I've run 62 and 1:16 flat separately in 500m and 600m runs respectively (all out).
This guy runs 61 and 1:14 and then kicks...unbelievable.

Knew something special was gonna happen after his 45.5 earlier in the year.
Looks like he'll be the first to break the 100 sec barrier for the 800m

That's less than 50s a lap in a two lap race!!
If he does that then I will bet money that he may also be able to medal in the 400m, come World's & Olympics if he trains for it!  ;)

Look like there's a new horse in town whose name is not Usain Bolt!!  ;)
De higher a monkey climbs is de less his ass is on de line, if he works for FIFA that is! ;-)

Purpose is to ensure fast times. Championship running is not Euro running esp in the distances. Most distance records are NOT set in a championship setting

I'm waiting to see the first sub 1:41 next season. Hope he continues to drop his 400 PB (45.50) at the start of next season like he did this year, to help his speed endurance. Incidentally it would be curiously interesting to see him up against Tyson Gay in an early season quarter.

Actually, I would love to see him matched with Usain Bolt at 400 m.  That could be epic if they both trained for it.

Bolt should destroy him in such a contest but sadly, unlike Allyson Felix who actually loves and embraces training for and competing in the 400 even though she also does so in the 100 and 200, Bolt is just not interested in enduring that level of pain at this point

True,

However, Felix is NOT a factor in the 100m. She is NOT that fast.

The question is whether Rudisha can beat Bolt in a 400m?

The analogy with Felix is that Bolt like Felix is a "complete" sprinter. Remember she did win the US 100m crown without Jeter, which at least puts her in the top 3/4 US 100m talent and on any 4x100m they put together; but more importantly they are both fundamentally 200m sprinters with range.

Unlike Bolt, she needs to put in the hard work (100, 400) to beat VCB as she HAS to improve her foot speed yet maintain her speed endurance. Bolt is simply not sufficiently tested at this point, until maybe either Carter or Gay upsets him again within the next 2 years, or 2013 comes when he says he'll give the event consideration.

In my mind though he'll keep "backing" out from the 400m.

No, the real difference is that Bolt is a MASSIVE WR holder in both events. Felix has no WRs and her PBs are significantly below her biggest rivals.

She is a rangey, very useful sprinter but nowhere near as exceptional as the US hype wants to put her.

Go check her PBs and check the wind and then compare her to Jeter and the Jakans for the short sprints and Sanya for the 400!

Bolt is rangy too, like you forget!!
Bolt just afraid of rigging like he did when he ran the 43.6 leg (pain too bad).

A Bolt/Rudisha 400 would not be as one-sided as you guys are trying to make it.  Bolt will lose some of his speed as he works on endurance.  Rudisha will get faster while maintaining his strength. His world record averaged 50 secs per 400.  His opening 400 was mid 40's.  He could go all out from the start unlike an 800 where he has to hold back some for the last 200. I still believe that it would be an unpredictable, exciting match up.  Will Bolt win?  More than likely.  But it would not be a blowout.  Absolutely not!

No my friend it will not be that simple. He does what you say and he will crash and burn like anybody else at the 300m mark. Human phsyiology determines that it is impossible to maintian maximum effort for more that 6-8 seconds. IMO I don't see Rudisha being much faster than 44.4 if he trained for the event. Whereas i see Bolt being capable of running considerably faster than that.

Well, we all have our opinions.  Only a race will prove how much better Bolt would be in such a race...and it probably will never happen. So we can enjoy the prospect in our minds.  Enjoy!

Ah not too sure if Bolt would beat this man easily over 400m yuh know!
Over 600m (if there was such a race) Bolt will definite stand no chance of winning!

This man Rudisha is ah horse, two 800m WR's within the space of a week and the man hardly breeding at the end of the race on his victory lap, a new track star is born!!

Big-up to Kenya who has been churning out World Class long distance runners for decades and now they finally have a sprinter in Kenyan terms (800m is a short sprint in Kenya)!!  ;)

Finally???

Kenya always have good 800m runners. Kipketer was Kenyan that switched to Denmark, for example. Tanui is another that comes to mind. Then you have Koech, Mutua, Yiampoy, Kiplagat, Kimutai, Chirchir, Bungai, Choge, Kiprop and Yego, to give a few more household names in the event.

Kenya had a good 400m runnerin the late 1980s, around the time of the German Schoenlebe and the Naja Innocent Ekbinike. I cant recall his name now though.

Bolt would kill Rudisha over 400m, if they both trained for it. Aviator is correct.

That would be Samson Kitur who edged our own Ian Morris out of a bronze in the 1992 Olympics by a "khhhn". He holds the Kenyan record at 44.18 which incidentally is faster than any English-speaking Caribbean quarter miler has ever run. Only Roberto Hernandez of Cuba (44.14) and Innocent Egbunike of Nigeria (44.17) have run faster as non-Americans.

As for Bolt and the quarter??? Anytime Mills mentions it, his reply is "MEOOWWW"
