PitchVision cricket technology comes to T&T.
By: Vinode Mamchan (Guardian).

Elite cricket technology has come to Trinidad and after along wait local cricketers now have top notch technology available to improve their game and take it up to world standard.

A young entrepreneur from Princes Town by the name of Duane Zaheer Lall decided he wanted to make a difference in the performance of local athletes and set up a company called Novel Sports who is now introducing to cricketers in Trinidad and Tobago the high tech system called PitchVision.

The young engineer who is attached Process Management Ltd in Couva have been able to source the technology and is now the only licensed supplier of the product in the Caribbean.

Speaking to Trinidad Guardian Lall said: “I always wanted to play cricket at the top level and when I realised this may not happen, I did the next best thing. I got myself submersed in the technology and now I can make a contribution to the development of young cricketers and cricketers on the whole.”

Lall and his partner Derry Ramjattan then went full speed ahead in developing two indoor nets at Naparima College and opened in mid December, allowing some 30 teams from all cricket levels to use the facility for their training needs. Among the teams using the facility was the national senior team prior to the regional T20 series in Antigua and Barbados. Lall continued: “We at Novel Sports would like to promote the development of cricket and other sports through technology and education.

“Making “elite” level training available and affordable to all would definitely aid in achieving this goal. Teams have also been exposed to the PitchVision cricket technology system through demonstrations and actual use of the system for their team analysis during the session. “Many teams visiting; for some; the first time experiencing an indoor facility and being exposed to global cricket technology PitchVision, as well as, slow motion video analysis. Many have also just simply used the opportunity at nights to end a hard day’s work with cricket in a secure environment

“Introducing technology in sporting disciplines can be one of the best initiatives one can do to encourage and develop athletes. Knowing that every second, every ball, every stride counts in sport can only allow athletes to become conscious that technology can assist them achieve their goals to out-perform their competitors.

“Elite level training demands that athlete minimise their risk of injuries, improve performance, reduce work-loads, become consistent and increase accuracy. Science and technology can aid in this goal. By introducing slow motion analysis, athlete performance monitoring and other techniques a coach can develop training goals and schedules based on parameters of workloads rather than time based. That is to say, do not train past your limit.

Athletes have varying biological, physiological and psychological limits that must be discovered and understood for them to maximise their sporting career. By introducing these concepts to training one can even develop a more holistic appreciation to sport and contribute to their own mental preparation.

“The mental preparation for sport is critical for success. 90 per cent mental and ten per cent skill; but what is done to encourage this 90 per cent development? Having data available for review off the field on your performance can aid in this important skill. Replaying video and performing motion analysis also encourages the mind to visualise your performance and improvements.

Technology allows us to explore and discover athletic potential and unearth ability within that would normally be masked by the craving for technical dominance.” Novel Sports intends to also introduce technology in football, tennis, track & field, rowing, horse racing, golf, rugby, basketball, gymnastics, fitness training, badminton, volleyball, olympic sports, cycling, hiking and many more.

They are into training, health & fitness, injury recovery, monitor performance, identify strengths and weaknesses, planning next training sessions, review past training sessions, live feedback of data, coaching and many more.

sweet!!
Perhaps the epitome of a Trinidadian is the child in the third row class with a dark skin and crinkly plaits who looks at you out of decidedly Chinese eyes and announces herself as Jacqueline Maharaj.- Merle Hodge
