Pres leave it late in South.
By Nigel Simon (Guardian).

Shackiel Henry and Amare Thomas scored in time as Presentation College left it late before securing a 2-0 victory over cellar-place St Benedict’s College in their South Zone BGTT/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League clash on Saturday.

This was in the second match of a double-header at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.

Going into the match, Presentation, which started today on 12 points, had a chance to regain top spot on the seven-team table after previous leader and defending champion Naparima (13 points) was blanked 2-0 by Pleasantville Secondary (14 pts).

However, chances seemed to have eluded Presentation until a minute into injury time when former national Under-17 striker Henry fired in from close range to snatch all three points with his seventh goal of the season.

Amare Thomas then added another almost from the restart to seal a 2-0 triumph over struggling St Benedict’s which is bottom of the table with only a point. Presentation now leads with 15 points, one ahead of Pleasantville.

In the first match at Marabella, Ken Khan (42nd) and Keion Thomas (62nd) got a goal each as Pleasantville in its win over Naparima while Rondell Phillip’s 74th minute free-kick earned Vessigny a 1-0 upset of Princes Town West.

Over in Tobago, Speyside picked up its first point of the season after a convincing 4-1 whipping of Pentecostal Light & Life in the second match at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet. Matches continue in all five zones on Wednesday.

Carapichaima surges to top.
T&T Guardian Reports.

Defending champion Carapichaima East Secondary moved to the top of the table on goal-difference in the Central Zone after a 2-0 win away to Tabaquite while Couva West was upstaged by Gaparillo 1-0.

Christopher Prime and Kadeem scored a goal each for Carapichaima East to register its fourth win from as many matches this season, and  remain only one of two teams with 100 per cent winning records.

Carapichaima now has 12 points, the same as Couva West, but a better goal-difference of plus-15 to plus-eight and two matches in hand.

At Gasparillo, Trifon Browne’s first-half item was enough for the home side to get past Couva West 1-0 while Presentation College got it second win over pointless Waterloo Secondary, 3-0.

Benjamin stuns Signal Hill

Brandon Benjamin scored a goal on either side of the interval as Speyside Secondary pulled off a 2-1 upset win over reigning Tobago Zone champion, Signal Hill at Speyside.

Coming off a 2-2 draw with rival, Scarborough Secondary Signal Hill was hopeful of getting back on winning track.

However, ten minutes before half-time Benjamin netted for the host to lead 1-0 and five minutes into the second-half he added another as Signal Hill found itself in a 0-2 hole.

However, the zonal champion, which also trailed Scarborough 2-0 on Saturday, managed to cut the lead in the half on the hour mark thanks to Makeil McKenzie.

But in the end Speyside, held on for its most famous win in school history which allowed Scarborough, 3-1 victors over Mason Hall at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet to open a three point lead at the top with 13 points from five matches.

Valdez Perez (12th), Shaquille Scott (28th) and  national Under-17 defender Dario Holmes (31st)  netted in the in the first-half while Makeil Mc Kenzie got on target for Mason Hall in the 56th minute.

Down South, leader Presentation College (16 pts) was held to a 1-1 draw by Shiva Boys’ in the first match of a double-header at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella while title holder Naparima College also moved to 16 points after a 2-1 win over Princes Town West.

St Benedict’s got  its first win of the season, 1-0 over Vessigny thanks to Yafeu Rougier strike in the other match.

Quintero’s double helps El Do stop Trinity.
By Rachael Thompson-King (Guardian).

Dwight Quintero emerged the star player for El Dorado East Secondary as his two goals came off blunders by opposing goalkeeper Romario Romaine, which helped his team seal a 3-0 win over Trinity College East in the East Zone in the BGTT/First Citizen Secondary Schools Football League, yesterday.

This was in the opening match of a double-header played at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Malabar, Arima.

Play in the first half was evenly matched until Quintero scored the opener a minute before halftime. He completed the goal after Romaine was unable to hold on to the ball despite a brilliant save moments before.

Bethelmy, who is El Do’s second leading goal-scorer with six behind teammate Shaquille Bertrand [8], got the Blue Thunder’s second item, 19 minutes into the second session, connecting a penalty.

Quintero’s second item was similiar to his first with keeper Romain again being unable to secure the ball properly and the former managed to slip the ball past him off the rebound.

