Golden Ball winner at the 2014 CONCACAF Girls' Under-15 Championship, put home Jordyn Huitema's right-wing cross with a sliding point-blank shot past goalkeeper Kerly Theus in the 77th minute.

Four minutes later, Saint Felix scored her third goal of the tournament.   After Melchie Daelle ‘Coventina’ Dumonay delivered a free kick from the right edge of the box, near the goal line, Nerilia Mondesir powered a shot that goalkeeper Lysianne Proulx punched towards Saint Felix.  As she fell inside the six-yard box, the substitute connected with her left foot into the back of the net.

Dacius, who had a brace in the 13-0 win over Grenada, whipped her penalty into the lower left corner past Proulx for the game-winner after Kennedy Faulknor fouled Nerilia Mondesir in the area.

The Haitians had two opportunities to score in the opening half. Proulx came well out of the penalty area in the 15th minute for a clearance only to miskick the ball straight into the sky. As she scrambled back into box, Dumonay launched a shot that Proulx managed to save with a dive.

In the 27th minute, the Haitians were awarded a free kick as Proulx stepped over the line while throwing the ball to a teammate at the edge of the penalty box. Mondesir nearly made the goalkeeper pay dearly as she rocketed a shot over the defensive wall and off the left post.

The Canadians also hit the woodwork in the 43rd minute, when Stratigakis' attempt skimmed off the top of the crossbar.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

Canada 4 Haiti 2. Canada has qualified for Jordan 2017.

Haiti's Mondesir scored 7 goals to achieve the most goals scored in the tourney.

In the final, at ~30' ...the match remains goalless.

EDIT: 1-0 USA @ 45'.

U17 WWC kicked off today. In the opening match, Venezuela suffered a 2-1 defeat to Germany. Both nations have made tremendous contributions in this age group, with Venezuela being the dominant South American participant in recent cycles.

In Match #2, Mexico is running New Zealand 2-0 at half time.

U-17 Women’s Team prepares for Start of World Cup Qualifiers in August.
TTFA Media.

With Trinidad and Tobago’s Senior Men’s team in the midst of World Cup qualifying business, another national team, this time the Women’s Under 17 team are deep into preparations for the start of the qualifiers for the 2018 FIFA Under 17 Women’s World Cup which will be played in Uruguay.

T&T will host Group A of the Caribbean leg of the Concacaf championship as they face US Virgin Islands, Curacao and Grenada from August 23-27.  Haiti will host the final Caribbean round.

The winners of each of the five preliminary groups will advance to the final round to join Haiti, where they will be divided into two groups of three teams each, with the top three teams qualifying for the final Concacaf tournament as the CFU representatives.

Currently a T&T squad comprising of 25 players is being overseen by English-born women’s coach Joanne Daniel. The T&T team is also currently participating in the TTFA Women’s League Football (TTWoLF).

“Preparation is going well at the moment, We are working very hard, currently playing in the Wolf League and overall I would say things are progressing nicely although there is always room for improvement,” Daniel told TTFA Media on Saturday.

“Overall I think the players are progressing well. We have a larger squad of 25 at this time which is a bit high at this stage so close to the tournament but at the same time we want to give the players the best opportunity and then end up with the best squad for the competition.”

The T&T Under 17s lost 3-0 to Real Dimension on Saturday, giving a good account against a team that includes some six Senior national team players on its roster.

“We lost 3-0 against a team that is made up of a number of senior national team players, former and present, so for our team of players that are  14,16 or 17 to play and lose 3-0 isn’t bad and I thought there were a lot of positives to take from the match,” Daniel said.

“This team came together in March after being together for six weeks last year so it’s not a huge amount of time to get ready. We are trying to get a lot accomplished in a little amount of time to get them ready. We play in the qualifiers in August and then the next round is in October .

“In the league so far we played teams that finished in the top three last year in our first two games, we lost 2-0 and 3-0 in good matches so I am happy with how we are progressing but still there is work to do.

“I am confident we can do very well in the first rounds. We have very good attacking players, our defensive play and defensive structure I think needs more work and that is what we are focusing on. We have to win the first rounds yes but at the same time we have to be preparing to play the likes of Haiti and Jamaica,” added Daniel who has lived in T&T for the past nine years.

“Our goal naturally is to get to the Concacaf stage and give it our best shot to qualify for the World Cup.”

The team trains Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and play in the League on Saturdays.

The Under 17 staff is currently Daniel (Coach), Ricarda Nelson (Manager), Glennon Foncette (Goalkeeper Coach) and Natalie Harper (Equipment manager).

A total of 16 teams will play at the World Cup in December 2018 in Uruguay. Fifteen teams will qualify from six separate continental competitions including three from Concacaf.

U-17 Women prepare for Start of Concacaf Caribbean qualifiers.
TTFA Media.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Under 17 Women’s Team are counting down to the start of the World Cup qualifying quest as they look ahead to the CONCACAF Caribbean U17 preliminary phase which takes place at the Ato Boldon Stadium from August 23-27th.

The squad is currently training up to four days per week under head coach Jamaal Shabazz. T&T will face US Virgin Islands in their opening Group A match on August 23rd at 7:30pm at the Ato Boldon Stadium. They then take on Curacao on August 25th at 7:30pm and close off the group phase against Grenada at 7:30pm on August 27th, also at the Ato Boldon Stadium, the home of football.

The other Caribbean groups are Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Anguilla and Bahamas w in Group B; Guyana, Barbados and Cuba are in Group D, while St. Vincent & The Grenadines, St. Kitts and Nevis and Jamaica are in Group E.

“”It’s been a very interesting three weeks with these youngsters since I took over the preparations,” Shabazz told TTFA Media.

“From dealing with senior men’s team at the beginning of the year to now working with the Under 17 Girls is a most humbling and rewarding lesson in my career as a coach. ”

Shabazz commented on the shape of the team at the moment, saying they were in a good state ahead of the upcoming matches.

“I am happy with the way that the players and staff responded to my entry into the program. We were slaughtered a year ago at Concacaf U-15 as then they were a bunch of beginners entering the world of football for the first time. One year later we shall approach this CFU Qualifiers with courage and confidence,” he added.

Shabazz said it was evident that the preparations undergone by the team over the past few months prior to his appointment, has had a positive effect on its outlook and he was anticipating that the current preparations will aid in pushing them past the upcoming preliminary stage.

T&T are vying for one of eight places at the 2018 CONCACAF Women’s U-17 Championship which will be the 6th edition of the CONCACAF Women’s U-17 Championship, the biennial international youth football championship organised by CONCACAF for the women’s under-17 national teams of the confederation. The top three teams of the tournament will qualify for the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Uruguay as the CONCACAF representatives.
