Fun, sun and lots of soccer for Braves
bradleybraves.com

Bradley’s soccer team will play five international games as part of a 10-day trip to the Caribbean island nation of Barbados. The Braves will depart May 22 and return May 31.

Bradley will participate in a FIFA Pre-World Cup 2014 event with the senior national teams from Barbados, Dominica, Grenada and St. Vincent, as well as Under-23 national teams from Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago. The event field also may include teams from Cuba and St. Maarten.

The Braves are scheduled to play games May 23, 25, 27, 28 and 30.

“We are incredibly excited about the upcoming trip to Barbados,” BU coach Jim DeRose said in a press release. “While it is certainly always fun for the players to travel abroad, this opportunity is very unique. Traditionally a foreign trip consists of matches versus varying levels of professional teams and amateur clubs. Participating in a tournament that features full national teams that will actually have the chance to compete for a birth in a World Cup makes this incredibly special.”

In addition to the games that will be played at the National Stadium in Waterford, St. Michael, Barbados, the Braves will have the opportunity to participate in several organized activities throughout the trip, which will include a catamaran cruise with the option to snorkel at a shipwreck site, a zip line tour of the Barbados jungle and an island safari.

“While the soccer is the main reason for the trip, the cultural opportunities and the recreation will be a once-in-a lifetime opportunity for many of our student-athletes,” DeRose said.

“Barbados has a great history and a natural beauty that we look forward to experiencing and learning as much as possible.”

Bradley on Saturday concluded its spring exhibition schedule. The Braves went 4-1-3. They allowed only two goals in 580 total minutes (0.31 goals-against average).
