PSV 10-0 Feyenoord
The Philips Stadion was the venue for Feyenoord's thumping by hosts PSV. Feyenoord last time out were narrowly beaten by Twente, and started brightly against PSV but it was a day of damage limitation for the Rotterdam club and they didn't do a good job.
PSV strolled to victory against ten men with Jonathan Reis continuing his fine spell of scoring in what turned out to be a day to forget for the men in yellow.
Jonathan Reis scored his first ever hat-trick in senior football, as PSV equalled their scoring record for the fourth time in their history. The last 10-0, in 1998 against FC Volendam.
The visitors were forced into making a first-half change. Captain Leroy Fer stretching to control a ball over the top and he injured himself in the attempt. El Ahmadi replaced him with just over ten minutes on the clock.
Ola Toivonen came close to break the deadlock but his shot deflected just wide of the keepers right post.
Georgino Wijnaldum tested Isakkson in he PSV goal twice in a matter of minutes, the second time showing great skill to lose his marker before drilling it from distance but it was comfortable for the keeper.
Dzsudzsak looked very threatening early on for the hosts, sailing a wicked shot a fraction wide of the post, then Johanthan Reis couldn't keep his header down beating everyone to the near post.
It was just minutes later though before the hosts had the lead and it was a Brazilian touch of class. Jonathan Reis turning and being allowed to arrow his shot from distance into the corner of the net.
It got worse for Feyenoord as PSV grew in confidence. Erik Pieters came forward from defence and was brought down from behind by Kelvin Leerdam, who had already been given a yellow and received a second.
Before half-time PSV all but sealed the game. Ibrahim Afellay released Jeremain Lens who went one way then the other, but the striker was forced to turn and fed back Afellay who drilled low to make it two.
Andre Bahia wasted a good chance for the men in yellow just before half-time. The defender stayed in the PSV box after a corner and under no pressure guided his header back towards the corner flag.
The second-half started much the same way as the first ended for PSV. Good work from Afellay allowed Atiba Hutchinson time to pick his cross and it was Jonathan Reis who sent a bullet of a header home.
It was four and the visitors couldn't even sigh. Afellay again the architect this time down the right and he whipped an inviting cross to the back post giving Ola Toivonen the easiest of jobs to steer his header inside the post.
PSV refused to take their foot of the pedal and with 35 minutes still left on the clock Jermaine Lens scored his first goal on home soil. The striker evaded two defenders with his first touch to take him into the box and the second he placed low beyond Rob Van Dijk.
The next was a milestone, Jonathan Reis completing his first ever senior hat-trick. The Brazilian broke the offside trap and burst in on goal before confidently finishing. The young Brazilian looked delighted after a troublesome start to his career.
Balazs Dzsudzsak managed to get in on the act. The Hungarian using his deadly left foot to guide his effort into the bottom right corner from twenty yards, heaping misery on Feyenoord.
The action was non-stop and unfortunately for Feyenoord all in their half. Orlando Engelaar made matters even worse. The big defender grabbed his second of the season, rising high above the rest to power his header in off the underside of the bar for the eighth of the game.
Erik Pieters broke down the left as Feyenoord began to pray for full-time, and the defender was brought down for a penalty. It was Balazs Dzsudzsak who stepped up and converted his fourth penalty of the season.
Toivonen should have made it double figures with still over ten minutes remaining. The big striker was left with an open goal but failed to make a proper connection and the ball trickled desperately wide.
Finally PSV hit the landmark, Jermaine Lens grabbing his second of the day. The striker was unmarked at the far post and drilled a half-volley low past the keeper. An amazing end for the hosts, who stayed on the field to thank the fans. This will be a result talked about for a long long time.
