DHAKA—Left-handed stroke-maker Darren Bravo reeled off a pulsating, unbeaten century to catapult West Indies A to a crushing 81-run defeat of South Africa A in the third match of their Tri-Nation Limited Overs match yesterday. Winning the toss and batting, West Indies piled up 295 for five from their 50 overs with the 21-year-old Bravo carving out a superb 107 from 119 balls with 10 fours and a six. In reply, South Africa got off to a good start but were undermined by the pace duo of Lionel Baker and Gavin Tonge, as they crumbled to 214 all out off 44.3 overs at the Shere Bangla National Stadium.

Springer hails squad's maturity
Friday, May 14th 2010

West Indies ’A’ team coach Hendy Springer has lavished praise on the regional squad yesterday after they reeled off their fourth successive win in the Tri-Nations Limited Overs Series against Bangladesh ’A’.

’We are playing very good cricket and I’m pleased with the signs I’m seeing from the players,’ Springer said.

’It is good to win but, along with winning, players are also showing signs of improvement and this is what ’A’ team cricket and development cricket is meant to be all about.

’In the last match against Bangladesh we decided to chase. We went about our business professionally and we were clinical and in the end we won quite comfortably again.’

West Indies ’A’ opened with a victory over South Africa ’A’ last week and beat the young Proteas again earlier this week to maintain their dominance.

The win against Bangladesh was also their second and it earned them a spot in the final against South Africa.

Springer said because the side had done so well, he was able to rotate players.

’We did really well in the preliminary matches, so much so that we were able to rest some players and made sure everyone was able to get a game,’ the former Barbados off-spinner said.

’The pitches here are flat and good for batting but our fast bowlers (Nelon Pascal, Gavin Tonge and Lionel Baker) have been the ones taking the wickets for us so we will go into the final with three fast bowlers.’

Springer said the searing heat had been a concern but he was proud of the way his charges had adjusted.

’Its still very hot (40 degrees Celsius) but the players have displayed great maturity and responsibility in dealing with the situation,’ he pointed out.

’They have been hydrating well and making sure they are ready for what is to come.’
