Fenwick post match reaction for the Jabloteh vs River Plate game.
By: Inshan "Flex" Mohammed.

San Juan Jabloteh head coach and former England international Terry Fenwick spoke to the Soca Warriors Online (SWO) about his team's participation in the 2010 CFU qualifiers thus far, and his ambitions for the Club and players despite the financial hardship they are currently experiencing.

Getting right down to business, one could not refrain from asking about the "game of the week" or, shall I say the CFU game of the year...(so far). A game where gun shots rang off to cool down the violence and blows passed from the field straight down to the players’ locker rooms. This is probably a first in the history of T&T club football.

San Juan Jabloteh played River Plate PR last Sunday at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Trinidad. Terry and his troops were up against a team with thirteen Argentines on their roster, 2007 Liga Premier winners, runners up in their maiden league season (2008), 2009 Copa Monteplata winners and defending PR league champions (2009).

Immediately Terry knew he had his work cut out for him as his opponents were only three years old and have been on the inclined since their inception. Club Atlético River Plate Puerto Rico, known also as River Plate, RPPR or simply River, is a Puerto Rican football club, established in 2007 which play in the Puerto Rico Soccer League.

Terry was eager to tackle the task ahead. When asked:

Flex - "So Terry, what are your thoughts on the game?"

Terry - "We really could not have written the script better…   We watched River Plate play Alpha United (Guyana) on Friday evening and went straight to camp from there.

"The following morning we held a question an answer session with the players to see if they had picked up the key information necessary to undo River Plate.

"It is worth noting that this team has several Argentineans in their ranks and that they are the current champions of Puerto Rico, so we knew we had excellent opposition against us!

"I was delighted with the feedback. My players recognized the shape of their team, they were not particularly athletic, notably volatile, neat and tidy footballers, we identified their best players and began strategically dismantling them over the three sessions we had before the game.
"
Upon arriving at the Larry Gomes Stadium the River Plate players and staff were already incensed at the condition of the playing field and the poor markings of the pitch…. Another big plus for us…. We’ve played on worse all pre-season!

"We made the game hot, quickened the pace, similar to the US vs T&T in Chicago, we closed their intricate passing game down, frustrated their main players and got into them!

The game wasn’t particularly entertaining but it was tactically enthralling.  We knew it was a matter of time before this side would crack!  And they did… frustration led to off the ball incidents and late tackles.

"Our pre-match preparation was about us…. do not react, tackle them, pick em’ up, dust them down and go again!  For the main part our players displayed great composure and discipline…. I was proud of their application, we had their number!

"Once Marcano scored we knew they would blow up. Following their first sending off we changed our tactics and kept possession which further frustrated the already volatile River Plate players…

Then, to my disappointment, Cyrano Glen broke rank and gave in to a selfish desire to retaliate, schoolboy error!  That gave River Plate a lift for a few moments until we regained control and another River Plate player was sent off…

"Cyrano, such a nice kid and not at all abrasive, lost it for a mad moment.

"Regrettably, I displayed my anger at Cyrano’s actions… an apology has already been accepted by Cyrano for my misdemeanor.

The game was then a formality. River Plate had really no one but themselves to blame for their poor display, indiscipline and unprofessionalism."

Flex - "Was this the first time you have experienced a game like this?

Terry - "Yes, this was the first time I’ve experienced something like this….. as a player, playing in front of big crowds, there was always ample security and stewards policing the game…. The after game fiasco on Sunday at the Larry Gomes was shocking and should not be seen again!"

Flex - "Now that you've advanced to the April 28 - May 10 CFU final round and will face Joe Public, Puerto Rican clubs Bayamon FC and Puerto Rico Islanders, how are you planning to approach such games?"

Terry - "Well we know all about Joe Public and we have a fair idea about Puerto Rico Islanders, Bayamon of Puerto Rico are an unknown entity at the moment, but we’ll do our home work and prepare as best as possible to give ourselves the best possible chance of qualifying for the CONCACAF stage of the competition."

Flex - "Overall, are you satisfied with your team's performance and discipline? Are you also ready for the 2010 season kick off?"

