Defence Force routs Rangers to stay top
By Lasana Liburd (Wired868.com)

If tonight’s Digicel Pro League clash between Defence Force and St Ann’s Rangers was a boxing match, referee Neil Brizan would have been obliged to stop the contest after 45 minutes.

It was not just that Defence Force was landing its punches but the increasing ease in which the soldiers were hitting the target at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella. The young, dizzy Rangers team looked collectively short of confidence and certainly was not making much impression on its opponent.

Defence Force led 4-0 by the halftime interval and matched that output in the second session to finish with a resounding 8-0 victory.

The result pushed the army/coast guard combination six points clear of second placed Neal & Massy Caledonia AIA although the latter club, which plays North East Stars at 8 pm tomorrow, has two games in hand. More importantly, Defence Force has indicated that the free scoring “Eastern Stallions” can be matched in the scoring department too.

Caledonia’s goal difference is plus-13; now Defence Force can boast of a differential of plus-16.

Thus far, it is hard to look beyond either club when considering the contenders for the Pro League crown held by DIRECT W Connection at present.

In this evening’s earlier fixture at Marabella, Police FC defeated T&TEC FC 2-0 although the final result arguably flattered the “Lawmen”.

T&TEC should have gone ahead in the 47th minute when a loose ball fell to Bevon Bass inside the opposing penalty area but for a tremendous goalline interception by Police defender Karlon Murray.

And, four minutes later, it got worse for T&TEC as goalkeeper Akini Adams spilled the ball and Jameel Perry rammed home a scrappy opener for the Police. The Lawmen got a second in the 80th minute as Atiba Hutchinson expertly steered a Trent Noel free kick into the corner.

Police might have been reasonably pleased with the performance of its two new recruits, Elijah Belgrave and Christon Thomas, who made up half of the Rangers backline just last month.

And boy could Rangers have done with some extra defenders tonight.

A rare spill from Rangers custodian Zane Coker gifted Kevon Carter an opener in the 21st minute while Jerwin Balthazar doubled Defence Force’s advantage with a volley in the 30th minute after a Jemel Sebro knockdown.

But when Balthazar made it 3-0 with a brilliant half volley in the 43rd minute, one smelt serious trouble ahead.

Carter got Army’s fourth in first half stoppage time after being sent clear by Devorn Jorsling and Rangers were in disarray. Brizan, unfortunately, had no authority to stop the match.

Carter completed his hattrick, despite hitting a penalty off an upright, while Jorsling notched two items from close range and substitute Richard Roy, who responded to a light drizzle by donning black gloves, completed the score summary.

Defence Force made a statement tonight. But the better part of it was written in the first half; the rest was enough to make a non-partisan wince.

Police grab another 2-0 win over T&TEC.

Police FC for a second time this season snatched maximum points against T&TEC with a 2-0 win on Friday night in Round Two Match Day One of the Digicel Pro League.

Second half goals by Jameel Perry and Anton Hutchinson saw T&TEC suffer the same score-line conceded in Round One Match Day One against the Lawmen back in September.

The Richard Hood-coached Police, now with an improved 9 points, remained fifth position on the standings and behind fourth positioned DIRECTV W Connection by a lesser goals difference.

Connection will take on sixth positioned Central FC on Saturday from 6pm at the Ato Boldon Stadium followed third positioned North East Stars against second positioned Caledonia AIA from 8pm.

Leaders Defence Force crush depleted Rangers 8-0.

Defence Force on Friday night registered a biggest 2012-2013 Digicel Pro League win as St. Ann's Rangers conceded the worst defeat.

The Soldiers extended its lead at the top of the standings in style with an 8-0 finish, bettering Caledonia AIA's 6-0 and W Connection's 7-0 wins respectively over T&TEC in round one.

Defence Force (19 points) stretched a six-point gap ahead of second positioned Caledonia (13 points) thanks to a hattrick by Kevon Carter, a pair each from Jerwyn Balthazar and Devorn Jorsling, and one from substitute Richard Roy.

It was a clear backlash suffered by Rangers after losing defenders Elijah Belgrave and Christon Thomas to Police FC this week during the December/January transfer window and striker Hector Sam to Central FC.

Cameron Roget, my negro, if you are reading this post listen to me dude, get out of that fake ass pro league before it kills your game. I watched highlights of you playing for this same dead beat Rangers team against this same Defence Force team a few months ago and I can honestly tell you my brother you looked lost, clueless, not once did I see you touch the ball with any purpose and conviction. It seemed to me that the coaching staff has no clue, no strategy, about how to optimize your abilities. Leave now my brother before the Rangers assassinate your entire game. I know you are a talented young player but if you are not scoring any goals or causing chaos, being a nightmare for defenses, you are not impressing anyone, you won't make it to the senior team if that is your goal. Save your game, dude, Rangers is not the team for you. I don't think it is the team for anyone but they are in this fake ass pro league so they need bodies, you are wasting your time and talent. Cameron, wake up.

Deese, the issue is not the league. The immediate issue is Rangers. Maybe they should not be in the pro-league. They should be with JP and WASA. But you maybe right. He should leave Rangers if they pulling stones. It seems like their players get caught between Christmas and an early upcoming Carnival. It seems that their minds not on the field.

Deeks, not to mention a lame duck Rangers coaching staff and administration. Not to mention the fact that Skeene lied to the people when he said that the league would be bigger and better this year, again. Not to mention that there is no uptempo football being played by any team in the so called professional league to even talk about much less cheer about, which would directly relate to the lack of interest in the league. They are all tied together to result in players getting lost and buried in the football cemetery that is TnT football, teams not being able to support themselves, lack of sponsors anywhere inside or outside the country, not to mention a commissioner who has no clue how to move the league forward, he is as lame as the league itself, not to mention the inability or the desire of anybody in TnT with the vision and a comprehensive plan to do any better. When you add all of it up you get the tt pro cemetery. A lot of talented players are being lost time and time again with no end in sight. Very sad indeed.
