Men's Senior Team to open DCC Group 'F' against St. Vincent
TTFF Media

Trinidad and Tobago’s Men’s Senior team will come up against Guyana, St Vincent and the Grenadines and Haiti in Group F action of the final qualifying stage for the Digicel Caribbean Cup in Martinique in December.

And local fans will get to see the Russell Latapy-coached team in regional action from November 2 when they come up against St Vincent from 7pm at the Hasely Crawford Stadium. The game will be the second of  a double header with Guyana facing Haiti from 5pm. T&T will then meet Guyana on November 4 and Haiti two days later with the top two finishers advancing to the Finals in Martinique. From there the top four placed teams will move on to the prestigious Concacaf Gold Cup in the United States in mid-2011.

Guyana sealed their berth in the final qualifying stage with a 2-0 victory over Suriname on the weekend through goals by Walter Moore and Devon Millington in a game which involved three T&T officials in referee Lee David and assistants Dion Neil and Ainsley Rochard.

St Vincent meantime topped Montserrat 7-0 and drew 1-1 and 0-0 respectively with St Kitts/Nevis and Barbados.

If T&T tops the upcoming group F, they could end up in the same group as hosts Martinique in the Finals in December.

The T&T team resumed training at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on Monday following their return from Kingston last week where they lost 1-0 to Jamaica.

“It’s been clear over the past few months that our focus has been the Digicel Cup and we will continue to prepare with that in mind. There are a lot of things we’ve looked at in the recent matches which has given us an idea as to where we’re at as a team right now and what we need to do for the Finals of the Digicel Cup. We don’t want to be peaking at the wrong time. I was quite please with some of the things in the Jamaica game but now we have a qualifying group stage to take care of and we will approach these three matches knowing that a place in the Finals is at stake,” Latapy told TTFF Media.

Team captain Clyde Leon meantime said he was certain that the team could top the upcoming group.

“We don’t want to be over confident because Haiti is always a decent team that never fails to give a fight. We were very unfortunate not to get the victory in Guyana last time when we hit the post three times and we know what St Vincent has to offer. At the same time we do not intend to underestimate any of these three teams. But I believe if we continue to make the kind of progress we’ve had especially in the last Jamaica match then the results will come in a positive manner for us,” Leon told TTFF Media.
The Conquering Lion of Judah shall break every chain.

Apparently, they're doing well in Brazil. They recently won two games 2-0 and 1-0 against second division clubs in Brazil. However, I have no idea how strong they are as I haven't seen them in action since the trashing in Argentina.

They will probably bring a mix of local and foreign players, mostly guys from the USL/MLS.

Based on the players' selection for the camp in Brasil and what the Brazilian coach has said, I expect a more physical team.

I watched Guyana and SVG, they are definitely weaker than they were a few years ago. I do not expect them to cause much trouble.
