Where the creativity coming from, Donovan, Dempsey, Torres? Freddy should have been on this side, this team way to safe. We will see what they will do.

Dempsey and Torres presumably...  Beckerman mighta help this team too.

Just heard that Findley made the final cut for the U.S. team.

Two "Trinis" on the U.S. roster... ;D

GOALKEEPERS Tim Howard, Brad Guzan, Marcus Hahnemann.

DEFENDERS Carlos Bocanegra, Oguchi Onyewu, Jay DeMerit, Jonathan Spector, Jonathan Bornstein, Steve Cherundolo, Clarence Goodson.

MIDFIELDERS Landon Donovan, Clint Dempsey, Stuart Holden, Michael Bradley, Ricardo Clark, Maurice Edu, Benny Feilhaber, DeMarcus Beasley and Jose Francisco Torres.

FORWARDS Jozy Altidore, Edson Buddle, Hercules Gomez and Robbie Findley.

Happy for Robbie Findley... imagine, from TTFF castoff to WC player, talk about sticking it to the TnT selectors.

Where the creativity coming from, Donovan, Dempsey, Torres? Freddy should have been on this side, this team way to safe. We will see what they will do.

Stuart Holden

smiley face notwithstanding, alyuh really doh eat nice... I remember when the big dis was dat USA players couldn't make it in foreign. Now you have half the side playing in top 10 European leagues, man want to complain.

90percent plus of those 23 players were born in the states and honed their skills in the MLS. Not sure why it matters who their parents were. Wouldn't they have learnt their football in the states?

"Haterade" is a matter of perception... in this current anti-immigrant climate which we're seeing in certain parts of the US, I actually find it a bit ironic that the composition of a "national" team would be such a fitting reflection of the US.

I understand.

Other than having a vague idea of some law passed in Arizona I haven't really been paying attention to US politics in a while. The climate's become more anti immigrant than it usually is?

More anti "illegal" immigration... and yes spearheaded by the idiots in Arizona, support for whom seems to be growing, according to some polls.

World Cup 2010: Theo Walcott left out of England squad
Theo Walcott
Walcott - shock inclusion in 2006, shock omission in 2010

Arsenal winger Theo Walcott was the surprise omission from Fabio Capello's 23-man England World Cup squad.

Walcott, 21, who has 11 caps, started both of England's recent friendly victories against Mexico and Japan.

Darren Bent, Adam Johnson, Scott Parker, Michael Dawson, Leighton Baines and Tom Huddlestone also miss out.

Gareth Barry is included after a fitness test on his ankle injury, while Stephen Warnock, Michael Carrick and Ledley King also make the squad.

Walcott was a shock member of former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson's 2006 World Cup squad, having never started a Premier League game but he did not feature in the tournament and the then-17-year-old's inclusion was widely criticised.

PHIL MCNULTY BLOG
Capello has been a big Walcott supporter, but the player's failings were evident against Mexico at Wembley last week

The right winger has since scored three international goals, all coming in a 4-1 World Cup qualifying victory against Croatia in Zagreb on 10 September 2008.

But after suffering with shoulder, back, knee and hamstring problems he has been restricted to 15 starts for Arsenal this term, with his form suffering as a result.

Walcott said in a statement: "I am very disappointed not to be included in the squad going out to South Africa, but completely respect Mr Capello's decision.

"I would like to wish the team the best of luck and hope they have a really successful tournament."

Former England captain Alan Shearer was not surprised by Capello's decision to select tried and tested players to take to South Africa.

"It was inevitable but I think Fabio said some months ago when he first took the job that players must be in form and playing regularly for their clubs," said Shearer.

"Joe Cole isn't playing well and hasn't done for Chelsea and Emile Heskey hasn't played well for Aston Villa but on the other hand I can understand why he has done it because they are tried and trusted in his formation and in his squad."

Reaction - England squad announcement

Tottenham skipper King, 29, has been plagued by a chronic knee problem that restricts his ability to train and play back-to-back games in quick succession.

But after proving his fitness with Spurs towards the end of the seaon, he featured for the first time under Capello against Mexico on 24 May, scoring with a first-half header.

