Torpedo on track!
« on: March 21, 2010, 01:24:00 PM »
The gun has sounded and the race has started! Richard 'Torpedo' Thompson kicked off his 2010 outdoor campaign with a 3rd leg split of 46.82 secs in the 4X400 relay at the Louisiana Classic in Lafayette yesterday. This is Torpedo's first 400 metres race run since attending LSU. He said that he was a bit conservative especially in the middle part of the race but now that he knows what he is capable of, things will just get better from here onwards. He got the baton in 4th place and handed it over in 2nd place to help his team to finish in that same position. As he said "This is just the beginning and a sign of things to come"

Here are the results for the race:

Nice one, Richard  :beermug:

On a side note, how do sprinters tend to approach years like 2010, ie. No Olympics or World Championships? Can they potentially suffer from a lack of motivation?

Some sprinters do listen  ;D. Call it the Bolt effect.

Sprinters are running more 400s and 4x400 legs this offseason than ever before. Think that viral Bolt 43.5 video had anything to do with it???

Dix also ran 46.88 in an open 400m race this past Saturday.

Non championship years SHOULD BE the years to experiment a little with the training and get strong for the 3 championship years to come '11, '12, '13!

His split was 47.0 flat! He also ran a 200m leg in a sprint medley relay the day before. His next race will be another 200m flat in two weeks.

Much thanks...

Would like to see something a split time in the 45.xx range, given his available foot speed. Is he scared of the pain, or has problems with pacing?

Neither one! Had an extremely tough training week so legs were weary. His coach isn't worried as well as RT as nothing happens before its time!! ;D

Fair enough. It is still that time of the season where athletes will train right through a meet.

If that's the case, I will be looking forward to a 9.7x run later this summer.
