West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul scored his third County Championship century in five matches when he compiled an unbeaten 107 for Warwickshire against Hampshire at the Rose Bowl, Southampton yesterday. Coming into bat with the score on 89 for two, the left hander shared a 188-run third wicket partnership with opener Varuun Chopra (109) to set up his team’s first day tally of 294 for three. His 197-ball innings included 14 fours and two sixes in 258 minutes. After bringing up his half century in 114 balls, he raced from 50 to 100 in just 43 but became defensive when Hampshire took the new ball, managing four runs off his last 40 balls.

Chanderpaul’s season tally now stands at 475 runs at an average of 95.00, the highest in Division One.
Meanwhile, fast bowler Kemar Roach picked up three for 57 in 20.5 overs to help Worcestershire reduce Durham to 264 at Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street. Roach removed opener Will Smith (66), keeper Phil Mustard (21) and tailender M Claydon (5) to carry his season haul to 13 scalps at 33.92 apiece. At Grace Road in Leicester, medium pacer Corey Collymore took three for 79 in 17 overs as Middlesex bowled out Leicestershire for 319. Collymore trapped opener Will Jones lbw for a duck off his fourth ball and bowled captain James Taylor (0) off his sixth. His third strike was topscorer Greg Smith for 108.
