Jones aiming to put record straight at Cardiff
By Martin Spinks (The Sentinel)

KENWYNE Jones wants revenge for his frustrating goalmouth miss when Stoke cross swords with Cardiff again in tonight's FA Cup third-round replay (7.45pm).

Stoke head to South Wales after Jones and Co missed a catalogue of second-half chances in the first meeting 10 days ago.

Jones went closest after smashing one against goalkeeper David Marshall from close range when he seemed certain to score.

"I don't think he knew anything about it. It hit him in the face," said Jones.

"In that respect it was bad luck and it was devastating it didn't go in.

"On a Tuesday night, no-one wants to go on a long journey, especially after the schedule we've had."

Jones says he isn't worried which team start as favourites tonight for the right to travel to either Wolves or Doncaster in the fourth round.

"We just have to concentrate on getting through to the next round," he said.

"We need to go down there and try to put things away this time."

The Trinidadian international insisted he both understands and shares the British affection for the FA Cup in an age when many say it has become de-valued.

"Everyone has their reason to love the cup," said the 26-year-old former Sunderland hitman.

"It's part of football history, part of the furniture of football, so there is going to be excitement and nostalgia.

"The furthest I have got is the quarter-finals with Southampton, but reaching Wembley is all everyone talks about. It's very special."

Goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen, full-back Danny Collins and midfielder Glenn Whelan are on stand-by for duty tonight, while young right-back Ryan Shotton has been told he definitely starts after impressing on his Britannia debut in the original 1-1 draw.

The Conquering Lion of Judah shall break every chain.

Jones was not considered in Stoke City 2-0 win over Cardiff today....  8)
