Winston Hackett
« on: September 30, 2011, 05:20:13 AM »
I received this e-mail yesterday:

Winston "Winty" Hackett passed away in Canada yesterday (Wednesday, Sept 28th) allegedly of a brain tumor. His late brothers were Mikey (Police) and Gerry (Defence Force).

Winty played for Point Fortin College , Civic Centre, and had  a brief spell with the National team before migration. He was also a starter with the National Youth team which went to Canada around '74 '75.  He was nicknamed "Physee/Fizee".

Sad news indeed. RIP general.

Winty was a genuine talent that T&T never really got the best of. He was arguably T&T best player at the CONCACAF youth tournament back in 1974 (I believe). He moved to Canada & out of sight, out of mind, meant he was never part of T&T senior football. Winty had an amazing ability to finish in the box, dear I say it, very much like Hugo Sanchez. Volley, Sissors what ever he will finish it. Its a pity he never got discovered, or the right guidance.
Lucky enough to have played with all three brothers (on different teams).

That s real sad, he was the uncle of my cousins and i grew up with his brother Mikey. I occasionally see  his other brother Barry. R.I.P Winty and condolences to the family in Canada.
