Villarreal 0-1 FC Barcelona
0-1 : Piqué 67'

13th league win away this campaign equals the Liga record for a single season.

Club record 22 consecutive matches unbeaten in away Liga fixtures (18 wins, 4 draws).

Barcelona now unbeaten in 28 consecutive Liga matches (24 wins, 3 draws). The all-time record is 38 held by Real Sociedad (overlapping seasons of 1978-79/1979-80).

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/MYORHjaqiLI" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="bbc_link bbc_flash_disabled new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/MYORHjaqiLI</a>

This was supposed to be a special week for the Spanish League. FC Barcelona was “supposed” to lose to Villarreal CF at the ever-imposing El Madrigal, and Real Madrid FC would “surely” beat Sporting Gijon at the Santiago Bernabeu. This was going to the week in which FC Barcelona’s five-point lead over Real Madrid FC was “supposed” to be cut down to two points, and thus setting up one of the most crucial El Clasicos in recent memory. However, there was one problem; words such as “supposed” and ”surely” don’t matter in the world of football, and at the end of week 30 in La Liga, the table looked different than predicted. Much different…

Sporting Gijon pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the season, beating Real Madrid FC 0-1 and therefore ending Jose Mourinho’s proud 150-games, 9-year long unbeaten streak at home. Since Barcelona was playing after Madrid, it knew of the unforeseen result and went into the match knowing that they could extend their lead over their rivals to eight points. In their way stood one of the most exciting and formidable teams in the league, Villarreal CF. The yellow submarines were also fighting for an important place in the table - the coveted third place spot, which guarantees the last automatic Champions League spot.

Real Madrid looking like a team in form, firing on all cylinders. They are smooth, creating chances from all over the park and finishing as well. They are also defending very solid.
This is a great time to be hitting their peak, should make for an interesting month

FC Barcelona 2-0 CA Osasuna
1-0 : Villa 24'
2-0 : Messi 87'

Messi broke yet another record and became the first player in the history of la Liga to score 50 goals (all competitions) in a single season.  He surpassed the record previously held by Hungarian Ferenc Puskás, who had scored 49 goals for Real Madrid in the 1959-60 season.

A lot of people questioned the acquisition of Mascherano at the beginning saying that he was overkill and wasted at Barca. Well for the last few games with the amount of injuries plaguing Barca at the moment, especially in the defense, he has more than proven his worth. He put it in a man of the match performance on Sat playing in the center of defense and pelting his blade tirelessly. Barcelona will definitely need him on Wed against Los Putos Blancos.

Yes Messi is the greatest but Cristiano Ronaldo deserve some recognition too.

Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo equals La Liga goal-scoring record - but he's 'not obsessed with scoring goals'

Ronaldo made it nine goals in his last three games with a 22nd-minute free-kick and another in the last minute to stay on course to pick up the Pichichi trophy for the league's top-scorer.
Ronaldo's tally equals the record shared by Athletic Bilbao's Telmo Zarra, who set the record in 1951, and Real Madrid legend Hugo Sanchez, who equalled it in 1990.

Barcelona's Lionel Messi, his nearest rival, has 31 La Liga goals, although with 54 in all competitions the Argentine is still two ahead for the season overall.

Ronaldo has the final game of the season - at home against Almeria next weekend - to set a new record.
"I am very happy about equaling Zarra and Hugo Sanchez's record,” said the 26 year-old.

“I didn't expect to score so many goals this year and I feel honored to reach two legends like Zarra and Hugo Sanchez.

“What really matters is that we earned a great victory at a complicated venue. All of us, coach and players alike, want to have a good end to the season, and we're accomplishing this so far.

"I would like to score even more goals against Almeria, but I'm not obsessed about it. I've tried to score from set pieces many times this year, but had been unlucky until now.”

Newly-crowned champions Barcelona had their eye on the Champions League final against Manchester United on May 28 as they rested a handful stars in their dull 0-0 draw against Deportivo La Coruna at Camp Nou.

Messi and Ronaldo's numbers over the past two years have been phenomenal, a goal a game over the course of a hundred games for two men yet to hit 27 years.
THE WARRIORS WILL NOT BE DENIED.

Hugo Sanchez's 38 goals were all 1-touch finishes.

Very nice find. I real like wingplay and about 1/3 of them goals is the ball coming in from wide to either cause havoc in the box or to be put away one time. Teams just don't play that way enough these days.

Also is a nice reminder of a time when small regional brands like Hummel, Diadora, Toppa, Umbro and Sportif coulda hold down big sides, now is just Nike and Adidas.
