Kieron Pollard has flown home to West Indies for a further examination of the right eye he damaged in the Friends Provident t20 final at the Rose Bowl.
The all-rounder was rushed to Southampton Hospital Accident and Emergency Department after being struck by a short ball from Dominic Cork, which pierced the grille of his helmet.
Somerset Director of Cricket Brian Rose also missed the dramatic conclusion to the final because he accompanied Kieron to hospital and stayed there with him until the early hours of the morning.
Brian told somersetcountycc.co.uk: "There was concern about Kieron's eye and an opthalmic expert was summoned to the hospital to examine him.
"It took some time to get the results of the tests, but thankfully they were good and Kieron was told he would be able to fly home to Trinidad.
"The shock of the injury and the severity of it meant he was in a poor state when arriving at hospital and we can only thank all the staff there for their attention.
"I stayed with him throughout, which meant missing the end of the game. It was all very unfortunate and of course we missed Kieron when we came to bowl.
"He has been told to seek another opthalmic examination when he gets home and we shall be in touch to make sure he gets the best possible advice."
As to the extraordinary end to the final when Somerset failed to run out Dan Christian off the final ball when he left his crease to run a leg bye, having summoned a runner because of injury, Brian said he would be holding a meeting with coach Andy Hurry and captain Marcus Trescothick to discuss it.
He added: "We have an important Clydesdale Bank 40 game against Lancashire at Taunton on Monday and the first priority is to make sure the players are in the right frame of mind to win.
"At some stage we will discuss the t20 final and how it ended. But we need to look forward because we are still challenging to win the other two competitions."
