The future of West Indies cricket was on show in Trinidad and Tobago during the past week, in the West Indies Cricket Board Regional Under-15 Championships, and judging by the performances of the six teams involved that future is a bright one.
Those were the general sentiments expressed by the guest speakers during the closing ceremony for the regional U-15 tournament, which was held at the VIP Lounge of the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Port of Spain on Sunday night.
T&T, led by their ’MVP’ captain Vikash Mohan, clinched their first regional title in five years in the most competitive tournament in recent history.
The top three teams-hosts Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana and former champions Jamaica-all finished level on eight points apiece and the winners had to be decided by net run-rate.
With a three-way tie, T&T edged out their opponents with a superior net run-rate (calculated by Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board statistician Rohit Balkissoon) of +1.32.
