Men's U-20 team off to Venezuela for 4-nation tournament.
By: Shaun Fuentes (TTFF).

National Senior team defender Jovin Jones has been included in Trinidad and Tobago’s National Under 20 team for a tour of Venezuela on Sunday where they will participate in a four-nation  tournament from October 18-25 against the hosts, Costa Rica and Colombia in Puerto Ordaz.

The 20-man squad, coached by Zoran Vranes, includes several experienced players including National Under 20 trio Marcus Joseph,Sheldon Bateau and Akeem Adams who were all members of the T&T team which appeared at the 2009 FIFA Under 20 World Cup in Egypt.

Adams meantime, will join the squad straight out of a trial with Seattle Sounders of the American MLS. Jones is coming off six consecutive appearances for the National Senior team including the 1-0 loss to Jamaica in Kingston on Sunday where he impressed with his intelligent and composed display in the left back position.

“We have a squad that is very capable of doing well especially with some of  the experienced players from the last World Cup,” Vranes told TTFF Media.

“It’s not that we will depend solely on them because some of the other players are also doing well  and putting a lot of effort in the preparations.

This tournament in Venezuela should give us a good idea as to how strong we are right now and then of course we will go straight into the Caribbean qualifiers. The main objective right now is preparation and then of course to move on to the Final round in Concacaf,” he added.

Vranes’ assistants are Hutson Charles and Dale Saunders whileGilbert Bateau is the  trainer and Cheryl Abrams is the manager of the team.

T&T will go into a home and away Caribbean Football Union qualifier with St Vincent and the Grenadines on November 16 (home) and 23 and the winners from that tie will meet the winners of Aruba/Suriname for a spot in the Concacaf Final Round of qualification Meantime, last week Jamaica finished atop Caribbean Group C with three wins in as many games and outscoring its opponents 21-1.

Jamaica now moves on to the Final round in Guatemala along with already qualified teams Canada, USA and Mexico from April 3-7 in 2011. The 2011 FIFA Under 20 World Cup will be held in Colombia.

I know the coach cant call everyone, but what about Jamal Gay, isn't he clubless and could do with a sweat.

Whats the deal with Kevin Molino. ?

Shackiel Henry and Jomal Williams should be included as well.

But good preparations by the TTFF.....  :applause:

This is not the complete squad yet.

Vranes likes to test many different players under battle, and he doh wait for men to stroll in. No pick is guaranteed and men have to work for their bread. Good attributes in a coach.

That said Fredericks, and especially Cato, are surprise omissions. But if you check this squad against the one in Guyana you will see that he brought in a few new players, and dropped some.

Robert Primus and Shahdon Winchester should be included.

Primus will be 20 next month, and Winchester will be 20 in January.
But that'll mean Winchester is still eligible. Cuz Hyland played at the World Cup last year when he was already 20.

Jerrel indicated to me that Shahdon is off to another trial so I guess that's why he not included.
Regarding Cato,he has not been training. He came to 1 session last week.

Changes to U-20 team as they leave today for Venezuela.
« Reply #26 on: October 17, 2010, 05:39:36 AM »
U-20 Soca Warriors off to Venezuela
T&T Guardian Reports.

The trio of St Ann’s Rangers’, defender Akil Clarke, midfielder Donelly Gopicharan of W Connection and Kevin Raymond of Naparima College, have been drafted into a 21-man Soca Warriors Under-20 squad which departs for Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela today from 3 pm.

In Venezuela, the T&T squad will participate in an invitational tournament hosted by the Venezuela Football Federation and involving Cameroon, Nicaragua, Panama, Ecuador and the hosts from October 20-28. Missing out on the trip to Venezuela is senior team defender Joevin Jones of W Connection, who has been allowed to remain home and continue preparations with the senior squad for its Digicel Caribbean Cup Second Round Group F qualifiers here in T&T from November 2–6.

The Zoran Vranes-coached local squad will be using the tournament as part of its preparations for the Caribbean Football Union U-20 Group D home-and-away qualifying series against St Vincent and The Grenadines on November 16 and 23.

The winner of the T&T/St Vincent and The Grenadines series will then meet the winner of the Aruba/Suriname tie for a Concacaf spot. Jamaica won Group C to qualify for the Concacaf qualifiers, while the other CFU groups still to be played are Group A (Cuba, Netherlands Antilles, St Kitts/Nevis and British Virgin Islands) and Group B (Guadeloupe, Bermuda and Antigua & Barbuda). Haiti withdrew from Group B.

In addition to the four CFU group winners, the four second-placed teams in each group will compete in a round-robin series to determine the fifth qualifier for the Concacaf Final Round Championship in Guatemala from April 3–7 next year.

Already qualified for the the final round in Guatemala are Jamaica, Canada, USA and Mexico. Speaking on the eve of the team’s departure Vranes said the tournament will be very good preparation for his team ahead of its CFU meet.

“Generally the team has potential but we have to work on some things to get the players to a level that can make us compete with the best of Concacaf and I think this tournament will give is a very good indication of what level we are on,” he added.

Assistant coach Hutson Charles is also banking on a good showing from the team. “When you compare the other youth teams who have gone to World Cups in the last couple years, you can see that this present team has the potential to qualify for a World Cup also.

“But we need to do some fine tuning. We will not take teams like St Vincent easily and I think it’s works out quite well that we are getting the kind of preparation against teams like Ecuador and Cameroon in the build up to the first round of qualification,” Charles said.

T&T U-20 squad: John Thomas (Joe Public), Jamaal Francois (San Juan Jabloteh), Jerron Quashie (Stokely Vale), Dinelle Lopez (St Augustine SC), Dwight Ceballo (Ma Pau), Akeem Adams (W Connection), Joshua Bachan (Shiva Boys), Sheldon Bateau (San Juan Jabloteh), Marcus Joseph (Joe Public), Jerrel Britto (San Juan Jabloteh), Johan Peltier (San Juan Jabloteh), Jerron Morris (Defence Force), Kenaez Williams (Joe Public), Brandon Simpson (Joe Public), Vernell Ramirez (San Juan Jabloteh), Reshard Wint (Police), Ross Russell Jr (Defence Force), Kevin Raymond (Naparima College), Stephen Kerr (Trincity Nationals), Donelly Gopicharan (W Connection), Akil Clarke (St Ann’s Rangers).

Technical staff: Zoran Vranes (coach), Hutson Charles (assistant), Dale Saunders (assistant), Cheryl Abrams (manager), Gilbert Bateau (trainer), Adisa Davis (physio), Michael Williams (equipment manager).
