Richard, Bledman, Burns and Callander might have a belated Olympic gold coming their way.

I've seen this question asked, and I don't take it for granted that people don't understand how they can test for something 8 years later.

The conspiracy theorists will surface too - that happens when you don't want to face reality - or admit the obvious.

The machine that tests isn't an all-knowing and all-seeing wizard. It knows what it's told to look for.
The good thing about keeping samples (which are frozen and therefore don't degrade) is that you can go back 8 years and find something which you didn't know was being used back then.
London Olympics will have more positives as well, because four years later, that machine will be told to look for things it wasn't told to look for in 2012.

Interesting....

I am hearing that the substance detected as illegal now was not yet on the illegal list in 2008.

Athletics - Men's 4X100M - Victory Ceremony - Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/v/i-uaH7sAhfM" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="bbc_link bbc_flash_disabled new_win">https://www.youtube.com/v/i-uaH7sAhfM</a>

If true the Jamaican athlete involved can be expected to fight legally against any ban and medal lost and will have a strong case not to be banned for a substance that was not listed by WADA as illegal at that time.

...things it wasn't told to look for in 2012... or couldn't then find.  If Lance Armstrong could be brought down, no telling who else will be. And please don't tell me, "well everybody is doing it." Either the conspiracy theorists or the laymen who don't understand how science works keep raising objections.

Apparently the banned substance Methylhexanamine is not on the WADA Prohibited List for 2008.

See link: https://wada-main-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/resources/files/WADA_Prohibited_List_2008_EN.pdf

Nesta Carter will have a strong case if he fights against any ban and lost of medal from the 2008 Olympics.

We shall see. As Socapro said, Carter has a VERY strong case. I wouldn't be surprised if he is allowed to keep the medal.

We already have a silver medal from that 2008 Olympics Men's 4x1 relay final in Beijing.

I don't expect Bolt and the Jamaicans to lose their Men's 4x1 relay gold medal as Nesta Carter has a very strong case due to the substance named (Methylhexanamine) not being on WADA's banned list in 2008.

Jamaica's Olympic champion Usain Bolt said the possibility of losing a gold medal is "heartbreaking".

Bolt's 4x100m relay team-mate Nesta Carter is reported to have tested positive for a banned substance during retesting of 454 samples from the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

The result of a 'B' Sample follow-up test is not yet known.

"I'm not too pleased about the situation," said reigning World and Olympic sprint champion Bolt, 29.

Bolt was speaking after he recorded the second-fastest 100m time of the year, winning in 9.88 seconds in Jamaica.

"For years you've worked hard to accumulate gold medals and you work hard to be a champion, so it's heartbreaking, but it's one of those things," Bolt told RJR communications in Kingston.

"If I have to give back my gold medal, I'll have to give it back."

Carter has yet to comment on the case.

He ran Jamaica's first leg in Beijing, followed by Michael Frater, Asafa Powell and Bolt, as they recorded a then-world record time of 37.10 seconds

More myth. The substance was banned as far back as 2006 and reclassified in 2010

If that is the case then I stand corrected and Bolt and the Jamaicans will lose their 2008 relay gold medal.

If Carter does not appeal then we know for sure that he realizes he can't win.
