TC, I saying the same thing too. I remember when this use to be a big games, but since the TF have the biannual WTFG, it has been relegated to minor league. But I really think this games is still important. This and CAC games is where we should send recovering athletes(injuries and lost form) and the promising athletes and juniors to these games. And we should really try to get more female athletes to the games. But I don't know what kind of team they sending. Let we see what big mouth Anil will do to make a difference. Remember Hunt was a.........!

These games are poorly timed. There are people who are starting their winter training on the 3rd, 10th and 17th

No doctor or physio? Like they did not want to send a team or what. No field hockey, no football, no swimming, no cycling, no boxing, no shooting.

Sellier aiming for gold at Pan Am Cycling Championships
By Trevor Burnett - September 18th 2011 4:10 AM

The world’s number 1 Kilo Time Trial cyclist for 2010, Christopher Sellier, has his sights set on precious metals at the Pan American Cycling Championships in October.

The 25-year-old won gold in the 1,000-metre race at the Pan Am Cycling Championships in Aguascalientes, Mexico, last year with the fifth fastest time ever – 1.00:99 minutes

As a junior cyclist Sellier ruled the roost in all events in Trinidad and Tobago during the period 2002-04.

In his elevation to the senior category, Sellier has been dethroned as National Sprint Champion on three occasions.

Last Sunday as the curfew regulations required daylight activities Sellier had to concede the match sprint final to Njisane Phillip as he was fatigued by the heat of the sun.

The Trinidad and Tobago Cycling Federation held the National Cycling Championships at the Arima Velodrome on Sunday, September 4.

In the Flying 200 metres Phillip broke the national record with a time of 10.720 seconds, followed by Sellier in 11.223, Azikwe Kellar 11.366, Haseem McLean 11.444 and Kerron Bramble 12.229.

The Pan American Cycling Championships 2011 will be held in Guadalajara, Mexico, between October 21 and 30.

Sellier is expected to join Phillip and other senior national cyclists to participate in the World Cup Cycling Championships in Kazakhstan in November.

The World Cup Cycling Championships are important for cyclists to gain qualifying points in preparation for the London Olympics in July next year.

Trinidad and Tobago will be represented by 78 athletes at the October 14-30 Pan American Games, in Guadalajara, Mexico.

At the last edition of the Pan American Games, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2007, T&T earned four medals. Two of the medallists—Emile Abraham (silver) and Cleopatra Borel (bronze)—will bid to return to the podium.

Borel has been in fine form for the past two seasons, and will have a good shot at gold in the women's shot put. She is the reigning Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games champion, and also earned silver at the Commonwealth Games, in Delhi, India, last year.

Another Commonwealth Games silver medallist, triple jumper Ayanna Alexander, is also on the T&T team for Guadalajara.

Darrel Brown, the 2003 World Championship 100 metres silver medallist, is making a comeback this season, and will have the opportunity to prove that he's back in the Pan American Games men's 100 metres dash. Both Brown and Olympic Games sprint relay silver medallist Emmanuel Callender will be medal contenders in Guadalajara.

Shooter Roger Daniel, who earned silver and bronze at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, will bid for precious metal at the 2011 Pan American Games.

Also expected to challenge for medals in Guadalajara will be cycling sensation Njisane Phillip, the men's hockey team, sailor Andrew Lewis and shooter Robert Auerbach.

The swimmers were told that there was one qualifying time by the Association, and another by the TTOC, who governs the selection criteria. Apparently they sent the criteria to our association, who claimed to have never seen it. Somewhere someone phacked up and now we have no swimming representation at Pan Am, due to George's car accident as well.
Success will never take you by surprise.

That's unbelievable! Incompetence by our administrators seem to be rife in all sports, yet these people always remain in place and are never held accountable/responsible!!

P.S.
I notice Christopher Sellier is not listed as one of the cyclists going, is he now injured?  :-\

Romany expects good Pan Am

Romany expects good Pan Am
Sunday, October 9 2011

Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee (TTOC) vice-president, Ian Hypolite revealed that everything has been going according to plan for the TT team at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.

After the Delegation Registration Meeting on Thursday, Hypolite declared that TT’s full contingent of athletes (78), medical team and officials were already registered. Altogether, the TT team consists of 125 persons.

