K'Naan "Waving Flag" Official Anthem 2010 FIFA World Cup

This is relatively old news but has been gaining momentum in recent days.

If it has been posted before, apologies - I searched but could not find anything on the forum.


K'Naan's 'Wavin Flag' named official anthem of the 2010 FIFA World Cup



Hip Hop artist, Kanaan's song Wavin Flag has been chosen as the official song  for the FIFA World Cup of Soccer in 2010. Somali born Canadian raised Kanaan is a rare talent, an artist creating critically acclaimed "conscious"  Hip Hop with a message from a base in Canada.

K'naan's family fled the violence in Somali and landed in Toronto where he grew up in the suburb of Etobicoke, Toronto, Canada

Several video versions exist.

But this is the latest March 2010 re-mix for K’Naan’s Wavin’ Flag Celebration mix directed by Nabil Elderkin (the same guy that did Kanye’s Coldest Winter). Canadian K’Naan’s original song of his 2009 album, Troubadour was picked to be the official theme of the 2010 FIFA World Cup which a reworked version came out a month ago with a cheesy as hell video featuring Spanish artist David Bisbal (see above). This newest version is the one that Coca-Cola will be using for their 2010 South Africa FIFA World Cup marketing campaign and waaaaay less cheesy (this paragraph is from Above and Beyond Magazine)

K'Naan is cool...and that is a great song- I've had it on my iphone for a while...didn't know it was still current. (understandably they totally modified it for the world cup)....

Very fitting song for the tourney...

K'Naan just performed it live at the kick off concert.  Lots of emotion in the crowd.
