Yohan Blake is good enough to take silver..Its possible there may be a Jamaican sweep. I still believe Thompson will not let that happen. If Tyson Gay was healthy this would have been more interesting

Here are my overall predictions for the men. Will do the womens once I get more time.

Mens

100m

Asafa Powel
Usain Bolt
Yohan Blake
Dark horse(s) Richard Thompson, Nesta Carter, Lemaitre

200m

Usain Bolt (Manage to catch Dix)
Walter Dix
Lemaitre
Dark horse(s) Nickel Ashmeade, Alonso Edward

* If Sorrilo makes the final, expect him to run his heart out. 6th or 7th will be a huge accomplishment.

400m

Leshawn Merrit
Kirani James
Jermaine Gonsalez
Dark Horse(s) Kevin Borlee, Chris Brown, Demetrius Pinder

* If Quow makes the final he should finish 6th, 7th or 8th. Overall, Quow keeps the best till last. So I would not be surprised if he defies expectations

110mh

Dayron Robles
Lui Xang
David Oliver

Dark Horse (Jason Richardson)
* We need a Trini in this event bad bad

400mh

Angelo Taylor
Bershawn Jackson
Javier Culson

*LJ Van Zyl season starts in January or February. Word out is that the late championships will work against him.  Jehue will pull of a 5th maybe 4th. He has age on his side and much more experience than 4 years ago.

Relay 4x100

Jamaica 37.01
Trinidad 37.64
France  37.77

* If USA does as planned, they might just nip T&T into 3rd with France settling for 4th.

4x400

USA
Bahamas
Belgium

T&T and Jamaica can stymie Belgium. I think the 3rd leg will be key in this race. If Zwede is on that 3rd leg he will have to pull of something special (sub 45) to put T&T in medal contention. The twins will surely be on the 3rd and 4th leg for Belgium. We need a big lead on Belgium going into the 3rd and 4th legs.

If Semoy gets a good semi I think she can make the 100m final!

I definitely think TnT women can run 42.5 at least but it's questionable as they haven't been able to get sufficient practice. Belgium ran 42.54 with a team that had pb's of 11.04,11.39,11.40,11.41! We all know that the 4x100m is not based on individual speed but seeing this made me think that if our team got to practice together then they could be faster than last world champs final (43.43) by over a second. Kelly is definitely in 10.8 form possibly high 10.7 if she peaks for champs Semoy is in 11.0x form Michelle and Kai both 11.2! Nuff said.

Baptiste, Gordon, Borel among IAAF ‘those to watch list’
Published: Wed, 2011-08-24 08:42
Clayton Clarke

Trinidad and Tobago’s sprinting sensation Kelly Ann Baptiste, hurdler Jehue Gordon and shot puter Cleopatra Borel Brown are among several athletes who have been tipped to shine at the 13th IAAF World Outdoor Track and Field Championships which will get underway on Saturday in South Korea. Former national sprint queen Baptiste is among the headliners in the women’s 100m. In a preview of the event on the International Association of Athletic Federation Web site, Baptiste is one who could cause an upset. The Web site stated: “The 2003 World Youth bronze medallist is another from the richly talented Caribbean Islands who could throw a spanner in the works of the main contenders and could be a big player on the world stage. She could be a very serious threat to the sprint pack.”

The Plymouth resident enters the event as the fifth fastest on the world list following her 10.91 victory in Paris, France on July 8 when she defeated triple Olympic champion Veronica Campbell-Brown (Jamaica).
Ahead of her on the rankings are American Carmelita Jeter (10.70) and Marshevet Mayers (10.86) and Jamaicans Campbell-Brown (10.76) and Kerron Stewart (10.87). Baptiste beat Stewart at the Jamaican Invitational on May 7 and also in Paris. The 2010 Continental Cup winner also whipped reigning World and Olympic Champion Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce (Jamaica) in London on August 6. Baptiste’s only losses for the year have been to Jeter in Jamaica and London. Gordon created a stir at last World Championships in Berlin Germany two years ago when as a 17 year old he finished a remarkable fourth after coming into the home stretch in medal position. Since then he went on to take the 2010 World Junior title and has been featured by the BBC as one of the athletes to watch in next year’s Olympic Games London. He goes to Daegu with the ninth best time of all the entrants and according the IAAF prediction he is “rounding into good shape.”

Two time Commonwealth medallist Borel is seeking her first ‘Worlds’ Outdoor  women’s shot put finals and seems set to do so after she set a national outdoor mark of 19.42 in July. The seventh best throw of 2011 is rated as the best of the rest in this year’s world lists. The Mayaro athlete took the Central American and Caribbean Championships title in Puerto Rico in July and “will be relishing the prospect of performing on the global stage.” Though not listed in the men’s 100m after his national record of 9.85 earlier this month Richard Thompson will lead this country’s men’s 4x100m which has been noted as “are entitled to think they are in with a shout at a medal”. The local sprint team will be going for a fourth World Championships medal after silver lining success in 2001, 2005 and 2009.

I didn't realize just how many people doubt the legitimacy of our sprinters because of the 'new track' or because of it simply being  'in Trinidad and our athletes usually run fast times there'. Someone actually had him down to run 10.01 come the final, C'mon thorpedo show 'em what you made of!

Also some are writing off Jehue's fast time of 48.75 in T&T and not rating him as well to make the 400mH final!  >:(

njured Powell out of world 100m

By Luke Phillips (AFP) – 2 hours ago

DAEGU, South Korea — Asafa Powell, the fastest man in the world this season over 100m and defending champion Usain Bolt's biggest rival, will miss the event at the world championships, his agent confirmed on Thursday.

The 28-year-old Jamaican has failed to recover from a niggling groin injury that also saw him skip the London Diamond League meet earlier this month, Paul Doyle told AFP.

"He's out of the 100m but he hopes to be back for the 4x100m relay," which will be raced on the final day of competition on September 4, Doyle said.

The men's 100m kicks off on the opening day of the Daegu worlds, with the final being run on Sunday night.

"He's still suffering groin pains from the Budapest meet (in July). He pulled out of the London meet (August 5-6) and has not recovered suffienctly to take part in the 100m," Doyle said.

Ha!
People like to continually doubt our guys!  Let them talk, they fail to realize in the mens 100m event, our nation continually produces athletes in the final and in the past 10 yrs have medalled consistently in the relays and the 100m.  So no worries!  Let them talk!

Sorry to hear about Asafa but let Jamaica worry about him.  Go Torpedo and the rest of the TnT athletes!
whey boy!

Nesta Carter would be the sleeper in that race. Just bear in mind he was injured for the first part of the year and was at 60% at Jamaica National Championship