TTOC president, Michael Romany admitted that much preparation has gone into this year’s Pan Am Games. Romany is expecting an overall great performance from the athletes in their varied sporting disciplines.

“A lot of hard work has gone into preparing for these games which are always very important for us given the fact that it takes place the year before the Olympic Games,” stated Romany.

He acknowledged the Ministry of Sport for their dedication toward financially assisting the TTOC squad. Romany was grateful for the support and hailed the Minister of Sport for their major sponsorship.

“The Minister and Ministry have honoured their commitment to assist the TTOC with travel to Guadalajara. These are tough times in terms of the global and local economy. The Pan Am Games is an important multi-sport event for the TTOC and the country. We (TTOC) appreciate the Minister’s and the Ministry’s support. We have worked closely with them in a collective effort to ensure that the travel logistics are in place.”

He continued, “The permanent secretary has been very fair and open with us in addressing challenges including our Adidas sponsored outfits. No one should underestimate or under-value the team effort needed to take a team to the Pan Am or any games for that matter.”

CBC offering extensive coverage of 2011 Pan Am Games
CBC Sports (Posted: Sep 29, 2011 6:55 PM ET)

The CBC announced on Thursday it is offering a multi-platform broadcasting package for the 16th Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Over 300 Canadian amateur athletes will be showcasing their talent and competing against some of the world's best, with CBC's coverage starting with the opening ceremonies on Oct. 14, 2011, at 8 p.m. ET live on CBCsports.ca and ending with the closing ceremony on Oct. 30 (8 p.m. ET, live on CBCSports.ca).

In total, CBC-TV, Radio Canada and CBCsports.ca will combine for over 50 hours of programming, with CBCsports.ca displaying 38 hours of coverage. Gemini Award-winning broadcaster Scott Russell will be hosting both the daily and weekly highlights shows.

"The 2011 Pan American Games offer another opportunity for Canadian amateur athletes to shine on the international stage," Jeffrey Orridge, CBC's executive director of sports properties, said in a release. "We continue our tradition of raising the profile of not just amateur athletics in this country but also sharing the stories of these talented individuals."

One of the most notable Canadian athletes participating is shot putter Dylan Armstrong, who won gold at the 2007 Pan Am Games in Rio. Veteran striker Christine Sinclair will lead the 2007 bronze medal-winning Canadian women's soccer team into action as well.

The multi-sport event — 46 sports involving 42 countries — encompasses nations from all over the American continent (North America and South America) and is held every four years in the year precluding the Olympic Games. The 2012 Summer Olympics are scheduled to be hosted by London, England.

"Pan Am countries are among the top 10 leaders in high-profile summer Olympic sports such as athletics, swimming, boxing, soccer, volleyball and baseball," said Ian Troop, CEO of Toronto's Pan Am Games Organizing Committee in 2015 (TO2015). "Coverage of the 2011 Guadalajara Games will showcase the athletic stars of today as well those up-and-coming performers we hope to see in Toronto in less than four years."

Mexico will be hosting its third Pan Am Games (1955, 1975) and is the first nation to do so.

Toronto will host the Pan Am Games in 2015.

Ready or not, curtain coming up for Pan Am Games
By:STEPHEN WADE | 10/13/11 4:07 AM
AP Sports Writer

The curtain is coming up at the Pan American Games amid a sprint to finish a long-delayed track and field stadium and with the streets of Guadalajara patrolled by an estimated 10,000 police and military personnel in drug-torn Mexico.

And once the games begin, they will be missing many top stars, including Olympic sprint champion Usain Bolt.

The organization of the quadrennial event, which will draw 6,000 athletes from 42 nations in the Americas, is sure to come under intense scrutiny as Mexico plays host to its first major event since the 1986 World Cup — and first big multi-sport competition since the 1968 Mexico City Olympics.

Organizers have openly acknowledged that poor planning and political infighting have caused numerous delays in getting venues ready for Friday's opening ceremony.

Hanging over everything else is the specter of drug violence, which has been blamed for the deaths of at least 35,000 people — some estimates say 40,000 — since President Felipe Calderon launched his crackdown on organized crime in late 2006.

