Joe Public 1 - Ma Pau 1

Today when Glen was substituted he got a pat on the back from Fenwick.

 :beermug: Way to go.

Clubs:
1. Connection looked good. Usual attractive flowing ball. 3 points gained today.
2. Jabloteh looked ordinary with little flair. Usual rough-on-the edges football, somewhat unattractive. To make it through Concacaf Club Championships they will have to improve alot. 0 points today
3. Joe Public looked like a well-oiled machine boy. See comments on some players below. 1 point
4. Ma Pau initially looked outclassed but after equalizing they had Public scampering as they pressed hard for a late goal winner. 1 point will establish that Public could not beat them up. Not bad

JP:
1. Baptiste: deadly clinical finisher with lots of pace, fit as a fiddle and full of confidence. Has good judgment.
2. Toussaint, now with Public: First touch is something to behold. Substituted the japanese midfielder.
3. Tinto: Got gradually better in the second half.
4. Marvin Phillip. Has style. Distributes balls via arm throws, side volleys with class. Capable of moments of insanity trying to perform multiple dribble moves with men breathing dong his back.
5. Radanfah was very effective as last stopper. Ratings went up.
6. Trent Noel. Hustled but nothing brilliant. No super shots nor free kicks today.

WC:
1. Bartholomew and Winchester looked good up front.
2. Hector still going strong.
3. Fevrier have dem boys like Mormons. Real dress code discipline dread. After de game, fellahs walking around in dey uniform with shirt in pants with belt and tie and shiny shoes. Wheyyyss!! Nuff respect, they seem to enjoy marketing deyself as role models.

Continued ....
Ma Pau:
1.  Figeuroa (keeper) looked slick boy.
2. Cyd Gray still aggressive, now playing left wing back.
3. Power looked very influential in defense, now serving as central defender. Powerful low trajectory long ball kicks. Made 1 bad error as he misjudged a sky ball header and almost let Baptiste capitalize and score. Still feel he can be a speedy, aggressive, strong in the air right wing back for the national team.
4. Anthony Wolfe scored making the score 1-1. He was elated.

Jab:
1. Oliver was just doing the basics trying to distribute the ball around .
2. Guerra came on as a substitute. Tried to make some action happen. Nothing brilliant. Got a yellow card for throwing a small tantrum after the ref gave a call against him.
3. Difficult to isolate any player for a big up on this game.

Some event observations:

The good stuff:

1. Crowd response not bad. 99% of folks were located in the covered stand. A few stragglers elsewhere. A good chunk of the mid and upper covered stand was utilized.
2. 30 dullahs fee for "stands".
3. Lots of little children. It seems that they have implemented the children-free-if-under-12 concept that was discussed on this board and it seems to be working with a good domino effect, drawing in more dads, wifeys, gyul and useful waggonists. Nice li'l buzz in de stadium covered section.
4. Cyah say, as has been the excuse before, that the standard of ball is shitty and thus undeserving of the effort to attend. Clearly this is a decent event worth spending 30 dullahs to bring yuh 4 miserable chirren an wife as she eh go want to stay home and let she man geh tackle by all de eye food arong.
5. Trappings of professional culture are becoming more apparent. The culture of professionalism is getting deeper. Seeing neatness, good uniforms, coaches and support staff in dey suits and track outfits, camera crews aplenty, stretcher crews pelting on to de scene when beckoned by the ref, people paying attention to de game and giving constructive criticism and analysis.
6. Nuts and drinks men geyyin' some decent sales.

See below for the bad ...