Quintero remains the third highest scorer for “El Do” with his double moving his tally of goals to five. Over in Toco, the hosts held San Juan North, to a 2-2 draw.

Tigers triumphs over Fatima.
By: Andrew Gioannetti & Liam Gordon (Guardian).

St Anthony’s College remain on top of the BGTT First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League, following their 2-0 win over Fatima College at St Anthony’s Ground, Westmoorings, yesterday.

The hosts took the lead in the 20th minute when Darryl Trim capitalised on a poor defensive clearance to finish easily past John Barclay in goal for Fatima, for his fifth goal of the season.

After St Anthony’s took the lead, the team began to build momentum and focussed on maintaining possession and were awarded near to the end of the first half when Kyle Pierre was brought down by a harsh challenge inflicted by Fatima’s Kieran Matthews in the penalty area.

Stepping up to take the penalty, Dwight Ceballo converted past Barclay, despite the goalkeeper correctly anticipating the direction of the shot. Leading 2-0 into the second half, the “Tigers” remained comfortable on the ball, forcing Fatima in their half for the majority of the match.

Not many more opportunities arose for the home side and the score remained 2-0 for St Anthonys which recorded their eighth win in as many matches, staying perfect along with Carapichaima from the Central Zone.

In the other matches, Alvin Jones got his second goal of the season in the final minute of play from the penalty spot, to give his East Mucurapo team the 2-1 home win over St Mary’s, to stay five points behind St Anthony’s.

Mucurapo’s top scorer Aaqil Campbell was again on target, when he netted in the 57th minute to open for the school.  Anthony Palmer equalised for St Mary’s in the 76th minute, but it was not enough to avoid dropping the Saints to their fifth loss of the season.

QRC and Malick settled for a point in a 1-1 draw in the other fixture. Akil Morris’ opening item in the first minute of play, put him on eight goals for the season. Lester Durham scored for Malick two minutes before the half.

St Francois lifts North title again.
T&T Guardian Reports.

St Francois Girls College lifted their second consecutive North Zone league title in the BGTT First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) with a 7-2 thrashing of St Joseph Convent on Sunday.

The match was played at St Joseph Convent Ground, St Clair, in front of a sizable support for both teams. Diamond Small scored a hat-trick to take her season tally to 10 goals, while Astride Joseph netted a double, together with single items from Della Joseph and Dhaakira Solomon. Amanda Garcia scored two goals for the second placed St Joseph team.

At half-time, the Belmont school were 5-0 up on their nearest challengers in the league, putting them comfortably in the drivers seat to lifting another North Zone title.

St Francois made their debut in the North Zone Girls Championship last season, taking the North Zone league title, the North East Intercol title, then to be defeated in the National finals to South Zone’s Debe Secondary.

It is also the second consecutive year in which the Jason Spencer coached team won the north Zone title with a match to spare.

After taking over the team in 2008, he won the Under-15 Division knock-out title in the same year, before leading an Under-19 team to a SSFL Senior Division North Zone league title in 2009.

In 2009 the team also won the North Zone knock-out title in the Senior Division, and then went on to win the National Title. St Francois were promoted to the Championship Division in the following season, when they began their dominance in the North Zone.

After going down 3-1 to St Joseph Convent in the first match of the season, St Francois recovered to win their following eight matches, which only one (against Maple Leaf) was won by default.

In the East Zone, El Dorado were 3-1 winners over St George’s College, thanks to a Patrice Campbell double and an own goal. Kadisha De Freitas scored the consolation for St George’s. St Augustine were also winners, 2-1 over Arima North.

El Dorado remain trailing St Augustine by two points, but remain with a match in hand and will have the opportunity to take the zonal title with wins in their following two matches.

St Augustine will play their final match of the zone against fifth placed St George’s on Thursday. El Dorado will play a rescheduled match against St George’s today, before playing their final league match against Toco on Thursday.
The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

Arima, El Do play to goalless draw.
By Rachael Thompson-King (Guardian).

There was little change in the standings after yesterday’s round of matches in the East Zone of the BGTT/First Citizen Secondary Schools Football League.

The highly-anticipated match between group leader Arima North Secondary and second spot El Dorado, ended in a goalless draw in Arima. With the points being shared, Arima remains on top of the table by goal-difference while still being tied on points (18) with the “Blue Thunder”.