Terry - "Jabloteh are operating like Portsmouth at the moment, everything is a challenge, we have prepared as best as possible, but a number of essentials have not been forthcoming… but I must give my players huge respect for the manner in which they have applied themselves during this difficult time for the Club."

Flex - "I believe for the CONCACAF Cup depth and experience is important and I know you are limited on funds. Can we expect anymore 2010 signings?"

"Well Flex, Yes, we are in final negotiations with Messi, Christiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Terry ended with a chuckle....

Glad to hear Fenwick side of the story and glad he apologised to Glen, I hope all de haters come on board now.

Everyone makes mistakes and yes, maybe some T&T players need a dam clout sometimes. I am sure if Earl Jean had clout a few of them last season Jabloteh would have done better....

How come Ronaldo Viana didn't play. ?

I can't wait for the CUF games coming up.

Good luck to Jabloteh and Fenwick.

Nice write up Flex.

When I use http://babelfish.yahoo.com/

And translate de article below I see they real bad talking we, saying we food stink and so on...

· DT: Fabian Zermatten
· Preparador Fisico: Facundo Carrizo
· Utileros: Lucas Mansillas / Esteban Fernandez / Jose Rodriguez
. Cordinador: Juan Filippetti
. Fisiatra: Francisco Rada

Translation of the article Sam provided

The football team had limited work in the Caobos Polideportivo de Ponce from 5pm to 7pm. For direct orders of the President of the Puerto Rican organization, the team can not stop training until you know the decision of the Concacaf, referring to the protest that realize the Club for the serious incidents in the last match played in Trinidad. The players are concentrated in the Ramada Hotel Ponce and happy to be home.

The Legal Department Club presents a report of what happened in the final match of Group C in Port of Spain / Trinidad.

In different ways the President Steven Alvarez summarizes that globally when the home team allowed the public to the stadium and attacked the team is penalized with points, monetary fines and suspension of the stadium for international matches by a certain amount of time. That is just the latest incident without having all the things that went before it. Hopefully the Concacaf analyze the videos that request (not yet provided) and take drastic measures with the local computer. The President of the Puerto Rican Football Federation made a claim to CFU. It's simple evidence and they have them, there is also precedent for teams Trinidad, we have no precedent of this kind, much less. Again we will continue with this until the last consequences summarized Alvarez ...

Yesterday a group of fans traveled to Ponce airport to welcome the team that arrived from Port Of Spain, Trinidad. The players waved, took pictures and signed autographs with fans who then accompanied the team to the Ramada Hotel in Ponce where he will be staying until you know the resolution of the incident in T & T by CONCACAF. Players will be trained in Villa del Carmen / Ponce.

What happened in the final match of group C (River vs Jabloteh) was vergonsozo for world football. The terna arbitral referee had 3 local and unscrupulous violence allowed in the field of play and the fourth official scoffed at the players constantly, not required to have a clear criminal River 2 and poured 3 players. At the headquarters of the CFU allow illegal things like playing an international match without being labeled the court, without security for the visitors, changes

last minute of court time, a hotel deplorable, the food worse. Curacao has a lot to really teach the Trinity in all aspects. The President of River to protest the CONCACAF to play the game again in a neutral country with neutral umpires, does not rule out filing additional criminal charges against San Juan Jabloteh player who assaulted his club trainer with a security guard ( Facundo Carrizo was operated emergency last night and is stable) in a battle that was formed at the end of the game in which River was defended by the public and players Jabloteh cowards. Actually there was no organization or coordination in CFU are a disgrace to international football. The battle that lasted 35 minutes ended with 4 wounded in hospital, President of Concacaf until FIFA will allow you to do what you want ...

