Portugal's Nani out of World Cup

Portugal winger Nani has been ruled out of the World Cup after suffering a shoulder injury.

"After tests we conclude he is unfit to participate in the World Cup," said a team statement.

Manchester United's Nani picked up the injury in training on Friday in Lisbon before flying to South Africa.

Dani Alves was visibly on edge about gehhin injured during Monday's friendly. Iz more than one time he wanted to dash way ah Tanzanian. On screen he came across as reacting excessively but ... I wasn't the one being tackled late ... who can blame him given all the injuries and the fact that he's so close to the Big Dance.

THEY might be unfancied as a football force at their own World Cup but the South African team are setting the pace in the sexiness stakes.

One of their star players, striker Benni McCarthy, has been punted from the side after he was captured on CCTV taking a woman to his hotel room in the early hours of the morning last week.

Despite being the most successful player in the national side, holding the record for the most goals scored for South Africa at 32 and distinguishing himself with West Ham and Blackburn in the English Premier League, national coach Carlos Perreira had no hesitation in dumping the married McCarthy from the squad.