A much improved Barataria South team still under to San Juan North, by a 4-1 margin. Mikhil Roberts netted a double in the 55th and 77th minutes for the winner which also had Cory Dhanilal (29th) and Trevon Lester (60th), each netting a goal for San Juan.

Jelani Carr (85th) scored a consolation goal for Barataria five minutes before time expired. Over in Toco, Nathan Regis produced a brace to earn his Trinity College East its second win of the season, 2-0 against Toco. The victory moved them one spot up the standings to fifth place which was previously held by Toco.

East Mucurapo stays in hunt.
By Andrew Gioannetti (Guardian).

East Mucurapo remains alive in the chase for the North Zone title in the BGTT First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) with a 3-1 win over Trinity at Trinity Ground, Moka, yesterday.

Alvin Jones opened with a penalty in the first half, which was cancelled out by a Dominic Jangoo goal, as the two teams remained level 1-1 at the half. Mucurapo top scorer Akil Campbell took the lead early in the second half, before Kevin Lewis scored the winner to give the school the chance to go back on top.

Mucurapo still trails St Anthony’s by four points. St Anthony’s, however, has three matches to play compared to East Mucurapo which has two left.

Fatima College scored two goals in the second half from Keiron Matthews (62nd) and Jamil Young (76th) respectively to brace a winless Malick 2-0.

In the other fixture, St Mary’s took an early lead from Jelani Christopher in the ninth minute, a lead which would last to the half. QRC were defiant and found the leveller in the 62nd minute from the league’s leading goal-scorer Akil Morris.

QRC had chances to take the lead through Morris, who squandered several opportunities, as the two teams split the points. All schools’ positions in the standings remained unmoved other than for QRC which overtook Trinity in fifth place on goal difference.

Caps hit Waterloo for a dozen.
By Nigel Simon (Guardian).

Denzil Gill netted a beaver-trick and Shaquille Holder a hat-trick as Carapichaima East slammed Waterloo 12-0 to stay top of the Central Zone on goal difference from Couva West.

Gill found the target in the 11th, 38th, 48th and  55th minute while Holder netted in the 12th, 76th, 86th at the Carapichaima. Kareem Boyce added a double while Sebastian Kumar, Jerid Nichols and a Randolph Boyce own goal completed the tally for reigning champion Carapichaima, now with maximum 18 points from six matches, the same as Couva West Secondary which has played two matches more and who it faces on Saturday.

Couva West stayed in the title mix thanks to a  hat-trick from striker Jaffet Williams in a 3-1 triumph away to Presentation College of Chaguanas while Tabaquite and Gasparillo drew 1-1.

Shiva Boys’, P’ville stay in hunt
Shiva Boys’ and Pleasantville Secondary kept in the hunt for the South Zone title after contrasting wins. In the first match of a double-header at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella, Shiva Boys’ captain Tevin Peter netted a 73rd item to snatched a 2-1 over cellar-placed St Benedict’s College.

National Under-17 goalkeeper, Kwesi Weston, playing as a striker opened the scoring for Shiva Boys’ in the 28th minute with his third item in two matches, but five minutes later Keron Brooks replied for St Benedict’s only for Peters to hit home the decisive item. With the win, Shiva Boys’ moved to 17 points from nine matches, the same as Pleasantville which clobbered Vessigny 6-0 at Pt D’or Recreation Ground.

Russell Alfred and Ken Khan scored two goals each for Pleasantville while Shivon Lesse and an own-goal from Kendal De Gannes accounted for the others for Pleasantville to lead Shiva Boys’via a better goal-difference. In the late match at Marabella, Presentation (19 pts) came up against Naparima, which is three points behind.

Scarborough extends Tobago lead
At the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet, five different players were on target for Scarborough Secondary in its 5-0 blowout of Speyside to extend its lead in the Tobago Zone over defending champion, Signal Hill to six points. With the victory Scarborough now has 19 points from seven matches, six more than Signal Hill which has a match in hand. Third place Mason Hall has nine points after a 1-0 defeat of Pentecostal Light & Life at Signal Hill Recreation Ground.

Caps book 'Big Five' berth
…Rain makes 'Tigers' wait
By Kern De Freitas (Express).