Zermatten team arrives tomorrow to San Juan de Puerto Rico on a flight from American Egle at 10:30 am. Zealot The Commission through its President Delma Penalty organized a reception at Luis Munoz Marin airport no matter the result this afternoon. The metro area fans can reach by car and from the south will start a bus with capacity for 45 people out in the Paquito Montaner. People who want to travel on the bus can do it free, but must register at (787) 299-2926. The bus will depart from Paquito at 8:00 am ....
'
The team visited the stadium where the final will be played in group C, the players trained with light exercises and talked with the coaching staff. Facundo Carrizo fitness coach says the team will be in better shape for the big game tomorrow, because several owners who played a few minutes against a team of Guyana took the fatigue of long trip. So far it appears that the striker Juan Manuel Sara can not participate in the final match due to a left knee injury suffered in one of the attacks against Alpha United. River begins at 4:00 pm local time in Puerto Rico. Sigal by the River Chat

The CFU stage change and time for the final match of River, will now be on the Larry Gomes beginning at 4:00 pm local time in Puerto Rico. The stadium's natural grass and can accommodate approximately 22,000 spectators. The River Chat Live will broadcast information for the enjoyment of our fans. The local federation hopes that the stadium is filled to capacity.

Zermatten Fabian's team had a night out in which the feature is not good football which we are accustomed but which had appeared to occur in these games, "The Heart." The team dominated the first 45 'but had to endure the swift counterattack Guyana equipment. The first half ended goalless but it seemed that River deserved a goal. To the surprise of many in the second half Unite Alpha scores a goal on a defensive error by the team.

After 60 minutes' River began to press and looked a lot but at times a little messy. River needed a goal to get more comfortable Sunday's game but the minutes passed and the timer marked its end. The referee decided to add 4 minutes for the time lost over Alpha United.

With that victory the Guyana team remained alive. But it happened again, when you can not win the game is peppy, and heart and in the 93rd minute after a Sandobal overflow reaches the center to Jorge Gonzalez and breast balloon makes it a keeper to put the match 1 to 1 thus eliminating the seasoned team of Guyana. The next commitment is on Sunday at 6:00 pm and the River victory goes to the Final Round.

Zermatten team practiced for the first look at the Marvin Lee Stadium in a light one-hour meeting that began at 6:15 pm.
The players looked relaxed and cheerful waiting for the meeting tomorrow at 8pm, with Alpha United of Guyana.

A arrived at the hotel at 11am Commissioner to review the Concacaf roster and uniforms, routine meetings at international events. At night they dined at the Cascadian Hotel in Puerto Rico River President Mr. Steven Alvarez. The team noticed a lot of unity and professionalism, something that distinguishes our prestigious institution.

The professional staff of River Plate trained this afternoon in the grounds of the Cascadia Hotel.

It was the first training in Trinidad to remove the fatigue of travel.

Completion thereof, the DT Fabian Zermatten and a group of players went to the Marvin Lee Stadium to witness the encounter between San Juan Jabloteh (2) and Alpha United (0). The home team won without showing much superiority.

The Guyana team is required to win against River to stay alive. On Friday promises to be an electrifying match and fans may watch the bodies in the River Chat.

· Dt: Fabian Zermatten
· Prepare Physical: Facundo Carrizo
· Props: Luke Mansillas / Stephen Fernandez / Jose Rodriguez
. Coordinator: Juan Filippetti

The machine is ready

River's team named by many as the "machine" is ready. The team will be arriving tomorrow at Port of Spain Trinidad and Tobago to attend the second round in one of the groups hardest CFU Caribbean Championship.

River trained and competed in friendly games to have continuity between one round and another. Fabian Zermatten coach agreed with the technical performance and physical set this week to look for the pass for the final round will be in Puerto Rico. River Come !!!!!!!!!

This afternoon on a flight from American side River Plate coordinator Mr. Juan Puerto Rico Filippetti as is customary in the state Boricua. The coordinator always travels 2 to 3 days before arrival of the team with the responsibility to ensure that no unforeseen. In advance of the work we will usually never see it, but it is of utmost importance:

