KINGSTON – Michael ‘Mike’ Rodgers is the American athlete tested positive for a stimulant.
The athlete's agent Tony Campbell confirmed the positive test in a TVJ interview on Saturday night.
Campbell, in confirming Track Alerts breaking story published earlier in the day, said the stimulant was contained in an energy drink.
"He has been notified,” said Campbell of the positive test.
“He has one of those energy drinks at a club, he taught it was Red Bull, but it was one of those drinks with one of those stimulants in it,” he told TVJ.
Campbell said they are now waiting on the B standard to be opened on Wednesday before they can proceed further.
As for Rodgers status on the USA team to this month’s IAAF World Championships in Daegu, South Korea, United States of America Track & Field Association (USATF) could not be reached for comment.
However, according to Campbell, “he has not been suspended yet by USATF as of today.”
Rodgers was selected to run the men’s 100m with Justin Gatlin and Walter Dix. He was also listed in the relay pool.
His positive comes days after Jamaican Anti-Doping Commission confirmed a Jamaican returned an Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF) from the Jamaican National Trials.
