SPRINTS - Jamaica and USA lead the Countries Rankings
December 30, 2011

Jamaican men and US women lead the special 2011 Countries Rankings in which All-Athletics.com evaluates the sprint events (100+200+400m).

On the men's side Jamaica is leading both the 100 and 200m and despite they are fifth in the 400m the Caribean country takes the first position in the combined sprint rankings.

Behind the USA in second, there is no change in the 3rd, 4th and 5th places compared to last year (Great Britain, France, Trinidad & Tobago respectively).

Brazilian sprinters had a good year and they are in 7th position. Canada made the Top-10 as well.

A big progression for the Netherlands, they are in 12th place, mainly because most sprinters from the Netherlands Antilles now represent the European country.

No change in the first two spots compared to 2010 on the women's side: the USA kept its leading role with Jamaica in the runner-up position, though the 100 m is led by Jamaica.

Quite an improvement from Ukraine which is now in 3rd, after being 8th last year, thus last year's 'bronze medallist' Russia was pushed down to 4th.

British sprinter ladies improved to 5th while Nigeria kept its 6th place.

Brazil improved to 7th place (11th in 2010) and another South American country, Colombia has also made the Top-12.

The Bahamas fell back from 4th last year to 10th this year.

Despite our men having a relatively bad year last year we were still ranked amongst the top 5 Sprint countries in the World!!

Let’s hope this year we can somehow move into the top 3!!

And our Women are now in the top 10 in the World so congrats to them!!

Let’s hope our women can win both individual and relay medals in the sprints at the Summer Olympics later this year!!
