W Connection’s Zaine Pierre set for Genoa trial
www.ttproleague.com

W Connection’s St. Lucian teenaged striker Zaine Pierre will jet off on Saturday for a two-week trial with Italian Serie A club Genoa.

This was confirmed by the TT Pro League club via a press release on Monday.

In the release the club included that Genoa will cover all expenses including Pierre’s airfare from Trinidad to Italy.

Zaine joined Connection two years ago at the age of 16 where he underwent development at the club under the care of club President David John Williams and head coach Stuart Charles Fevrier.

In 2010 Pierre had stints with top English clubs such as Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham. Earlier this year the teenager also had a trial at MLS club San Jose Earthquakes.

Pierre who will turn 18 in September recently successfully represented St Lucia’s senior team in the preliminary round of the World Cup qualifiers against Aruba, and now looks forward for second round where St Lucia will be playing Canada, St Kitts and Puerto Rico.

The release also stated that Zaine Pierre is elated by the opportunity and is determined to play in the prestigious Serie A.

Nobody commenting because he's Lucian or what?  Regardless... congrats to de yute...dis is big recognition for W Connection, and the Pro League.  Hopefully he's successful on trial, or at least opens enough eyes as to merit further interest in Italy for TnT footballers.

This is what we need from the local clubs.  Produce talent and sell them to be able to reinvest in the club.

Caribbean ace denied PL switch
Pierre likely for switch to Spain or Italy

Caribbean starlet Zaine Pierre looks set for a move to Spain or Italy, rather than England, skysports.com understands.

The 17-year-old midfielder has already spent time on trial at Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham, Manchester City and Stoke in the last 12 months.

But despite interest in landing him on a permanent deal, work permit regulations mean the St Lucia international is currently unable to play in England.

He is now looking likely to move to mainland Europe, with the likes of Genoa, Roma, Atletico Madrid and Villarreal all keen.

Genoa appear to be currently heading the chase for the W-Connection ace as he is set to link-up with them on loan.

"He has the experience of being on trial with some of the top clubs in England while he was still 16 years old so that will serve him in good stead," W-Connection chairman John Williams told the Trinidad Guardian.

"Pierre may still be a teenager but I'm confident that he will give a good account of himself knowing that he has a chance to play for one of the top clubs in Italian football."

Yeah, he has been on trial at Genoa so it would most likely be him.

Arsenal, Tottenham keen on St Lucia teen Zaine Pierre

St Lucia international Zaine Pierre, 17, has some of the Premier League's biggest clubs eyeing his transfer.

The Mirror says Pierre, who plays as an attacking midfielder, trained with Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester City and Stoke City last year, but couldn't sign due to work permit restrictions.

Pierre, who turns 18 in September, is regarded as one of the hottest prospects in world football and is keen to make a name for himself in Europe.

Pierre was tipped for the top by ex-Spurs forward Les Ferdinand after he coached him as part of a talent-search project in the Caribbean in May.

Connection’s Zaine Pierre signed by Italian Serie A club Genoa

Teenaged W Connection midfielder Zaine Pierre has completed a major move to Serie A club, Genoa officially signing a four year deal this week.

The 18 year old St. Lucian has spent the last six months with the Italian club following stints with English clubs Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspurs, Manchester City, Liverpool and Stoke City.

According to a press release by Connection, all English clubs expressed interest in his ability however work permit restrictions prevented any move.

The release further stated that Genoa then stepped in and secured the player’s signature, however Connection preferred not to disclose the transfer fee involved.

“This signing has sparked a lot of interest in other young players at W Connection by other major Italian Clubs, and will no doubt pave the way for future signings,” said the Digicel Pro League Champions. “This move has again reinforced the strength and potential of W Connection’s youth system and programme. The Club remains committed to the development of young talented players from Trinidad and Tobago as well as the wider Caribbean.”

Pierre joined W Connection Football Club youth academy at the age of 16 years and was immediately promoted to the Senior Team as one of the talents spotted by head coach and fellow countryman Stuart Charles Fevrier.

It was also revealed that Pierre through his advisor, Daniel Wilson, has secured a sponsorship contract with Puma.

You notice they never say how much money they get.

It's nice that they can sell players but how do they build a team when the best players have to be sold.

They are a selling team, and if that motivates the teams in T&T to produce better players then I guess for now that would have to work.

At least with this team he going to it's in a top league so hopefully he aint being treated like "Animal"

Interesting that he isn't much younger than S. Winchester and travel less but get a contract. Winchester still globetrotting.

It profits them nothing to disclose how much they get... besides, Genoa probably made them agree to that.

Connection is the model for the other pro teams back home; they attract and invest in the youth and still manage to field a competitive product in the Pro League.  Yet, other teams back home keep looking for instant gratification by investing in spoiled, recycled players.  They refuse to invest in young players that they can develop and market abroad.

Added to which, you can't run a team in the pro league by depending on gate receipts. And the profit that they make by selling players can be re-invested in the development of other players. Seems like a sound business model to me and hard to argue with given the team's success over the years.

Hmm. Given the kid's age (17 yo), I imagine he'd probably be playing with the youth teams initially, then hopefully work his way up to reserves and then senior team. I know a local Jamaican club/academy based in Austria recently sold a couple teenage kids to clubs in France and germany for minimal transfer fees.
The good thing for these kids is that they get early exposure to professional setup.

The truth is if you keep selling your best players you end up like the third div. teams in England always spinning your wheels becz your momentum is broken.

If we assume that WC got good sales from K. Jones and Pierre they can do more than invest in the youths they can also purchase Sr. players to fill the gap.

WC seem to have lost some momentum in 201/2011. They should have bigger aspirations thatn TT and should by now be looking to be a big fish in Concacaf. At the end of the day they are a team that plays a good brand, I hope the loss of Pierre won't do much to their CFU ambitions and beyond.

most likely he'll be in the youth squad...then co-owned with a serie b team...young players are like currency in italy...two birds with one stone in sending out a player to grow in italian ball in serie b...then sending him out in a lower table or newly promoted serie a side (thats if he impresses)..hopefully the time period that this happens in is not too long..