In the first instance when the coordinator receives the news of the next destination and dates, has to verify whether any member of the team need a visa to enter the country of destination (mostly the reinforcements when they are from different countries). Then stop enabled visas communicates with the Puerto Rican Football Federation to request information from the contact person in the country of destination will be responsible for receiving the delegation of River. After having contact River coordinator requests preliminary data, (hotel, home, away from the hotel to the stadium, type of transportation, restaurant hired a training, safety, climate, the nearest hospital) after the information arrives corroborates the data coordinator online after consultation with the coaching staff and prepare for the trip. In this case the coordinator arrives 2 days before arrival to discuss the menu with the chef approved by the trainer, assign rooms, rooms equipped with radios for communication stagehand, activate 3 phones (the phones are assigned: 1Presidente / 1Director Técnico/1Coordinador) makes an agreement with a local laundry for the props, check that the bus transported in good condition and receive the team at the airport. It is a great logistic work is performed on each trip not to mention the other staff like Ms. Viviana Canzoniere is Perito Documentologa and is the person who handles all the visas of the team, the firm that audits ECSA players contracts. River Plate represents professional football in Puerto Rico and the hosts hope when we travel an organized structure and River sets the example.

Club Atlético River Plate Ponce Puerto Rico will be arriving in Trinidad and Tobago on April 14 of lodging at The Cascadia Hotel and Conference Centre (Port of Spain). The team played their first encounter with Alpha United (Guyana) on April 16 at 8:00 pm (local time). The Alpha team is 8 games without defeat and encourage them in their prime, but has a problem called River Plate, in the last 485 days the millionaire only had 3 losses and 31 wins. Then a native of Ponce team plays against San Juan Jabloteh (Trinidad and Tobago) on April 18 at 6:00 pm (local time). The 2 games will be played at the Marvin Lee Stadium (Port of Spain). The team will be returning to Puerto Rico on April 19 at 10:30 am on a flight from American Arline.

River President Steven Alvarez and Vice President Dennis Rivera met yesterday afternoon with representatives from FIFA for a period of 4 hours. The Federation Internationale de Football Association traveled to Puerto Rico to gather information on the achievements of professional football and Federated progress. FIFA considers key to the development of football on the island, the growth of the PRSL and the reactivation of the Goal Project. In recent years the presence of the organism that controls the global football grew, due to good scores and administrative. There is no doubt that football is going through its best in Puerto Rican history of the sport.

Club Atlético River Plate of Puerto Rico had the opportunity to compete in the USL 2nd Division (where they play the Islanders) and the President tells us what was the decision and why:

The directive of the Club unanimously decided to participate in the USL in the Caribbean, International Tournaments PRSL and Concacaf. At the moment our priority is to grow internationally and invest in the business of buying and selling of players. We hope to be in a favorable economic position and the Club will invest in the First Division of Puerto Rico continues to improve year after year, that will give us the opportunity to participate in USL Caribbean and Concacaf. The priority this year is to form the lower divisions with staff professionalized Argentina River which would be the first time made in Puerto Rico, giving priority to training and not the monthly fee. League of First Division Puerto Rico for 2011 will be the best in the Caribbean, new computers are entering the PRSL have professional structure, that facilitates the growth of football and therefore rented amateurism. The USL is big league level by the amount of clubs in lower divisions and their formation, but professionalism is higher than the new PRSL and we will see in the field soon. River Plate Ponce Puerto Rico was associated with ECSA International company which handles the administration of different Clubs of America and soon we will have a press conference announcing landmark projects in Puerto Rico. Another issue that we had to look at is that the first division of Puerto Rico is entitled to quotas for CFU. The board's official response was: Playing in the USL U.S. prestige would bring more costs and investment desenfocaríamos our north, the Concacaf. Investing in Puerto Rico and grow our league. No one can move from First Division to Second Division that is not logical, what makes us different to the USL is the expenditure for travel is not the game. People in Puerto Rico and learned and not buy more mailboxes. That is the fear of some.

The Honorable Mayor Mary Mayita Melendez will meet tomorrow with President Steven Alvarez River in order to coordinate technical aspects to use the Paquito Montaner in international games. Mr. Alvarez commented that is sending a request to the Puerto Rican Football Federation for a CFU of the final takes place in the City Master's Ponce. Of course, for that to happen River must pass the difficult area of Trinidad and Tobago.

The Mayor called me when we won in Curacao and I express that is committed to all aspects River. Ponce River is home, the team was born here (in Villa del Carmen) we did not know what would grow so fast and we would have many fans in so little time. So both the mayor and I have a commitment to people and work to continue growing in Ponce Alvarez commented ......