The bad now:

1. No overhead speaker system. No introduction, no announcement of scorer, substitutions, upcoming events, incentives for attendance. Pure silence. A serious missed opportunity and Skeene and posse were there to see this.
2. The electronic scoreboard was working nicely for the first game and went dead for the second game. Could not tell how many minutes were left till ah hear de whistle blow. Loud steups man.
3. Some sloppyness at the gate as a minor pushing scene developed to get in the 1 single working gate where the cashier was hoping that everybody had 30 dullahs in exact change. C'mon people. Skeene are you hearing boss? We can do better than that. Maybe some thinking that it looks good (from a hype point of view) to see people fighting to get in for a local game.
4. TV crews still on the covered side of de field with their backs to the crowd!!!!  >:( as they dependin' on a long extension cord to power their equipment from the covered stand outlet. Oh gor' man. Patriot talk to de people nah. Yes we want de TV crew but it is suicidal for marketing of the TTProleague to see the EMPTY! uncovered stands as a backdrop. Period.
5. No pamphlets nor magazines on sale. Disappointing. Anyway maybe iz first day issues needing ironing out?  :'(
6. Most people who coming for de fuss time, eh know which player is which and thus when credit is due, the player has gained nothing and no further market value compared to what he had before. I happened to know, for example who Power was, unlike the person I heard calling him "de rasta fellah".
7. No music, no culture, NUTTEN! on display. Daiz criminal Mr Skeene  >:(

It was real refreshing to have these foreign referees who did a great job in both games & surprisingly they were not intimidated by calls on the side lines. They knew no one and so could not have shown any bias.
The referees are here for a Concacaf conference & I think it was a brilliant idea to uutilise them.

I watched both games last evening. I however think that the PFL administrators fell on the job. These two games should have been really hyped up as grudge matches for the following reasons:

1. WC vs Jab - here it is that Earl Jean coached Jab last season & won his first game against WC & now this year Earl Jean is back at WC as assistant coach and Fenwick back at Jab, so this game would obviously have been intriguing. Jean would have obviously wanted to defeat Fenwick & Fenwick on the other hand would want to prove to Jean that he was back. By Jean's reaction at the final whistle it was evident what his feelings were.

2. JP vs MP - again we have a situation where a number of members from the 2009 Champion team have gone over to MP so obviously there would be a lot to look forward to. On one hand MP will want to prove that they had made a good decision signing the former JP players & these players would want to prove to JP that they did the right thing by going over to MP.
JP on the other hand would want to prove to MP that they were still as invincible despite losing these players to MP.
As was expected the game was physical from the get go & plenty yellow cards were dished out to both teams. Probably the draw was a fair result.

3. Again there was a good enough crowd & I think that there should have been some kind of entertainment before the commencement of each game & during the half time periods.
A couple of give aways would have also helped.

4. They could have also announced the games scheduled for today & encouraged persons to attend these games.

5. As this was the opening, Mr. Skeene/Digicel could have taken the kickoff, have a little fan fare, hype up the crowd for the two exciting match ups to come.

But then again maybe the administrators know something that I don't.

Another refreshing aspect of last night was the fact that WC's starting line-up included 9 Trinbagonians and they all came through the WC youth system with two youngsters (Shahdon Winchester & Joevin Jones).

The team was as follows:

Kern Cupid
Clyde Leon
Matthew Bartholomew
Hughtun Hector
Jan Michael Williams
Andrei Pacheco
Keron Cummings
Joevin Jones
Shahdon Winchester
All of the above are Trinbagonians

The other 2:
Elijah Joseph  - Saint Lucian married to a Trinbagonian
Eder Arias  - Colombian

WC as usual played flowing football & the goal came from a 1-2 between the two forwards, Bartholomew & Winchester with 4 defenders from Jab chasing them.

Super Friday April 30th at the HCS:

1. Crowd: Just a little less than opening day, but not bad. Again 99% covered stand. Punctual start. The second game is being advertized as the main event but they have to go easy on that a li'l bit
2. Announcer: Noticeably present now and making a huge difference. Players now identified, upcoming games announced.
3. Music: Now present at the half times. Another huge difference.
4. Scoreboard: Now working for both games. Well done.
5. Price: 30 dullahs still.
6. 1st game was Ma Pau vs St. Ann's Rangers (0-0) and 2nd was Joe Public vs Jabloteh (1-1).
