Killer siblings sentenced to prison

After a Brooklyn man turned state’s evidence and testified against his former lover and her brother, a pair of siblings was sentenced this week for murder.

A York County Superior Court judge sentenced Jeffrey Williams of West Hempstead, N.Y., to life in prison and his sister Darlene George to 40 years in back-to-back hearings. The two were previously tried together and convicted in the death of George’s husband, Winston George, who was suffocated to death in 2008 with a rum bottle.

Police say Winston George was tied up at his Old Orchard Beach home in Maine; a rum bottle was shoved down his throat and he suffocated.

Co-defendant Rennie Cassimy, 49, of Brooklyn, pled guilty to conspiracy charges in the case and was sentenced to 20 years in prison, with 12 years suspended, followed by four years of probation.. The plea deal was agreed upon based on his willingness to testify against Williams and George.

Cassimy acknowledged that he was having an affair with George’s wife and that he, Darlene George and Williams planned to kill Winston George and make it look like a home invasion.

Darlene George was reportedly angry that he was having an affair, and didn’t want to lose any stake in their properties if they divorced.

Cassimy told jurors that he and Darlene George were having an affair and that she came up with the plan to kill her husband. Cassimy will likely be deported to his native Trinidad and Tobago after he completes an eight-year sentence.

Dana Gould, an ex-wife of Winston George, described him as a hardworking man who was dedicated to his family and sent money every month to his mother in his native country of Trinidad and Tobago. “A mother who had to bury her son, a mother who had to endure what no mother should have to endure,” Gould said.

George’s 89-year-old mother died a few weeks after the trial ended this summer.

“Mercy is not deserved here today,” Gould said. “There was no mercy shown to Winston.”
