Molino latest addition to Lions.
orlandocitysoccer.com.

Orlando City Soccer Club is proud to announce the signings of Trinidadian international midfielder Kevin Molino and former Houston Dynamo player Erik Ustruck to multi-year contracts, pending USSF approval.

Molino joins the Lions fresh off the 2010-2011 Digicel Pro League season in Trinidad and Tobago where he won the Toyota Classic, Trinidad and Tobago’s national championship tournament, with Ma Pau SC.

The 20-year-old has spent his entire professional career in Trindad, beginning with San Juan Jabloteh in 2008 before moving to Ma Pau when he was just 18 years old.

Molino has made four appearances for the Trinidad and Tobago Senior National Team, most recently at the 2010 Caribbean Championship. Fellow Trinidadian international Devorn Jorsling joined Orlando City in January.

“It’s a great feeling joining the team,” said Molino. “This is the first team I’ve played on outside of Trinidad. It’s been a great experience so far.”

“Kevin is someone I’ve known about personally for two or three years,” said Head Coach Adrian Heath. “He’s just 20 years old, already on the national team, and is already known as one of the most exciting talents they’ve had in a long, long time. I’m really excited about what he can develop into. We’re really excited to have him on board.”

Molino made his first appearance for Orlando City late in the match against BK Häcken on March 5th. He injected energy into the team and helping to spark Lewis Neal’s goal in the 75th minute.

Ten days later, Molino registered his first start against Rollins College. He recorded his first assist of the preseason with a nifty pass to Max Griffin, who scored the first of the Lions’ three goals in victory over the Tars.

Ustruck played his college soccer at Santa Clara University. While in college he made seven appearances for the US Under-20 National Team. Ustruck began his professional career in 2007 when he was drafted by the Houston Dynamo in the 2007 MLS Supplemental Draft.

In 2009, Ustruck was loaned to the Austin Aztex where he played under current Lions Head Coach Adrian Heath. After being released by Houston early in the 2010 season, Ustruck joined FC Tampa Bay. After five appearances with FCTB, his promising season was cut short by a broken leg.

“He’s all fit and ready now. We tried to get him last year [when Heath was with the Austin Aztex] before he signed with Tampa. We’re really pleased to have him on board. He’s a great teammate and we know he’ll be a great fit for us.”

A versatile midfielder, Ustruck will be capable of playing multiple positions for Orlando City. In his pro career, he has been used predominantly as a defender, but played both as a midfielder and forward in college.
The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

Molino's first goal of the season earns three points for the Lions

Early goal keeps City unbeaten at home
By Adam Soucie (orlandocitysoccer.com)

ORLANDO – Orlando City (5-1-1, 16 points) remained undefeated at home with a 1-0 win over the visiting Pittsburgh Riverhounds (1-3-2, 5 points).  The win extends City’s unbeaten streak to six games overall, and is the Lions third consecutive victory.

Trinidadian international Kevin Molino got the Lions off to a dream start in the third minute when he took a Yordany Alvarez pass in-between two defenders and fired home his first goal of the season.  From that point, City was in complete control.  The Lions dominated possession and outshot the ‘Hounds seven to two in the first half.

Pittsburgh’s defense was dealt a serious blow in the 30th minute when Shintaro Harada, the reigning USL-2 defender of the year, was forced out of the match with an injury.  Devorn Jorsling looked capitalize on Harada’s absence and join his countryman Molino on the score sheet, but saw his two close chances go just wide thanks to fantastic efforts by Pittsburgh keeper Hunter Gilstrap.

The second half was much of the same for the Lions as they continued to dominate possession, but could not find the back of the net.  In all, City outshot Pittsburgh 17-5, with all three of Pittsburgh’s second half shots coming in the final five minutes.  For the second straight match, and third time this season, City received a man advantage late in the game.  Pittsburgh’s Kyle Veris was sent off following a dangerous challenge on Erik Ustruck.  Veris was already carrying a yellow card from earlier in the match.

5,876 soggy fans braved the thunderous weather to see the victorious Lions.  The fans did not seem to mind the weather, and it actually had a positive impact on City’s play.

“The rain made the pitch quicker,” said Head Coach Adrian Heath.  “It helped out our team as a whole, allowed us to take advantage of our speed.”

Next up for Orlando City is a two match road trip.  It begins on Friday, May 20, in Rochester, NY, against CEO Steve Donner’s former club, the Rochester Rhinos.  Before returning to Orlando, the Lions will make a stop in Harrisburg, PA to play the Harrisburg City Islanders.  Both matches will be available for viewing on USL Live.

City returns home on May 25th to face league-leading Richmond.  The Lions will try to avenge their only loss of the season on Military Night.  Mayor Buddy Dyer will be inducting future soldiers into the US Army during halftime.  To order tickets, call 407-536-5368 or visit www.orlandocitysoccer.com.