RAIN was the biggest winner yesterday, forcing six of the 14 BG T&T Secondary School Football League (SSFL) fixtures to be abandoned in the North, Central and South Zones.

Carapichaima East Secondary became the first team to celebrate a zonal victory and berth in the "Big Five" with a 4-1 whipping of Couva West Secondary at Couva.

Christopher Prime doubled up in the first half with goals in the sixth and 32nd minutes, and Shaquille Holder netted in the 20th.

Jasset Williams pulled one back for Couva in the 35th, but Kadeem Boyce put the match to bed for "Caps" in the 81st.

Also in Central, Tabaquite Secondary got past Waterloo Secondary 3-0, but Presentation College Chaguanas had their home fixture against Gasparillo Secondary washed out.

The North was affected by rain as well, with St Anthony's College, needing a win to take the title, suffering a rained-out away match at Fatima College's Mucurapo Road Ground.

Fatima's trip to Queen's Royal College in St Clair was also in vain, with the field too waterlogged for play.

But relegation-threatened Malick Secondary earned themselves a lifeline in the heavy rains at the Hasely Crawford Stadium Training Ground with their first victory of the season, a 2-1 win over Trinity College. Scoring for Malick were Andel Andrews and Matthew Lester.

The East Zone was hardest hit, with no play possible in any of the three fixtures.

In South, Presentation College San Fernando moved a step closer to dethroning Naparima College with a 3-0 win over Princes Town West Secondary at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium.

In the other "Mannie Ramjohn" match,  Pleasantville Secondary and St Benedict's College drew 2-2. And at Penal, Shiva Boys Hindu School trounced Vessigny Secondary 12-2.

Over in Tobago, at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet, Signal Hill whipped Pentecostal Light and Life 9-1 to stay in the hunt for the Tobago Zone title. At press time last night, Speyside Secondary were locked in battle with Mason Hall Secondary, also at the Yorke Stadium.

The rained-out North and East Zone matches will be played tomorrow.

Tigers retain North title.
By Andrew Gioannetti (Guardian).

St Anthony’s College (North) retained its title in the North Zone BGTT First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League  with a 2-1 win over East Mucurapo, at Fatima College Ground, yesterday.

Needing only one point from the fixture to secure the title, the St Anthony’s “Tigers” complemented their perfect season by completing the double over nearest rivals East Mucurapo. Garvin Samaroo opened the scoring in added time of the first half to give the St Anthony’s a 1-0 lead.

Mucurapo mustered a response from Shaquille Donatie in he 61st minute, before Samaroo scored his second and the winner in the 73rd minute for the visitors. The ‘Tigers’ still has two matches left in the league, before heading into the Big Five semi-final against the winner of the East Zone.

El Dorado on track for East title

Defending champions St Augustine’s 5-0 win over Barataria South, yesterday was overshadowed by an El Dorado 1-0 win over San Juan North in the East Zone.

Dwight Quintero’s penalty on the stroke of half time was enough to keep El Dorado joint top with Arima North, which also won their match, 2-0 against Trinity East.

It was Arima’s final league fixture, while El Dorado have one more match remaining on Wednesday against Barataria South. A win would see El Dorado take the title.

St Augustine, with goals in the second half from Nicholas Marcano, Shannon Gomez, Joel Henry and Jamal Creighton kept them in the race.

A win for St Augustine over Trinity tomorrow, and a loss for El Dorado on the same day, will see the defending champions reclaim the title.

St Anthony's edge Mucurapo for North Zone title
By Kern De Freitas (Express).

Samaroo scored in the final minute of the first half and then slammed another item past Mucurapo goalkeeper Dwayne Thomas in the middle of the second period, giving his team the lead each time on a muddy pitch.

But it was his second goal that also handed them a berth in the SSFL "Big Five" national league competition.

St Anthony's then had to survive a late onslaught by the "home team", as well as a silly booking of Rayshard Allen in the 90th minute that added to the drama of nearly seven minutes' stoppage time.

But the Tigers clung on for the win and had their "2011 North Zone champions" T-shirts ready to celebrate through the hastening darkness of the Mucurapo sky.

St Anthony's controlled much of the first half as midfielder Luke Hernandez dropped a corner kick on to the Mucurapo crossbar and a few minutes later Samaroo bamboozled three defenders, but could not beat Thomas from point-blank range.