River The Puerto Rico team began this year on tour in Argentina for foguearce with top teams and reach the well-prepared international commitments. After the successful passage through Curacao, Vice President of CFU (Caribbean Football Union) Colin Klass invite the Puerto Rican team to play a Cup in Guyana on 12 May. River in the last 14 months visited, Dominican Republic, Argentina, Curacao and now travels to Trinidad and Tobago. The team led by Fabian Zermatten show much personality and adapts quickly to any court. The team's training consists of using different levels and rivals playing surfaces. River will be arriving at the airport Luis Munoz Marin on 12 April at 10pm.

The Technical Director Fabian Zermatten debut as coach in 2009 with the International Cup in which Monte Plata River was crowned champion. After the championship in the regular series of PRSL with 15 consecutive wins and 1 draw to win the record of being the only undefeated champions in football rented in Puerto Rico. In 2010 participates in the Caribbean Championship in addition to crown the best of the Caribbean 3 provides quotas for the CONCACAF Champions League, getting past the first round and beating her 3 opponents. Definitely get the message clear to the players and the players respond. The goal of the DT is in UAE, a long road, a difficult but trust and work on.

The San Juan Jabloteh is a football club from Trinidad and Tobago Port of Spain. It was founded in 1974 and serves on the TT Pro League.

Is time Jabloteh and Cali  ask the govt and San Juan/ Morvant  business to help  build a small field in Aranguez. It have enough room to build a small stdium. Turf field will do, especially in this type of weather. And proper toilets.

Excellent reply by Fenwick, I know him very well and his heart s in the right place, he mess up and came out and apologised, that's all that matter.

Keep doing your thing Fenwick, don't let the critics get to you. Mistakes happens.

Anil Roberts with Jack Warner instigating alot of assholesness here in T&T for no reason, they only focusing on Terry's action and not on the bigger picture. Jack so wicked he may let River Plate off the hook just to spite Terry.

Everyone in T&T hates Jack and no one pays any mind to Anil, so they looking for attention.

Good interview Flex.

Fenwick fines himself, apologises to Glen.
T&T Express.

San Juan Jabloteh head coach Terry Fenwick has apologised over his reprimanding of midfielder Cyrano Glen for a red card picked up during Sunday’s 1-0 victory over River Plate of Puerto Rico in their final Group D match of the CFU Club Championship second round.

Fenwick pushed Glen behind the head in annoyance as the player made his way off the field after receiving what was deemed an unnecessary direct red card by match referee Courtney Campbell, reducing the T&T Pro League club to ten men in the 73rd minutes, nine minutes after Jason Marcano scored the lone item of the match at the Larry Gomes Stadium.

’I’ve imposed a fine on myself for castigating Cyrano on his sending off,’ said Fenwick, who preferred not to divulge the amount of his fine.

Glen was shown the red card following his blatant elbowing of Jorge Alfredo Gonzales, in clear view of the referee, after receiving an initial elbow from the River Plate midfielder.

’Cyrano and I are fine,’ the Jabloteh coach added. ’He’s a nice kid and this incident is out of character. Cyrano knows me too well and he knows how much emphasis I had put on our discipline for this particular game. Having said that, my push was also unnecessary!

’I’ve apologised to Cyrano for my gesture and he has also apologised for his sending off. For my penance, I will treat my players to lunch sometime over the next couple of weeks.’

Fenwick went on to explain that he prepared his side for three days for their clash against the Puerto Rican powerhouse, even taking the entire team to watch Friday’s match between River Plate and Alpha United of Guyana.

’We have to understand that I’ve prepared the guys to play against River Plate and the volatile nature of their game. On Friday they lost a player to a red card and their coach (Fabien Zermatten) had to be cautioned a number of times on the sideline,’ said Fenwick.

’Our preparation was on self-control and discipline. It was simple...we tackle them, pick them up, dust them down and go again. And Cyrano didn’t keep that discipline and stuff like that could cost you the game,’ said the former England international.

’I would like to thank the fans for the tremendous support they gave us and or the protection they gave my players at the end of the game. I’m sure you will agree, we don’t want to see this again in T&T,’ stated Fenwick, referring to the mass brawl between players of both teams at the end of Sunday’s game at Malabar.