King had previously been named in a Capello squad in March 2009 but withdrew after being assessed by the England medical staff.

Warnock's only England appearance came as an 84th minute substitute in a friendly against Trinidad & Tobago in May 2008.

The Aston Villa defender, 28, has previously played for Liverpool and Blackburn as well as loan spells at Bradford and Coventry, and has been preferred in the squad to Baines, who played against Mexico last week and Egypt in March.

Tottenham defender Dawson and West Ham midfielder Parker did not feature in either of the games against Mexico and Japan while Manchester City winger Johnson only got a run out as a late substitute.

Huddlestone was impressive in Tottenham's midfield as they finished the Premier League in fourth place.

The 23-year-old came on as a substitute against Mexico and started against Japan but did not force his way into the final 23.

Sunderland striker Bent was the third highest scorer in the 2009-10 Premier League season with 24 goals but has also missed out.

And former England winger Chris Waddle admitted Bent's omission was understandable considering the way England play.

"It's hard for Darren Bent," said Waddle.

"He got 23 goals for Sunderland but England always play with a target man so Rooney and Defoe are always ahead of Bent. Barring injury I never thought he'd be on the plane."

Manchester City midfielder Barry, 29, has not played since he picked up a ligament injury in a Premier League match against Tottenham on 5 May and had an extensive test on his injured ankle on Tuesday morning.

ENGLAND SQUAD - MOST CAPPED PLAYERS
Steven Gerrard - 80 caps
Rio Ferdinand - 78 caps
Ashley Cole - 78 caps
Frank Lampard - 78 caps
John Terry - 60 caps
Wayne Rooney - 60 caps
Emile Heskey - 58 caps

Joe Cole is now fully fit after a serious knee ligament injury and produced an impressive second-half cameo during Sunday's 2-1 win against Japan.

And Waddle, who played for England at the World Cup in 1990, said Cole had benefitted from Johnson's inexperience after Capello decided to leave the Manchester City man at home.

"Adam Johnson has played very well," said Waddle.

"He looked very good in the five minutes in the friendly and I think it was between him and Joe Cole and he's gone for Cole."

The World Cup begins on 11 June, with England's first game coming a day later against the United States in Rustenburg.

England's 23-man squad for the World Cup finals:

Goalkeepers: Joe Hart (Manchester City), David James (Portsmouth), Robert Green (West Ham).

Defenders: Jamie Carragher (Liverpool), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Ledley King (Tottenham), John Terry (Chelsea), Matthew Upson (West Ham), Stephen Warnock (Aston Villa).

Midfielders: Gareth Barry (Manchester City), Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Joe Cole (Chelsea), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Aaron Lennon (Tottenham), James Milner (Aston Villa), Shaun Wright-Phillips (Manchester City).

Forwards: Peter Crouch (Tottenham), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham), Emile Heskey (Aston Villa), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United).

I wouldn't say I'm surprised. But I am feeling it for Bent. The man do the work (in the league) and lose out on the reward.  I think that Walcott in 2006 was 4 years too early, and Defoe in 2010 is 4 years too late. But in the end, the squad is still a good one. Who to drop is the type of problem a coach should have.

Apparently walcott failed to follow the game plan against mehico and japan-capello wanted him to take the play to the outside and cross but he kept taking the ball in and losing it. capello called him out in a meeting. I guess capello realized he is a one trick pony who lacks football sense.

Italy keeps Camoranesi despite

ROME -- American-born forward Giuseppe Rossi and AC Milan striker Marco Borriello have been dropped from Italy's World Cup team.

Coach Marcello Lippi also sent home goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu, defender Mattia Cassani and midfielder Andrea Cossu upon announcing his final 23-man team Tuesday.

Giuseppe Rossi was born in New Jersey. But he chose to play for Italy. Jeff Bradley tells his story.

Midfielder Mauro Camoranesi remained in the squad despite injuring his left knee during training Tuesday.

Lippi did not offer any immediate explanation for his choices. He was due to meet with reporters Wednesday.

"Didn't make it, but I have no regrets," Rossi wrote on Twitter. "Worked hard and showed what I could do. I guess the coach had other plans. Good luck Italy."