Striker Darryl Trim was not his accurate self, missing from open position on the left, as St Anthony's struggled to get their final shot on target.

The same could be said for Mucurapo, who did look dangerous going forward. But Kevin Lewis up front also lacked that final finish, even after a pair of defensive blunders by the Tigers defence.

Samaroo, though, finally found his scoring touch just before half-time, albeit with Thomas's help. He slipped a loose ball past his marker and shot from the right of the six-metre box and Thomas let the ball slip under him and over the line.

Mucurapo came out with intensity in the second period and it took them 16 minutes to get the reward. Keil Pierre slipped and gave Sharkeel Donatien just enough room and space and a deflection took the ball beyond Jamaal Francois in St Anthony's goal.

In the end, the match belonged to the Tigers and, for the fifth time in ten years, so does the North Zone.

Vessigny joins Debe atop S Zone.
By Andrew Gioannetti (Guardian).

Vessigny went top of the BGTT First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Girls Championship South Zone when the school defeated Point Fortin West 3-0 on Saturday.

Goals from Teneisha Cobham, Cherrece Marshall and T’keyah Phillip put pressure on Debe, with only two matches remaining. In the other match, Michelle Murray scored a second half equaliser for Holy Faith in their 1-1 draw with Point Fortin East.

Princess Peters opened for Point Fortin East in the first half. The top two teams, Debe and Vessigny will be in action today in a title decider.

Vessigny will be without key player, Tineisha Cobham and twins Khadidra and Khadisha Debesette for the fixture as the players have been included in the T&T squad  selected for the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Women’s Under-20 qualifiers in Suriname.

Vessigny manager Lidya Wildman believes, however, that the team are still in a position to defeat the defending zonal and Intercol champions.

The match will be Vessigny’s final zonal fixture while Debe will have one more match, a tough encounter against Point Fortin East on Thursday. The match will be played at lower Barrackpore Ground.

El Dorado win second straight zonal title

Last Thursday, El Dorado East Secondary clinched the East Zone title for the second year running in fine style with a 5-0 walkover on Toco.

Patrice Campbell scored all five of the goals in the match, complimenting an outstanding performance for her school in the campaign. Campbell scored four goals in a rescheduled fixture against St George’s last Tuesday, which saw El Dorado walk away 6-0 winners.

She scored an impressive 26 goal tally for the season thus far. Coach of El Dorado for 10 years, Chet Hewitt lauded Campbell’s contribution. He described Cambell as an outstanding player and someone special. Hewitt also praised the team’s captain Adefah Welch calling her a “true inspiration to the team.”

Following their triumph, four other players, Kudijah Birod, Danika George, Sherese Bishop and Rosalie Dollabaille were invited to try for the national Under-17 and Under-20 teams.

Roxborough crowned Tobago league champs

Roxborough Secondary won the Tobago Zone when the team edged Bishops 3-2 away from home. Goals from Natalia Benjamin and Andrel Fraser, as well as an own goal continued Roxborough’s unbeaten run, which put them in the National semi-final against the winner of the South Zone (yet to be determined).

Roxborough have taken the title with two matches to spare. Their two remaining fixtures are against a winless Mason Hall and Scarborough, which they defeated 2-0 in the first match of the season.

Tsianne Leander scored another hat-trick for Speyside as the school eased past Scarborough 6-2. Chevelle Marcelle scored a two goal brace while Sophia Gordon got the other goal for Speyside. Their win and Bishops’ loss saw Speyside jump to second position.

Gordon seals Tobago crown for Scarborough.
By Nigel Simon (Guardian).

Mickaeel Gordon netted a late item as Scarborough Secondary edged last year’s winner Signal Hill Secondary 2-1 to be crowned BGTT/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League Tobago Zone champion.

Going into the match at Signal Hill, the visitors needed only to avoid defeat while Signal Hill had to achieve maximum points to retain its zonal crown on goal-difference from its rival.

However, Scarborough wasted little time and went ahead as early as the 11th minute through Christopher Morgan, a lead it held until the half.

Despite being outplayed, Signal Hill managed to draw level via Shaquille Gill in the 69th minute which was good enough for the title.

