West Ham target released Bolton wing-back Samuel
« on: July 04, 2011, 12:58:42 PM »
West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce hopes to snap up Bolton Wanderers wing-back Jlloyd Samuel.

The Mirror says Allardyce wants to agree a deal for 30-year-old Samuel – who is a free agent after being released by Wanderers boss Owen Coyle – and he could join the ex-Reebok colony at Upton Park.

Trinidad and Tobago international Samuel signed for Bolton under Gary Megson’s management.

But Allardyce knows him from his time at his former club and also when the defender started at Aston Villa.

Jlloyd Samuel signs for West Ham

Allardyce signs another ex-Bolton contingent for West Ham
By Tom Hopkinson (The People)

SAM ALLARDYCE has upped the ex-Bolton contingent at WEST HAM by signing Jlloyd Samuel.

The 30-year-old spent last week training at the club’s Chadwell Heath complex and impressed Allardyce sufficiently to be offered a deal by the Hammers.

Left-back Samuel was a free agent after his four-year deal at the Reebok expired. He was loaned to Cardiff in March, but only played six games for the Bluebirds.

Leeds boss Simon Grayson had showed an interest in Samuel, but Allardyce stepped in and the player will be reunited with his former manager, and another of his old team-mates, Kevin Nolan.

Big Sam jetted to France last night to look at the Gabon international Eric Mouloungui. The 27-year-old was due to be in action for Nice against Udinese in a friendly game.

The Hammers chief is still looking to strengthen his attack and he is keeping an eye on El Hadji Diouf’s future at Blackburn.

For a relegated team West Ham certainly being proactive in their outlook.  I was surprised to see Kevin Nolan spurn New Castle (where he was captain, no less) to go sign for a freshly relegated Championship team.  I hope Jlloyd signs with them and do well so that both he and team returns to the Premiership next season.

...as for Bolton, sad to see Lee Chung-Yon suffer a double lower leg fracture over the weekend.  Just like that man season over.  Initial word is that he's out at least 9 months... hopefully he pull a Valencia and come back sooner than expected, and at the same high level he played before.

Jlloyd now a West Ham player

Sam Allardyce has upped the ex-Bolton contingent at West Ham United by signing Soca Warriors left back Jlloyd Samuel. The 30-year-old San Fernando-born Samuel spent last week training at the club’s Chadwell Heath complex and impressed Allardyce sufficiently to be offered a deal by the Hammers.

Left-back Samuel was a free agent after his four-year deal at the Reebok expired. He was loaned to Cardiff in March, but only played six games for the Bluebirds. The manager revealed that his squad are raring to go for the 1pm kick-off on Sunday. He updated on the latest regarding England trio Robert Green, Scott Parker and Carlton Cole, and explained just why he has faith in new recruits like Matt Taylor and Kevin Nolan to deliver success. Trialists Jlloyd Samuel and Mikael Forssell have both left the club.

Good point . what is the excuse ?

we need more talented defenders in teh team from de beginning of the campaign so de chemistry will be there from the beginning. As of right now ah could only think of about three foreign defenders who playing consistently for dem clubs. and ah not too confident with most of the defenders our Pro League has to offer.

Jlloyd doesnt want to risk getting injured before securing a new club.  As soon as he gets a deal that is right for him and his family, he will don the red white and black.

He is committed to TnT, but he is 30 yrs old and needs to secure what would be his "final" major deal.

He has been abroad on trials (Germany and Greece) but talks broke down in Germany when it came to sorting out personal terms.

There is plenty interest abroad, and he is just considering his options.  I get the impression that he rather play abroad and get a 3 or 4 year deal, than be a back up LB in the Premiership with a 1 or 2 year deal.

He sends his good luck to the team in today's game!!

I understand what you are saying Andre, but you could get injured in training too.

Samuel should have came for the games for T&T, that would have help his case, playing for international teams is a plus, your status goes up.

Playing for TnT against Bermuda will NOT help his case Sam, he doesn't need caps or anything like that.  Playing for Trinidad doesn't help his status.  He is not a conference player or anything like that, he has over 225 appearances in the premier league.

He just wants to secure his future, that's all.  He wants to play for Trinidad, but his family's future comes first.

He was released from the trial at Leeds when he picked up an injury, so he is just mindful of the possibilities.

I will reveal more when i can