Guadalajara and the state of Jalisco have been less affected than many cities in the north of the country, closer to the border with the United States. The last headline-grabbing incidents in Guadalajara took place in February when grenade attacks at the entrance of a nightclub killed six people.

"We've spent four years getting ready for this celebration, and we have personnel capable so that it will be this way," said Luis Carlos Najera, secretary of Public Security for the state of Jalisco. "Without doubt, it will be a stern test. But we are ready."

Other elements of the preparations are being questioned.

Last week at the opening of the athletes' village, which faced delays and a legal battle over its environmental impact, one of Latin America's most powerful sports officials acknowledged organizational failings.

"I haven't said this in a long time, but in order to organize the best games in history we would have to top Brazil," said Mario Vazquez Rana, president of the Pan American Sports Organization, referring to the 2007 Games in Rio de Janeiro. "In terms of organization, we have not done that. We made many errors."

Although last-minute work remains on several venues, most attention is focused on the 8,500-seat track and field stadium. Lane markers were only put down a few days ago, and the IAAF certified the track earlier in the week. That means the IAAF can ratify any records set when track competition opens Oct. 23.

Problems remain at the stadium. Workers moved frantically under heavy rain Wednesday trying to finish off work on access ramps, dressing rooms and exterior lighting with the muddy venue littered with machinery.

The heavy rain, a fallout from Hurricane Jova which struck Mexico's Pacific coast, threatened to affect Friday's opening ceremony.

"We will continue working, and the stadium will be finished," organizing committee director Carlos Andrade Garin said. "The rain has slowed us down a bit, but it won't stop us."

The $28 million venue is a drastically scaled down version of an eye-catching original plan to build a 15,000-capacity stadium overlooking one of Guadalajara's natural beauty spots, the Huentitan Canyon.

"You know very well that we had a lot of problems with the organizing committee," Vazquez Rana said. "Five or six months ago we began to see light at the end of the tunnel. ... A year ago it did not seem the games would take place in Guadalajara."

Despite disputes and delays, the games should produce a feel-good factor among Mexicans weary of the daily news about drug-related killings. It also should give three weeks worth of publicity to Guadalajara. Mexico's second city is located 350 miles northwest of Mexico City, and is best known as the home of tequila and mariachi.

"Right now, the energy and enthusiasm being generated by the Pan American Games has created a beautiful atmosphere," said Lorena Ochoa, the former No. 1-ranked female golfer who grew up in Guadalajara and is working as a games ambassador. "Everyone has their arms wide open."

The United States will have the largest delegation with 627 athletes, followed by Brazil with more than 500. The United States, the traditional power, is sending 82 Olympians, 40 of whom who are Olympic medalists. The most decorated are gymnast Shawn Johnson and shooter Kim Rhode with four medals apiece.

Those sports powers traditionally use the games to test new athletes, while smaller nations compete aggressively for medals they are unlikely to win at next year's London Olympics. The games offer direct qualification in a dozen sports to next year's Olympics.

The Netherlands Antilles will have 11 athletes competing under the flag of the Pan American Sports Organization because the International Olympic Committee no longer recognizes it as an independent country. Next year, athletes from the islands located off the northeast coast of South America will compete under the IOC flag in London.

The Pan Am Games are also about who's missing, like world-record holder Bolt. After false-starting in the 100-meter final and winning the 200 at the world championships in Daegu, South Korea, the Jamaican will not be running in Guadalajara.

Brazilian soccer player Neymar, often called the world's best young player, is also skipping the event. The same for American swim star Michael Phelps.

One of the biggest names on the track will be Cuban hurdler Dayron Robles, the defending Olympic champion and 110-meter world-record holder. World champion pole vaulter Fabiana Murer of Brazil will also get attention, as will swimmers Cesar Cielo of Brazil and Albert Subirats of Venezuela.

Mexico's attention will be focused on Paola Espinosa, who won a diving bronze medal three years ago at the Beijing Olympics.

From the article:

The Mexican delegation is larger than the US delegation ... the number I saw was 644. Not surprising as host nation.

I missed our contingent at the opening ceremony ... when I tuned in Venezuela was on centerstage ... go figure :)

I see TT won a silver in the PanAm games. I want to believe it is in pistol shooting. Maybe Roger Daniel.