But ten minutes later Gordon grabbed the eventual title clincher for Scarborough as it ended with 22 points from eight matches, six ahead of Signal Hill.

The Tobago champion, now travel to Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva, on Tuesday for a 4 pm meeting with eight-time reigning Central Zone champion, Carapichaima East Secondary in a national “Big-Five” quarterfinal.

In the Central Zone, already crowned champion, Carapichaima East Secondary won its ninth match in a row, 4-0 over Presentation College of Chaguanas, while St Anthony’s College celebrated its North Zone title with a 2-0 shut out of Malick Secondary for its 11th win from as many matches.

Debe queens of South football again
By Andrew Gioannetti (Guardian).

Debe Secondary captured their sixth straight BGTT First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) South Zone title after defeating nearest challengers Vessigny 3–0 in a rescheduled match, on Tuesday.

Debe completed the double over Vessigny by the same three goal margin after winning 4–1 last month. Shinelle Arjoon, who scored a double in their first meeting, was again on target, scoring mid-way through the first half, to give Debe the 1–0 lead at the interval.

Kayla Taylor also got on the score sheet, as she did in the first match, with ten minutes gone in the second half. Debe captain, Patrice Vincent wrapped up the scoring around the hour mark, to give the team the easy 3–0 win.

Vessigny rued the loss of key players Tineisha Cobham and twins Khadidra and Khadisha Debesbette, who were on national team duties.

The team, however, put up a good fight in the league winning five and drawing one of the eight matches. Arjoon amassed nine goals in six matches played, leading the team’s goal scorers. Amanda Theodore scored six goals, while Vincent and Taylor both got four goals.

Vincent, who netted Debe’s final goal, was described by coach Clive Auguste as an outstanding player and an inspiration to the team.

“She did exceptionally well to get the team to work together. She was also influential, playing well in attack and dropping into defence,” said Auguste.

Vincent will lead the Debe team in search for their fourth consecutive Nationals and Intercol title. Debe’s next challenge is at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella when they face Tobago champions Roxborough in the national semifinal.

It will be the first of a double-header at 3 pm (preceding the Boys Big Five semifinal). Last season, Debe captured the National and Intercol titles after defeating Roxborough by a 1–0 and 4–1 margin, respectively.

Shiva Boys’ confirmed as South champs.
T&T Guardian Reports.

Shiva Boys Hindu College were confirmed as champion of the South Zone after the SSFL Appeals Committe threw out a complaint by runner-up Presentation College of San Fernando, yesterday.

The decision to throw out the complaint was taken by a three-member committee following a meeting held at Queen’s Royal College, yesterday involving North Zone secretary, Rudolph Hope and the vice principals of QRC and East Mucurapo.

Last week the Disciplinary Committee was mandated by the SSFL Appeals Committee to review a case involving last year’s zonal winner Naparima College and this year’s runner-up Presentation College.

On September 17, Presentation secured a 3-1 win over Naparima at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella. However, Naparima protested claiming a breach of SSFL rules.

Naparima objected to Presentation use of a player, who was supposed to serve a one match suspension after picking up yellow cards in their two previous matches against St Benedict’s College (September 7) and Shiva Boys’ Hindu School (September 10), respectively.

Following the hearing of the disciplinary committee which was chaired by its secretary Gerald Elliot, the SSFL, assistant secretary of administration, it was decided to award Naparima a 3-0 win.

But, Presentation College appealed the outcome and as a result the SSFL Appeals Ccommittee chaired by SSFL president Ewing Davis mandated the Disciplinary Committee to undertake a totally new hearing as they found the original hearing tainted with bias.

However, at the end of yesterday’s meeting it was decided to uphold the outcome of the original hearing, thus declaring Shiva Boys’ as the South Zone winner and with it a national Big-Five semifinal date with the winner of today’s quarterfinal encounter between Carapichaima East (Central Zone champion) and Tobago winner, Scarborough Secondary.

The clash between Carapichaima East, unbeaten in ten matches this season enroute to its eight straight zonal crown and Scarborough, yet to taste defeat in eight matches kicks off at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva from 4 pm.

El Do pip Green Machine for SSFL semi-final berth
By Kern De Freitas (Express).

El Dorado East Secondary's "Blue Thunder" shut down the "Green Machine" of St Augustine to take the BG T&T Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) East Zone title yesterday at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Malabar.