Rossi was born in New Jersey to Italian parents and has dual citizenship. He played well for Italy at last year's Confederations Cup, scoring twice in the opener against the United States, but struggled during the second half of this season with his Spanish club Villarreal.

"Can't wait to go back home to my family now!!" Rossi wrote. "Gonna enjoy a beautiful summer."

Borriello scored 14 goals for AC Milan this season but plays center forward, a position where Lippi prefers Alberto Gilardino, Vincenzo Iaquinta and Giampaolo Pazzini.

Team physician Enrico Castellacci said Tuesday that tests revealed no tears in Camoranesi's meniscus, adding that "he should be back in a few days. ... We're hoping to get him back for the first game against Paraguay."

Italy opens the World Cup against Paraguay on June 14.

Camoranesi will likely miss friendlies this week against Mexico and Switzerland.

Nine players remain from the team that won the World Cup four years ago in Germany: Gianluigi Buffon, Fabio Cannavaro, Gianluca Zambrotta, Camoranesi, Daniele De Rossi, Gennaro Gattuso, Andrea Pirlo, Alberto Gilardino and Vincenzo Iaquinta.

Fabio Grosso, the left back who converted the decisive penalty kick in the final against France four years ago, had already been cut two weeks ago after being named to the preliminary 30-man squad.

Lippi never even considered picking Antonio Cassano, the talented but temperamental Sampdoria forward, or Mario Balotelli, the controversial 18-year-old Inter Milan striker.

Italy has been training in Sestriere at 2,035 meters (6,670 feet) since May 23 and will depart for South Africa on June 8.

The roster:

Goalkeepers: Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus), Morgan De Sanctis (Napoli), Federico Marchetti (Cagliari).

Defenders: Salvatore Bocchetti (Genoa), Leonardo Bonucci (Bari), Fabio Cannavaro (Juventus), Giorgio Chiellini (Juventus), Domenico Criscito (Genoa), Christian Maggio (Napoli), Gianluca Zambrotta (AC Milan).

Midfielders: Mauro Camoranesi (Juventus), Daniele De Rossi (AS Roma), Gennaro Gattuso (AC Milan), Claudio Marchisio (Juventus), Riccardo Montolivo (Fiorentina), Angelo Palombo (Sampdoria), Simone Pepe (Udinese), Andrea Pirlo (AC Milan).

Forwards: Antonio Di Natale (Udinese), Alberto Gilardino (Fiorentina), Vincenzo Iaquinta (Juventus), Giampaolo Pazzini (Sampdoria), Fabio Quagliarella (Napoli).

Kinda harsh. Listening to BBC earlier the view presented was that Wenger failed him re: playing time and meshing that with injury and U-21 appearances ... under Capello he started to thrive but has had insufficient time to 'get back on track' ... his issue is decison-making (agreed) but one-trick pony? Less sure of that.

A lil bit of luck in his execution and he could have found success versus Mexico ... however he was tentative.

can't believe they stick with shaun wright-phillips, he is a hound.. If it was up to me i was taking Walcott and Huddles and leaving Carrick and SWP home. Walcott still need to grow a brain, but he is a man could be an X factor off the bench, especially against slower wing backs (like when he scored the hat trick against Croatia).

Also i cyah believe Lippi leave Giuseppe Rossi home. Admittedly didn't see much of him at Villareal this year but in the last Confed Cup he was the only man willing to leggo de lion from distance.

Iaquinta?? steups

This is not an Arsenal v United thing. I say he is a one trick pony because all he looks to do is push ball and run by the defender. if a defender size him positionally he is easily nullified becasue he will push the ball and run out of room or the ball will run out of play.  He seem tuh feel that having speed was all he needed, the man has yet to try and find another way to be affective on the pitch. He also seems to lack a football brain- he keeps trying to do the same thing over and over again expecting the same results even when the defender adjust to his attempts. I don't even know if he knows how to play a 1-2. But watch somebody post a vid with him playing a 1-2. Compare him to a player like Lennon who has speed but can also dribble-even though he little erratic he is more effective that Walcott.
