Stephen Ames finishes 14 at Verizon Heritage
Monday 19th April, 2010

Stephen Ames finished 14th at the Verizon Heritage yesterday after a three-over-par 74.

Ames vaulted in contention on Saturday with a magnificent round of 65, but faded yesterday.

Jim Furyck won in a play-off after Brian Davis called a penalty on himself during the first sudden-death hole.

At the play-off hole, Davis attempted a chip, but his wedge moved a loose reed in the marshy area.

Davis quickly called for a rules official, who after calling colleagues to check the replay, confirmed the two-stroke penalty.

Davis conceded to Furyk before the world's sixth-ranked player putted out.

The victory was Furyck's 15th PGA tour win and second since March, earning him just over a million dollars.