Dwight Quintero opened the scoring in the 15th minute and Jameel Forde restored it with a beautiful solo effort with 20 minutes to go, after St Augustine captain Jamal Creighton equalised with a ferocious free kick at the start of the second half.

El Dorado controlled the midfield from the opening whistle and it allowed them to transition quickly into attack.

Although St Augustine had the first shot in attack--a second minute attempt hit wide of the mark by Ricaldo Castellano—El Dorado were quick on the counter.

They got their reward in the 15th minute through Quintero.

St Augustine gave up the loose ball in midfield and Quintero collected the pass wide on the right, sprinted past his marker and, with time and space, side-footed past St Augustine goalkeeper Kerron Jones.

In the first half, El Dorado's Nicolas Castellanos was lively, but his two shots on goal lacked power.

St Augustine's best chance in the half came off a Triston Hodge throw deflected to Akeem Garcia, who headed wide.

St Augustine brought new life into the match with the equaliser soon after the break, a beautiful free kick from captain Jamal Creighton in the 47th that took a slight deflection and nestled beyond El Do goalie Hakeem Lucas's left hand.

They searched desperately for the go-ahead goal after that, Creighton trying his luck from close to half line and in the 67th, Shaquille Smith misdirected his header from 12 metres.

El Dorado were more clinical, another counter attack in the 76th bearing fruit as Forde dribbled three defenders and beat Jones from point-blank range.

From there the "Green Machine" started to stutter.

El Dorado had a few chances to kill off the match, none better than the final minute when Quintero slammed a shot against the crossbar, only for Forde to mis-kick into the gloves of Jones.

Still, it was victory for El Dorado and a berth in the "Big Five" semi-finals opposite North Zone champions St Anthony's College.
The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

Caps edge Scarborough to reach 'Big Five' semis.
By Kern De Freitas (Express).

Carapichaima produced a great first half against Scarborough Secondary at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva, before edging past the Tobago Zone champions 2-1 to progress to the BG T&T/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) semi-finals.

Shaquille Gill tormented Scarborough in the first half and earned "Caps" a 1-0 lead at the break, while Shaquille Holder doubled the advantage for Carapichaima early in the second period.

Christopher Morgan powered in a wonderful header to hand Scarborough a lifeline, but it was not enough to complete a comeback.

Caps coupled constructive aggression — despite a few too many missed chances — with urgent defence late on to make sure their advantage stood all the way and never stopped looking for the insurance goal, even after Scarborough went down to ten men early in the second half.

Scarborough showed great character when 2-0 down to fight their way back into the match, but it was not enough to surmount the  challenge by the Central Zone champs, who retained their unbeaten tag with an impressive display.

Scarborough's defensive mindset was immediately apparent from the first whistle; their first six touches were all clearances off the field.

Their first counter-attack nearly cost the Tobago champions as they lost the ball deep in the Carapichaima half. Scarborough conceded a free kick at the edge of the penalty area from the ensuing  Caps' breakaway, with Kareem Ryce booting the ball just over.

Scarborough had two wasted free kicks on the offensive end as their best attacking options of the half.

From there, Carapichaima turned on the pressure--Gill was a nightmare for a ten-minute period and should have scored when set free on the left of the penalty area, but he shot straight at the onrushing Gardiner in the Scarborough goal.

He made up for his mistake a minute later, when another Scarborough attack went awry and Caps sprung into action. Captain  Shaquille Holder brought the ball into the penalty area and fed it to Gill, who picked his spot and flicked past the onrushing Gardiner.

The small, partisan Central crowd, who had been chastising the striker a minute earlier, were cheering loudly, accompanied by their wildly fluttering green flags.

Gill spurned another chance in the 29th by holding up the ball too long, while Christopher Prime shot straight at Gardiner.

Kareem Ryce also brought saves out of the Scarborough custodian before half-time — a point blank effort in the 41st, and another palm-stinger from 25 metres in the 44th.

Carapichaima went in at the break with a 1-0 lead they would have felt should have been greater.

Within four minutes from the resumption, the match was all but over for Scarborough. First, Holder capped off a nice attacking move, collecting a through-ball at the left side of the penalty area and making space with his right foot before placing the ball perfectly between the far post and Gardiner's outstretched left hand.

