njured Powell out of world 100m

By Luke Phillips (AFP) – 2 hours ago

DAEGU, South Korea — Asafa Powell, the fastest man in the world this season over 100m and defending champion Usain Bolt's biggest rival, will miss the event at the world championships, his agent confirmed on Thursday.

The 28-year-old Jamaican has failed to recover from a niggling groin injury that also saw him skip the London Diamond League meet earlier this month, Paul Doyle told AFP.

"He's out of the 100m but he hopes to be back for the 4x100m relay," which will be raced on the final day of competition on September 4, Doyle said.

The men's 100m kicks off on the opening day of the Daegu worlds, with the final being run on Sunday night.

"He's still suffering groin pains from the Budapest meet (in July). He pulled out of the London meet (August 5-6) and has not recovered suffienctly to take part in the 100m," Doyle said.

SMH. Powell said he might still run the relay.
So if he's healthy enough to run the relay, why not the 100.
Something wrong with the man and individual championships - serious mental block

The 4 x 100m relay is on the last day of Champs so Powell is hoping he’ll be fully fit by then.
The 100m rounds & finals is this weekend so he does not want to risk running unless he is fully fit especially seeing the stiff competition he’ll be up against!

Powell will just have to look for that individual title he craves at the Olympics next year. If he fails to get it then, I think he would have lost his best chance for a major individual title unless he can maintain his 2011 world class 100m form into the World Champs in 2013.

Maybe he needs a bush bath, the man real bad lucky with those injuries for so, they always come at the worst possible time! :(

I was real looking forward to Bolt against Powell but hopefully Blake or our Richard could fill those shoes!  ;)

If you have a groin injury, coming out of blocks hurt, anchor leg won't.

Yea!
We still have to put JA down for the gold in the 100m flat & 4 x 100m relay with or without Asafa I think it makes little difference!

Only got one of the medallists correct for the men's 100m final but did not get his position correct, i.e. Yolan Blake.

Got the winning 3 correct for the women's 100m final! Got KAB's position correct but had Jeter & VCB in the wrong positions!  :beermug:

Got the 1st & 2nd places correct in the men's 400m final with Kirani James picking up Grenada's very 1st World Champs gold medal.  :beermug:

Got two of the correct medallists in the women's 400m final Felix & Montsho but not their correct positions.

Got just one of the medallists correct for the 110mH final, Liu Xang but not his correct position! It would have been two if Robles wasn't disqualified.

Only an expert like Ato could confidently predict such a thing but the games is not over yet!
We still have a chance to medal in both the male & female 4 x 100m relays so let’s not give up hope for at least 3 medals until the relays are over!

Gawd On Pitch, you wish for the men`s 110mH will hopefully soon come true....

DAVIS Courtney Wayne: USA to TRI

Eligible for performance - 04.08.11; Eligibility 1.1(a), (b) or (f) - 04.08.11

We have something to look forward to for London and beyond.

He go be running for the TnT in London and probably won't make it to the finals and then he'll be running for the US down in Brazil in 2016 where he'll be a contender...all things being equal.  It's actually Wayne Courtney Davis Jr.
Trini to de bone; Pointman to de bone.
