Should FIFA allow teams who ranked over 50 to host a senior world cup ?

South Africa is currently ranked 83.

What was SA ranked when they were awarded the world cup?

I think they had a really bad run of form which was mostly friendlies over the last 3 years and on top that they didnt even play any qualifiers which of course impacts the rankings highly.

I believe they were awarded in 2004 (I could be wrong about that) and they did make the 1998 and 2002 finals via qualification

The Confederation of African Football announced that the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification would also be the qualification for this tournament. Despite the fact Angola are the host of the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations, they also needed to participate in the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification. A similar situation was true for South Africa. Although they will be the hosts for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, they still needed to compete in the qualification tournament in order to qualify for the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations

They were in a group but did not even qualify for the ANC in Angola
