Gregory Isaacs dies
BBC Caribbean

Reggae legend Gregory Isaacs has died after a battle with cancer.

Isaacs, who was 59 years old, died on Monday morning at his home in London where he spent part of his time.

He leaves behind a wife and children.

Close friends told BBC Caribbean that he had originally been diagnosed with cancer of the liver which had then spread.

The Jamaican reggae singer, who was nicknamed the Cool Ruler, was best known for the song 'Night Nurse'.

Earlier this year, the reggae legend was featured in the BBC's Caribbean Masters series.

Was driving when I heard the news on the radio and immediately reached for one of Mr. Issacs' selections to blast in respect. I was a minute away from my destination so when ah geh back in de car it's going to be ON!!!

Cyah wait. No speech, no language.

Cool Ruler!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RIP sah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Thanksgiving Service to celebrate the life of Reggae star, Gregory Isaacs, will take place at the National Indoor Sports Centre on Saturday, November 20, starting at 10:00 a.m.

Viewing of Gregory’s body will take place at the same venue the day before the funeral between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.   

The body of the legendary Reggae artiste who died in England on October 25, 2010, will be flown to Jamaica on Thursday, November 11, 2010.

Youth, Sports and Culture minister Olivia Grange said her ministry will be assisting the Isaacs family with the arrangements for the Thanksgiving Service being planned.

The theme for the Service is Red Rose for Gregory. Persons attending are being asked to take along a red rose and to wear black or white or a combination and to be seated by 9:30 a.m.