Then Scarborough right-back Semel Crichlow committed his second bookable offence by tugging back Prime once the winger had squeezed past him. That put Scarborough further behind, with more space for Carapichiama to exploit.

Scarborough now had little chance to attack, first with shots from distance that lacked penetration, and that desperation got them back into the game. They found their passing game and found Caps wanting a few times on the break.

The pressure told in the 68th, with the short figure of Morgan heading a long ball to the right of Demetrius Edwards in Carapichaima's goal. And two minutes later the transformation should have been complete, except that Kiel O'Neil missed the near post from very close range with Edwards out of goal as Caps were caught out on the break.

That miss prompted a mini-tantrum from Mickaeel Gordon, who had supplied the pass.

Ryce could have made it 3-1 at the end for Carapichaima, but in the fifth and final minute of stoppage time, he put his attempt way over.

Still, it mattered little as Caps are the winners and will now play new South Zone champions Shiva Boys Hindu College in next Monday's SSFL "Big Five" semi-final. For the night they celebrated victory and dulled the pain of last year's 3-1 defeat to Signal Hill Secondary at the same stage.

Boyce shoots Caps into 'Big Five' final.
By Kern De Freitas (Express).

One strike from second half substitute Kadeem Boyce was all it took to send Carapichaima East Secondary flying into the BG T&T/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) "Big Five" final for the very first time.

But the Central Zone champions had to withstand almost 40 minutes of constant pressure from Shiva Boys Hindu College at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, before a great finish by Boyce handed them the 1-0 win in second half stoppage.

Fans would have surely understood the distress of a sobbing Shiva captain Tevin Peters after the match, following a passionate display by his team, and an aggressive offensive effort. But when it came down to it, they just could not find the go-ahead goal.

And Boyce stole the match with a nice first-time effort from 18 metres, set up by his skipper Shaquille Holder, his strike sending Adrian Lewis, the Shiva goalkeeper, the wrong way. It was not the prettiest of encounters, but Carapichama made their only real close look at goal count in the end.

Carapichaima will now meet the winners of today's final between El Dorado East Secondary and St Anthony's College.

The early first half exchanges made it clear that there was little between the teams. Carapichaima had the first offensive move, but they soon learned Shiva were just as quick.

In fact, Shiva could have gone ahead first if not for an acrobatic save to deny Shiva forward Aswad Lake. And in the 19th, Kyle Thomas had a shot at goal from 24 metres with space and time, but muffed the attempt.

Carapichaima enjoyed good, lively passing themselves, but like Shiva, they failed to find that final touch in the attacking third.

Caps tried their shots from distance too to beat the compact Shiva backline, but midfielder Treverson Calliste hit wide, and Kareem Ryce's effort was too weak.

As they returned from the break, Shiva turned up the heat. Perhaps, their best chance of the half came from second half substitute Shaquille Jogie, who headed over from close range, prompting shouts of "ooh" and "ahh" from the crowd. Substitutes Kieron Moses and Shavon Diaz also had near misses.

The final minutes belonged to Carapichaima, with Ryce hitting the Shiva wall off a close range free kick in the 90th, and they had two nice attacking movements crowded out in stoppage time.

But the third try Caps made count, and the reward is their first Big Five final.

Debe reach girls 'Big Four' final.
T&T Express Reports.

Debe Secondary yesterday earned the first spot in the BG T&T/ First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League Girls Championship "Big Four" final with a 3-0 whipping of Tobago champions Roxborough Secondary.

Debe got first half goals from former national under-17 women' team players Kayla Taylor and captain Patrice Vincent, as well as an item from Rae-Ann Montano.

First, Taylor slotted home a fifth-minute free kick to the left of Roxborough goalkeeper Shanice Sylvester after the custodian handled outside the area. And in the 17th, Patrice Vincent finished a wonderful solo effort off a loose ball with a strike beneath the crossbar.

In the 55th minute–15 minutes into the second half–Montano capped off the scoring off the feed from Taylor's run down the right flank.

Scarborough did cause Debe a few nervous moments, their best effort being a close-range shot by Njemile Charles over an open goal in the 12th minute.

In Thursday's final, Debe will meet the winners of today's clash between El Dorado East Secondary and St Francois Girls College.
